Having previously spotted 'something glinting' in the reeds, the camera presents a shot of a 'device' creating machine-made ripples and a thin blue beam, which she's reaching-for.
I could only conclude that the woods are a landing-site of some sort and the time-loop is a security-shield that stopped functioning correctly. Jen and Dan just happened to be on-hand, dealing with a relationship that isn't functioning correctly.
