I'm Christian and this was perfect. The leader was not a Christian at all. He's a false prophet more akin to the antichrist ok. He never believed in any of it. He believes in the cordyceps. He uses the Bible and faith to control the starving and desperate people. The leader's flock don't know that they're eating the dead.
There is nothing wrong with the showrunners choice to use Christianity here. The leader was a fake and phony. People complaining are way off the mark.
