Grand Theft Mort-o
9 December 2019
I'm starting to wonder whether individual episode reviews for "Rick And Morty" might actually be a mistake, as I'm going to end up writing the same stuff over and over again, generally about how spectacularly written it is.

Foiled in their attempt to raid an ancient alien tomb, Rick sets his vindictive sights on professional heist artist Miles Knightly (Justin Theroux). Rick constructs a robot to figure out Knightly's plan and to add one more level of deception to it, unfortunately, the now sentient machine decided that he needs to double-cross Rick and begins the ultimate heist, to steal the Earth.

I liked this one, the plot is very clever and the script is very funny. For once, the show has a specific target - specifically team heist movies like the "Ocean's" films and how stupid Rick and by extension the writers find them. The show builds twist on twist on twist until the resolution including the glorious idea of Rick's squad doing things entirely at random, because any sort of scheme would be out thought by the machine.

Less successful was Elon Musk's cameo, I thought the show ground to a halt during that scene, for an appearance that appears to be based only on the weak pun - and, to own up to my own bias, I find the man himself pretty distasteful.
