A Very Good Finale to a Somewhat "Filler" Season
23 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
More often than not, I feel like the Flash post-Season 1 gets a bad rap. Yes, there are flaws, but overall I thought Seasons 2 and 3 were very good, with Season 2 being my favorite. However, even though I have liked Season 4 a lot, there was a lot to be desired. The writing was consistent, but not up to par, and DeVoe and Marlize got tiring after a while. However, I am happy to say that this Season Finale has made up for and resolved a lot of my issues with this Season, despite it being more small-scale than normal. Seeing Ralph come back definitely put a smile on my face, Hartley Sawyer was too good to just be in this Season alone, and I'm glad he'll be coming back for the next one. DeVoe was beaten in a way that didn't undermine his intelligence, and although things dragged on a bit after his defeat with the satellite falling, it did keep the stakes high and let us know that he wouldn't go out without a back up plan. Harry getting himself back, but not his intelligence, is interesting, but I'm very worried that Tom Cavanagh is actually leaving the show, because that would be a tragic loss. We finally find out who the mystery girl is, Nora Allen, Barry and Iris's daughter from the future, and her last lines set up the story for next Season. Which is why it feels like this entire Season was just filler to get to the real follow up to Season 3/Flashpoint. However, I am glad that story elements from this Season (speed force equation, Nora) will carry on to the next one. All in all, this was a much better Season Finale than last year's, and hopefully the story for the next Season this fall will be more fine-tuned and have the wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey stuff that we loved from the first three. This Season was fun, but I'm ready to get back to the core of this show. Now please, for the love of god, bring back Julian.
