Exclusive: Following his critically acclaimed performance as Mike Von Erich in A24’s The Iron Claw, Stanley Simons has found a new agency to call home as he has signed with Gersh for representation.
Even though the film is filled with plenty of star power from Zac Efron to Jeremy Allen White, Simons holds his own as the youngest Von Erich brother and delivers some of the best moments from the movie. Following the film’s release, agencies from around town have been aggressive in trying to sign Simons with Gersh ultimately winning him over.
He gained attention for his role as Miles, the stoner ice cream store manager in Erin Vassilipoulos’ quirky feature film Superior, which premiered in the US Dramatic Competition at Sundance 2021. Stanley made his feature film debut in 2019 with the release of Peter Lee’s delightful Bronx love story Angelfish, playing alongside the remarkable Princess Nokia and Jimi Stanton.

Princess Nokia has readied a new EP called i love you but this is goodbye. The seven-song project drops March 14th via Arista Records, and ahead of its release, the artist has shared a new song called “complicated.”
As its name suggests, i love you but this is goodbye is a breakup EP. Musically, a press release describes the project as a return to Princess Nokia’s roots — specifically her 2014 debut Metallic Butterfly, which means you can expect more experimental trip-hop from the New York artist.
While the previous single “closure” veers toward pop punk with sweetly sung vocals, “complicated” goes back to Princess Nokia’s classic flow. “Falling apart and I cannot take it/ You make it complicated,” she sighs, over snappy electronic beats. Listen to the track and check out the artwork for i love you but this is goodbye below.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Princess Nokia has offered “closure,” a saccharine new single that appreciates a lost love for what it was — a welcome moment in time.
“You came at the right time and I let you/ You came at the right time, you were meant to,” Princess Nokia sings, reaching for her upper register rather than opting for her usual laid-back flow. Soon after, the song explodes into a fuzzed out, melodic guitar riff as the artist looks back on the relationship, more content than wistful. “I wrote you this album for my closure,” she sings, ready to move on. Listen to Princess Nokia’s “closure” below.
Last year, Princess Nokia shared a handful of singles, “Diva” and “No Effort.” In 2020, she put out the dueling albums Everything Sucks and Everything Is Beautiful, some of the best releases of the year.

Right from the start, In Search of… stood out. I discovered N.E.R.D.’s 2002 debut at a Best Buy on the rim of Houston’s I-10 loop, sitting at the front of the store on a blue kiosk marked 6.99. I was a first-year high school English teacher, struggling to pull together all the things expected of me. There was this unfussy album cover staring at me, with a twenty-something Black guy on a battered-looking couch in a nondescript apartment playing a video game in his house clothes, blankly staring at an off-screen TV,...

Are you from New York, even? Princess Nokia brings the early 2000s flow with her new single “No Effort” — and makes us envious of her puffer jacket-rockin’ crew as she “reclaims the co-opted aesthetic” and “brings it back to Harlem” in the song’s video.
“Look at me, so clean, no effort/Ponytail, ripped jeans, no effort,” she raps in the chorus. “Face clean, gold ring, no effort/Insane, my chain, big pressure.”

It’s been quite a week for Nineties nostalgia. Following Beabadoobee’s throwback video for “Last Day on Earth,” Princess Nokia pays homage to Jennifer Lopez in “It’s Not My Fault.”
The video is a direct nod to Lopez’s 1999 video for “If You Had My Love,” where Mid90s actor Olan Prenatt watches the rapper on surveillance. The new track is an ode to OnlyFans, a subscription platform used by sex workers.
“My video symbolizes my mainstream coming of age, just as it did Jennifer’s,” Nokia said in a statement.

If you grew up in the Nineties, you were blessed with a steady supply of witch’s brew. Between movies like Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, Eve’s Bayou, and The Witches — and in TV shows like Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch — outsider females with supernatural powers were ubiquitous.
But the movie that best defined the era’s seasons of the witch was The Craft. Released in 1996, the cult classic centers on a trio of teens (Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True) who bring the new...

Nearly a quarter-century has gone by since cult horror classic “The Craft” tapped into a pre-Harry Potter fascination with witches, giving teenage audiences a sense of how empowering it might feel for four young women, persecuted by date-rapey d-bags and openly racist prom queens, to invoke a little black magic in their desire to get even. That surprise hit was creaky even by 1996 standards, but its Goth-grunge attitude was hella edgy by comparison with “Clueless” and other clean-scrubbed YA offerings of the time, and one would hope that a Blumhouse follow-up made in the year 2020 might find a way to feel similarly avant-garde.
Instead, “Blumhouse’s The Craft: Legacy” comes across as “The Craft: Lite,” a watered-down, PG-13 reboot in which the outsiders are no longer treated as freaks, and their mission amounts to enlightening Neanderthal classmates and other assorted chauvinists about the risks of underestimating young women. There are so many clichés in the film world. So many of today's films are formulaic. Heck, before there even was a film world there was theater. That Shakespeare guy, even he reworked older stories. For example, Romeo and Juliet. The plot is based on an Italian tale translated into verse as The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet by Arthur Brooke in 1562 and retold in prose in Palace of Pleasure by William Painter in 1567. Othello comes from the Hecatommithi, a collection of tales published in 1565 by Giraldi Cinthio. Cinthio in turn had been influenced by the Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio. Shakespeare's source for Macbeth is the account of Macbeth, King of Scotland, Macduff, and Duncan in Holinshed's Chronicles from 1587, a history of England, Scotland, and Ireland. And so on and so on.

Destiny Frasqueri (better known to her Generation Z fans as Nuyorican rapper Princess Nokia) makes a winning, delicate screen debut in “Angelfish,” a low-key Bronx romance that proves a surprisingly muted vehicle for her outsize performing charisma. As Eva, a hard-up, lovelorn daughter of Puerto Rican immigrants, torn between familial responsibilities and a more creative, romantic life of her own, she’s fresh and unaffected on camera, retaining just enough streetwise edge from her musical persona to skirt floaty ingenue cliché. As an arrival for writer-director Peter Lee, however, “Angelfish” is slightly less persuasive: Its cross-cultural romance between Eva and Brendan (Jimi Stanton), a white high-school dropout from a broken home, feels more invested in place than character, higher on woozy summer-in-the-city atmospherics than it is on clear dramatic stakes.
Clearly made with tenderness, “Angelfish” recalls in its best moments such films as Peter Sollett’s “Raising Victor Vargas” and,...

New York City rapper and singer-songwriter Princess Nokia brings chaos to the pageant world in her new video for “Sugar Honey Iced Tea (S.H.I.T.).”
Although the title recalls Kelis’ swooning love funk from 2003, Nokia’s taunting swagger reveals a different agenda: dunking on her haters. “Sugar honey iced tea/these bitches don’t like me,” spits Nokia over finger snaps, horns and the soaring runs of a gospel choir. “I got the juice, I got the Hi-c/No you can’t unlike me,” she boasts. “You got...

Alicia Keys took to Instagram to unveil an emotive cover of Billie Eilish’s 2016 breakout hit “Ocean Eyes.” In the clip, Keys takes a stripped-down approach on the brooding track. While equally moody and yearning, Keys gives the original’s light percussion and synth melodies a piano-buoyed take.
In the clip, Keys is sitting at and playing an upright piano, Keys launches into the song, delivering the aching lyrics with eyes closed as she nods her head along and adds cascading piano flourishes to the melody.

If you work in radio right now and you want to hear the new Taylor Swift single before it comes out at midnight, you are required to navigate a series of stringent security measures. A label representative comes to your station at a pre-appointed time. Before hearing the single, you must sign a nondisclosure agreement. Then you are allowed to listen through noise-cancelling headphones as a snippet of the song is played from a device that is treated with the same care as the nuclear football, according to programmers who...

Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next album is all but guaranteed to debut at Number One. When it does, it will be another in a long string of commercial slam-dunks for Grande.
More surprising, the album’s success also represents a return to the charts for ‘NSync and Wendy Rene. That’s because “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” interpolates a verse from ‘NSync’s jittery “It Makes Me Ill,” while “Fake Smile” borrows from Rene’s “After Laughter (Comes Tears),” a Sixties soul record that has been...

If anyone told you this time last year that Ariana Grande would drop a song that simultaneously samples The Sound of Music and jacks Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag,” would you have believed it? We’ve come a long way from the bubblegum-r&B of her early years.
“7 Rings” is a sexy, feelin’-myself bop inspired by an actual event: a champagne-fueled Tiffany’s shopping spree Grande went on after her breakup with Pete Davidson. She brought along “six of [her] bitches,” as the song goes, and everyone took home matching diamond rings.

Ariana Grande's latest single, "7 Rings," was poised to be 2019's first big hit. But after the pink trap-inspired music video hit YouTube, it didn't take long for fans and critics alike to realize that the melody sounded a little too familiar for comfort, and that the song contains some questionable lyrics. Needless to say, the backlash was swift. Now Grande has responded to it all in the comments section of a photo on the Shade Room's Instagram account, where a meaningful critique of her lyrics was going on between users.
To give you some context, the single, which was released on Jan. 18, was first criticized by rapper Princess Nokia (real name Destiny Frasqueri) in a now-deleted tweet for its similarities to a song she released on her 1992 mixtape called "Mine." The musician, 26, zeroed in on the verse where Grande sings, "Make big deposits, my gloss is poppin' / You like my hair?...

Ariana Grande says she is "so sorry" to anyone offended by her latest single, "7 Rings." As rappers including Princess Nokia and Soulja Boy have come forward to accuse the pop star of stealing the song, Ariana is apologizing for a completely separate controversy involving the lyrics. It all started when the pop star shared (and then swiftly deleted) a fan's post to her Instagram Stories, which quoted a line from "7 Rings." "'You like my hair? Gee, thanks, just bought it…'" the post read, with the user adding sarcastically, "White women talking about their weaves is how we're gonna solve racism." Grande wrote alongside the post...

While Ariana Grande is busy breaking the internet with her latest song "7 Rings," another artist has accused the pop star of ripping off her own song. Princess Nokia took to social media on Friday to point out what she believes are striking similarities between "7 Rings" and "Mine," which was featured on the rapper's 1992 mixtape. Princess Nokia posted a video of herself reacting to both tracks being played simultaneously, telling the camera, "Does that sound familiar to you? 'Cause that sound really familiar to me. Oh my God!" "Ain't that the lil' song I made about brown women and their hair? Hmm… Sounds about white," she...

Now that the Heathers TV series is finally making its way to air, it's releasing not one but two soundtracks to celebrate.
It's been a long and winding road for the Heathers TV show to make it to air.
The dark high school series based on the 1988 film of the same name was initially set to premiere on TV Land in 2017. Then Heathers made its way over to the newly launched Paramount Network instead. Paramount decided to table Heathers for the foreseeable future following a rash of school shooting in the U.S. Finally, Paramount gave Heathers a trim from 10 episodes to 9 and is set to release the series on October 25.
To celebrate finally getting to see the light of day, Heathers is getting not one but two original soundtracks on Lakeshore Records.

Kelela’s “Lmk” gets a star-studded remix treatment with help from CupcakKe, Princess, Nokia and Ms. Boogie. Kelela is readying a remix album of her 2017 full-length Take Me Apart, which arrives on October 5th.
Titled “Lmk_What’s Really Good Remix” strips down the beat a little bit and accents Kelela’s gorgeous vocals with personalized verses from each of its guest artists. While Princess Nokia leans on a more emotional reflection in the beginning, CupcakKe turns out much dirtier bars when she appears later in the song.

The independent label sector is the wellspring of creativity in the music industry and fights hard for its market share, but for all that, it’s never really been big on celebrating itself. The annual Libera Awards, launched seven years ago by the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) trade group, are a rare exception to that rule, and they’ve become a sort of cross between a low-key Grammys and a high-class party for the indie community — a place where you see people dressed up who you ordinarily never see dressed up except at a wedding or in a year when one of their label’s artists has a Grammy nomination. The event, presented by SoundExchange in partnership with BuzzAngle, was held Thursday night at the Best Buy Theater in New York’s Times Square, capped A2IM’s Indie Week conference and confab.
