Exclusive: Ever Anderson, an up-and-coming actress known for roles in Disney+’s Peter Pan & Wendy and Marvel’s Black Widow, has entered into a new strategic partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, sources tell Deadline.
We’re told there’s no official first-look deal here, though the hope at the streaming giant is to build a relationship with the rising star, identifying and developing future projects for her in both film and television.
Anderson, the daughter of director Paul W.S. Anderson and actress Milla Jovovich, is coming off of her role as Wendy Darling in Disney+’s Peter Pan & Wendy, a live-action Peter Pan remake directed for the streamer by decorated filmmaker David Lowery. Released last April, the film had her sharing the screen with Jude Law, Alexander Molony and Yara Shahidi, among others.

Yara Shadidi thought she was going to get to fly all over the place to bring Tinkerball to life in the new movie "Peter Pan & Wendy," streaming now on Disney+. "I thought I was going to be doing some crazy wire work," she tells Popsugar. That was not the case.
"It was the ultimate collaboration between me and the visual effects team," she explains. "If they were to ever release the behind the scenes footage, it'd be me on my tiptoes flying around this studio, pretending to fly."
So when Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson, who play Peter and Wendy, respectively, filmed scenes "with Tinkerbell," they had to stretch their imagination. "We just had a a glowing ball," Molony tells Popsugar.

Peter Pan has seen as many adaptations as anyone, they come around every few decades, and every now and again one sticks with a generation for a lifetime. The 1953 Disney original certainly had that, as too did 1991s Hook, the film that stuck with me and my generation. Since then the only other adaption that has stuck was the 2003 adaption. The 2003 adaption was another good entry into the legend of Peter Pan, and like the films before, it hooked onto a generation that still love that film today. When a Peter Pan adaptation is done even half right, it finds itself stuck to a generation, it is perhaps a testament to the story J.M. Barrie created that so many different adaptions and takes can connect to so many,...

Make no mistake, "Peter Pan and Wendy" director David Lowery definitely has an affinity for the horror genre, but he wanted to make sure that the new Disney+ children adventure wasn't as dark as it looked at first glance. Lowery's melancholy supernatural drama "A Ghost Story" starring Casey Affleck wearing a bed sheet is hauntingly beautiful, and his take on the 14th-century Arthurian adventure "The Green Knight" is steeped in some fairly gruesome imagery. The entire tale does center around a beheading, after all.
Of course, the latest adaptation of the classic children's story, starring Jude Law as Captain Hook and Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, is still a fairly lighthearted adventure. But that doesn't mean that Lowery didn't leave a few, shall we say, revolting details in the background for eagle-eyed viewers to catch. Disney continues its streak of live-action adaptations of its most popular animated characters with Peter Pan and Wendy. We have already got Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Lion King, Maleficent and many more. Some of them were hits, and some of them weren’t. With more on their release slate and even more in development, it seems that it will do Disney good if they slow down. Pinocchio was a failure. Aladdin and Mulan were also harsh setbacks. Considering that these are all beloved characters that we would love to see on the big screen, Disney needs to be more careful before doing so and not spoil it for us. Peter Pan and Wendy is another not-so-convincing live-action take on the popular children’s character. Other than Jude Law’s rendition of Captain Hook, which is brilliant, the other characters fail to make an impression, especially Alexander Molony’s Peter Pan.

This post contains spoilers for "Peter Pan & Wendy."
As most children, and people who were once children, know, the cornerstone of the world of Peter Pan lies in his connection to Neverland. And though that world can be a beautiful place, there are some villains within it too — namely Peter's infamous rival, Captain Hook. In David Lowery's new Disney live-action adaptation, "Peter Pan & Wendy," viewers get the full story on what ultimately led to their feud, something that audiences don't see in the original 1953 film.
In the original film, all the audience is told is that the two characters are enemies, but we're not given any other backstory. Interestingly enough, it turns out these two are actually, more than anything, frenemies in Lowery's adaptation. Allow me to explain.
The new movie takes us back to Hook's childhood days, when he lived in Neverland as a boy named James.

As a retelling of both J.M. Barrie’s novel and Disney’s 1953 animated classic, Disney+‘s Peter Pan & Wendy is a mixed bag. But as a retelling via director David Lowery, it’s totally on-brand.
The first half-hour of the 106-minute movie (streaming now on Disney+) suggests a beat-for-beat retread (à la Jon Favreau’s The Lion King), but Lowery’s quirky preferences permit a more offbeat take. And once Peter, Wendy et al reach Neverland, the story takes on new life.

As written by J. M. Barrie in his original 1904 play, “Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up,” the century-old name Peter Pan has always been synonymous with a severe case of arrested development. More expressly, the fear of adulthood, the immature reluctance towards embracing the responsibilities and pains of being a grown-up, unable to gauge the earned rewards of such hardships.
So what could a 21st-century version of such arrested development look like? One that has something to say to today’s grown-ups both mesmerized and puzzled by a fiery younger generation vastly different than them, and today’s kids, being raised by an unprecedented sense of individuality? With “Peter Pan & Wendy,” soulful auteur David Lowery tries to find an answer with mixed results that’s fascinating and refreshing in parts and somewhat wearisome on the whole.

Peter Pan & Wendy takes up again the most classic Disney in, precisely, its anniversary, with one of its most iconic stories.
This time with the appeal of giving us Jude Law as Captain Hook.
Peter Pan & Wendy is a film directed by David Lowery starring Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson.

Based on Scottish novelist J.M. Barrie’s 1904 play, subsequent self-penned 1911 novelization, and Disney’s classic 1953 animated film, Peter Pan & Wendy finds indie-auteur David Lowery confidently back in big-studio mode. Lowery delivers an exquisitely balanced mix of visual spectacle and grounded, intimate moments, Buttressed by uniformly strong, naturalistic performances from a talented cast, Peter Pan & Wendy should be considered a worthy, worthwhile addition to any streaming diet, especially family-oriented ones. Like practically every iteration with the exception of Steven Spielberg’s justly maligned reimagining (Hook), Peter Pan & Wendy centers on the title characters, Peter Pan (Alexander Molony), the boy who refused to grow up, and Wendy Darling (Ever Anderson), a teen facing major changes who,...

It looks like kids’ movies are dominating the box office right now. Mind you, what looks to be the first billion-dollar blockbuster is based on a decades-old video game. But what about the classic fairy tales, you may ask? Not to worry, although it’s fairly young at a spry 121 years, as opposed to the centuries-old Grimm Brothers stories and assorted myths and legends. And it’s also the 70th anniversary of the definitive animated adaptation from the master artists at the “mouse house”. Ugh, you may be thinking, not another live-action retread of a superb cartoon ala the recent Pinocchio (not the Oscar-winner) or the dreary Dumbo. Well, you’re not really correct as this tale began (after its literary roots) on the stage and has been played by flesh-and-blood actors in versions going back to the silent movie days. And so, here’s another version, this time sharing...

There is something fitting about the fact that a charming adventure story about a boy that never grows up who leads a cadre of children wishing to remain similarly youthful and carefree forever gets remade in one form or another every decade or so. It speaks to the fact that the desire to avoid adulthood and remain unmoored and childlike forever remains as strong as ever, if not stronger. At the same time, it reveals our seeming inability to understand fully why the story is so resonant. Every time the story is told, you can feel the creator struggling with the material, wrestling with its meaning, imparting in the story their own beliefs and fears.
Director David Lowery, who has spent the last decade building an aesthetically and thematically similar but tonally diverse oeuvre, is a perfect modern match for this material. His works have explored heartache and loneliness and...

With “Peter Pan and Wendy,” Disney sets out to bring the boy who refused to grow up into the 21st century — not literally, like those taxing live-action/cartoon hybrids, where computer-generated Smurfs get loose in Manhattan or Tom and Jerry wreak havoc in a high-end hotel. The studio’s latest remake is still set in Edwardian England, the way both J.M. Barrie’s play and the animated feature it inspired were. But the sensibility is very much of the moment, as director David Lowery (who did an admirable job of updating “Pete’s Dragon” for Disney) refreshes the 1953 classic according to contemporary priorities.
In conception and casting both, the new movie presents a diverse and empowered ensemble. The vintage toon’s shameful Native American stereotypes have been corrected. Peter Pan & Wendy, David Lowery’s humanizing interpretation of J.M. Barrie’s existential classic about the boy who refuses to grow up, speaks more to the inner child of jaded adults than it does to actual kids. This version of the fairytale grounds the fundamental wistfulness of the original tale with empathetic backstories and takes care to remedy the original’s overt racism and latent sexism.
Despite criticisms lodged at Lowery (The Green Knight) in the months leading up to this film’s release on Disney+, Peter Pan & Wendy keeps much intact. Lowery and his co-writer Toby Halbrooks have a firm grasp on the enduring qualities of Barrie’s story, which, as they correctly suggest throughout the film, has nothing to do with whether or not the gang of Lost Boys includes girls. The question you may be asking is ‘do we really need yet another take on Peter Pan? Ever since J.M. Barrie published his book “Peter And Wendy” in 1911 there have been countless film, TV, and stage versions of one stripe or another, starting with silents, and of course NBC’s live musical in the 50’s with Mary Martin, and later versions with Sandy Duncan, Cathy Rigby, and just a few years ago another NBC live attempt at it with Allison Williams. Of course there have been big screen spins, neither quite magical, like Joe Wright’s messy 2015 Pan and Spielberg’s overblown Hook with Robin Williams and Julia Roberts. Up to this moment even Broadway has a new Tony contender in the farcical take, Peter Pan Goes Wrong. But for me the one version that resonates the most, to this day, is the Disney 1953 animated feature classic.

In the summer of 2016, writer/director David Lowery pulled off what feels like a magic trick in retrospect: he made a Disney remake that was actually quite good. His take on "Pete's Dragon" may not have set the box office aflame, but his tender approach to a story about an orphaned boy in the forest with only a mammoth dragon for a friend resulted in a low-stakes but wonderful family adventure. Of course, the major reason why "Pete's Dragon" worked so well as a remake is that it eschewed almost everything aside from the aforementioned logline that's present in the 1977 original, from big musical numbers to con-artist bad guys. And "Pete's Dragon" was able to eschew those aspects because while the original has some fans, it's by no means one of Disney's biggest titles.
The same cannot be said for "Peter Pan & Wendy," Lowery's latest Disney remake, this time...

For those that only know director David Lowery from his mystical Arthurian epic "The Green Knight" starring Dev Patel, it may seem a little strange to see his name attached to another retelling of the classic animated film "Peter Pan." But before the visionary filmmaker made the subdued haunter "A Ghost Story" and Robert Redford's "The Old Man and the Gun," Lowery also remade the 1977 children's fantasy musical "Pete's Dragon" for Disney. Returning to the House of Mouse, Lowery is all aboard for a new take on Neverland with "Peter Pan & Wendy" starring Jude Law in a great bit of casting as Captain Hook.

David Lowery's new film "Peter Pan & Wendy" will be the director's second remake of a Disney animated feature and his seventh feature overall. Lowery previously helmed the remake of "Pete's Dragon," where he turned a whimsical fantasy film into an earthier tale of a boy raised in the woods by a dragon slowly re-assimilating into human society. The dragon was amusing in Lowery's movie, but the director seemed far more interested in the inter-human relationships. Finding real human experiences inside of an outlandish, fantastical world may be said to be a common theme in Lowery's work.
This was also an element of his excellent and contemplative film "A Ghost Story," wherein a bedsheet-style ghost slowly reveals what caused it to start haunting in the first place. It was most certainly the central theme of his most recent film, "The Green Knight," an adaptation of the medieval poem about...

One can almost set their watch to film adaptations of J.M. Barrie's celebrated 1904 play "Peter and Wendy."
The story of the flying elf boy from Neverland and his friendship with a human girl from Earth was such a massive success and left such a strong cultural impact, that sequels and cross-media adaptations began cropping up only a few years after its debut. Barrie himself would turn the play into a novel in 1911, but that wasn't before he had already written two Peter Pan sequels in 1906 and 1908. The first filmed version of "Peter Pan" would be made by Herbert Brenon in 1924.
Perhaps the best-known adaptation, however, came to cinemas in 1953 when Walt Disney Studios released their animated version directed by Hamilton Luske, Clyde Geronimi, and Wilfred Jackson. The iconography from the Disney "Peter Pan" remains entrenched most firmly in the pop consciousness, and it continues to be one of the...

Shahidi — who stars alongside Alexander Molony’s Peter Pan and Ever Anderson’s Wendy in the flick — told Carlos Bustamante of whether she was on harnesses and ropes flying around a studio or if a lot of it was computer generated: “Well, a lot of the magic happened in Vancouver where I was not. So they had built these incredibly epic and immersive sets in Canada, and then they did quite a bit of travelling for it.”

Barrie's 'Peter Pan' and confessed that he had worries about stepping behind the camera before succumbing to temptation. In a new featurette for the movie, David said: "Peter Pan is one of the crown jewels of the Disney library. The idea of adapting it live-action was very daunting, but ultimately I decided it was too good an opportunity to pass up."Jude Law is starring in the film – which will be released later this month – as antagonist Captain Hook and David praised his "deliciously evil" take on the villainous pirate. The director said: "I love how deliciously evil this Captain Hook is. On Monday, Disney released a new trailer for “Peter Pan & Wendy,” directed by acclaimed “The Green Knight” filmmaker David Lowery and written by Lowery and Toby Halbrooks. The film will debut on Disney+ and bypass theaters entirely.
This new version of Peter Pan serves as a live-action adaptation of the 1953 animated film “Peter Pan,” which in turn, is based on the 1904 play “Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Couldn’t Grow Up,” by J.M. Barrie.
The film’s official synopsis reads as follows:
“Wendy Darling, a young girl afraid to leave her childhood home behind, meets Peter Pan, a boy who refuses to grow up. If you were concerned that the first trailer for David Lowery's Peter Pan & Wendy, the new look at the film should assuage most of those worries, since this is (mostly) a much brighter set of scenes. Take a look…
Lowery, working as usual with co-writer Toby Halbrooks, has adapted Jm Barrie's story (and the 1953 Disney animation) for this new version, which from the looks of this, follows many of the familiar beats of the story, but with Lowery sprinkling his typical magic over it.
Ever Anderson is Wendy here, with Alexander Molony as Peter. Jude Law, meanwhile, is taking on the villain role as Captain Hook, and he certainly looks the part.
Peter Pan & Wendy will arrive on Disney+ on 28 April.

“To grow up might just be the biggest adventure of all,” says Wendy Darling in the upcoming Peter Pan & Wendy. But judging by Disney’s latest trailer, there will be plenty of adventures before that to be had in Neverland.
The Peter Pan & Wendy trailer takes us from London to Neverland while also re-introducing viewers to fan favorite characters like Tinker Bell (Yara Shahidi), the Lost Boys and even Nana, the Darling family dog. And of course there is Peter himself (Alexander Molony), Wendy Darling (Ever Anderson) and one of cinema’s most dastardly pirates, Captain Hook (Jude Law), who will be backed by his first mate Shmee.
Peter Pan & Wendy joins a long list of Disney’s live action remakes of their animated classics. In addition to this retelling of the wonderful 1953 film (itself an adaptation of the J.M. Barrie play-turned-novel), this year will also see...

David Lowery is a square peg who refuses to let Hollywood fit him into a round hole.
In the 10 years since the filmmaker broke out with "Ain't Them Bodies Saints" (the 2013 romantic crime drama that /Film's review describes as "Cormac McCarthy by way of 'The Assassination of Jesse James By the Coward Robert Ford'"), Lowery has gone from helming acclaimed high art indie dramas to earnest Disney films and dream-like fantasy epics. His latest offering, "Peter Pan and Wendy," marks yet another hard pivot for Lowery, bringing him back into the world of live-action Disney remakes -- sorry, re-imaginings, as the House of Mouse insists on calling them -- for a new take on J.M. Barrie's fairy tale that looks to bring something genuinely fresh to the oft-told story, which would be quite the accomplishment in and of itself.

In the last two weeks, Disney has released trailers for both Peter Pan & Wendy and The Little Mermaid, debuting, with Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell and Halle Bailey as Ariel. Both actresses, who co-starred together on Grown-ish, break new ground in playing Disney icons, who have historically been white, and the two friends have been able to share in bringing diversity to the classic stories.
Shahidi told The Hollywood Reporter at Tuesday night’s Los Angeles premiere of Extrapolations, the Apple TV+ drama series in which she also appears, that she’s “so excited to watch Halle onscreen — if there’s anybody that is a princess just in real life, in the world, it’s Halle,” adding that her playing Ariel “made so much sense.”

Disney Plus has released a new trailer for its forthcoming Peter Pan movie.
Peter Pan & Wendy is a forthcoming live-action reimagining of the 1911 Jm Barrie novel and the 1953 animated classic.
It stars Alexander Molony as the mischievous young boy and Ever Anderson as Wendy Darling.
The new trailer – released on Tuesday (28 February) – begins with a distraught Wendy encountering the famous Lost Boys in Neverland.
Fans also get a good look at Black-ish star Yara Shahidi as Tinker Bell, and Jude Law as the villainous role of Captain Hook. The trailer teases action scenes, with plenty of sword fighting and flying.
Viewers, however, are complaining that the trailer looks too dark for a kid’s movie.
“Why is the movie so dark? Where are the colours? It’s Peter Pan, not a funeral,” said one person.
Alongside screenshots of some particularly dark scenes in the film, another added: “David Lowry is a solid director.

“Wendy Moira Angela Darling,” Jude Law growls as Captain Hook in the trailer for Disney’s new movie Peter Pan and Wendy. “Where is Peter Pan?”

Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) plays Tinkerbell, Molly Parker (House of Cardss) is Mrs. Darling, and Alan Tudyk (Resident Alien) plays Mr. Darling. Joshua Pickering (A Discovery of Witches) is John, Jacobi Jupe is Michael, Alyssa Wapanatâhk (Bones of Crows) plays Tiger Lily, and Jim Gaffigan (The Jim Gaffigan Show) stars as Smee.
The teaser trailer confirmed Peter Pan & Wendy will premiere on Disney+ on April 28, 2023.

Another animated Disney classic is getting the live-action remake treatment and this latest adventure seems genuinely worth getting excited about.
“Peter Pan & Wendy,” which will debut on Disney+ on April 28, hails from co-writer/director David Lowery, the filmmaker behind “The Green Knight” and “The Old Man and the Gun,” and looks to interpolate both the 1953 Disney animated classic and the original J.M. Barrie source material. Watch the trailer above.
Originally announced in 2016, around the time Lowery was releasing his “Pete’s Dragon” remake theatrically, “Peter Pan & Wendy” is arguably the most exciting live-action adaptation of a Disney animated project in some time. The impressive visual sweep presented in the trailer (actual locations!) combined with the nifty modernization of some of the characters and settings, and the very committed cast (led by Jude Law as a snarling Captain Hook) make it seem like “Peter Pan & Wendy” will be a cut above,...

The first trailer for David Lowery's "Peter Pan and Wendy" is here, and it looks a hell of a lot more interesting than most live-action Disney remakes we've seen in recent years — not to mention most live-action adaptations of the J.M. Barrie classic.
Instead of going the star-studded, CGI-stuffed remake route that has been hit (see: "The Lion King") or miss (see: "Pinocchio") for Disney in recent years, the trailer for "Peter Pan and Wendy" spotlights a cast of young up-and-coming actors and visuals that look about as naturalistic as a story about a boy who can fly can be expected to. Sure, the fact that the first look at this movie doesn't take us to the uncanny valley might be a low bar, but "Peter Pan and Wendy" also has a great filmmaker going for it in "The Green Knight" and "A Ghost Story" director David Lowery.
