Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett in Light of Day (1987)

In an attempt to jump-start an acting career, Joan starred in Light of Day (1987). The project seemed to have everything needed to succeed - Michael J. Fox starring as her brother at the height of his fame, Gena Rowlands as her mother, written and directed by Paul Schrader, author of Taxi Driver (1976) and Raging Bull (1980), and the title song written specifically for the movie by Bruce Springsteen. Yet the film received mixed reviews and bombed at the box office. The result smashed any hopes Jett may have had to become a movie star, though she has occasionally played guest roles on TV.

    Joan Jett

Joan on shaving her head: I'm bald to the skin. I had been planning it for six months, figuring if I shaved my head on the millennium, I'll sit and contemplate my life, and what it means to be alive during this time, and my hopes for the future, for humanity, for the earth, and just to really be present in that. So that was all attached to this head shaving. When this tour came up, I wanted everyone to know I was not going to change my ritual for this. I get tired of augmenting myself for other things. I didn't want to do that again, so I just figured come hell or high water, I'm shaving my head. So I did, and I love it.
