An extremely long, unworthy watch even with Shane in the lead! [+34%]

The only reason I'm giving it an extra half star is because of Rex Vijayan's score. The storyline is a convoluted mess with too many inconsequential characters. A couple of new talents (in the cast) seem fine, but the rest either awkwardly ham it up or are terrible. The writing, for a movie where the location is a character of its own, lacks finesse. The dialogues are often ridiculously condescending. Mattanchery & Fort Kochi looked much better in Soubin Shahir's Parava, both from storyline and aesthetic standpoints. Even stupendous actors like Shane and Joju put up half-hearted efforts. Himika Bose looks pretty, but like 99% of the cast, plays an inconsequential character who shows up intermittently. What was Soubin, Alencier, Captain Raju, and Atul Kulkarni doing in this movie? At 2 hours and 55 minutes, Valiyaperunnal is a total borefest.
