Writing around social issues comes off as amateur
6 March 2022
All of a sudden Linc doesn't know how to talk to patients out of context? The writing here seemed desperate to address some random social issue without having a character that is innately ignorant to this topic. Kind of like when Amelia was "randomly racist" a few years ago just for the script to have an excuse to say "check your privilege." Here's the thing - these issues are important, deserve to be addressed in a way that is genuine and well prepared by the show's writing team. When they're thrown into the script in a way that is super "90's after show special" tacky and random, it weakens the message. I know Shonda has access to better writers than this, and has the time to develop a story arc that makes these issues make sense in the context that she is trying to present them. Please, don't just check boxes.
