"Ring Of Fire" (1961) starring David Janssen and Frank Gorshin is unusual and worthwhile in at least three ways!
See it!
RING OF FIRE (1961) starring David Jannsen and Frank Gorshin..is an interesting, cheaply made feature movie (looks like and Indy movie the studio which released it bought after it was "in the can.")
RING OF FIRE (1961) depicts the travails of a kidnapped Oregon USA lumber country small Oregon town local police sergeant (Jannsen) who accepts minor sex-type favors from an under aged teen girl part of the 3 person group who kidnapped Janson (they kiss, embrace....spend the night but no genital contact, as far as I can tell, unless there is a surprise and unexpectedly raunchy ending....not likely in 1961).
This happens before Janssen is located and rescued by area police hunting for him.....the girl accuses Jannsen of "Statuatory Rape" to muddy the waters re: her guilt in helping wanted-for-murder hoods stop Janssen from arresting the "teens" (who use the vintage 1961 word "Daddy-O," just like West Side Story!).
The whole treatment..stretched out soap-opera style almost painfully....of "Statuatory Rape" is interesting....almost never seen in movies. This is the only "statuatory rape" movies I ever saw, or can think of.
Underaged girls are shown flirting or even caving into older men in movies like "Lolita," etc., but legal retribution and police going after men who get underage female sex favors is almost never treated in the detail shown in "Ring Of Fire."
Also, the movie shows forest and other "out of control" fires (started when bad guy brilliant actor Frank Gorshin drops a lit cigarette in the woods).
Obviously, these fires are intentional and controlled by the movie making people, but the fires take up a lot of time and space at the end of the movie.
Done in 1961 before "special pyrotechnic effects" and computer generated anything....
Soooooooo.....RING OF FIRE (1961) deals with both Statuatory Rape and out of control REAL fires staged for the camera....but very BIG fires........
Also, we get to see great forest scenery in the Oregon logging, Redwood country.....a third good reason to rate the movie high.
