Berlin, Feb 22 (Ians) Napoli staged a faultless performance on the road, stunning ten-men Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 courtesy of goals from Victor Osimhen and Giovanni Di Lorenzo at the first leg of Champions League last 16 on late Tuesday night.
Napoli dominated possession in the opening period, but it’s the hosts that created the first real chance as Randal Kolo Muani unleashed a dangerous shot from a tight angle across the goal in the fifth minute.
The visitors lacked in penetration but came through in the 20th minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia forced Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp into action, a Xinhua report said.
Napoli gained momentum and rattled the woodwork at the half-hour mark after Hirving Lozano fired a shot against the post from a promising position.
Frankfurt’s defense couldn’t get a grip on Napoli’s strikers as Aurelio Buta conceded a penalty for a foul on Victor Osimhen moments later.

After drawing blanks in their opening two matches, Mexico scored twice in the space of five minutes of the second half to give Mexico a 2-0 lead on Wednesday as the Saudi defence appeared to collapse.
Henry Martin and Luis Chavez scored for Mexico in the thrilling Group C match, but agonizingly went out of the World Cup on goal difference on a night of incredible drama in Doha.
With Argentina beating Poland 2-0 in Group C at Stadium 974 and Mexico leading by the same scoreline at Lusail Stadium in the 94th minute, Gerardo Martino’s side needed one more goal to prevent them from going out according to FIFA’s fair play rule.
"It is a great success after all those years. France will be a big challenge. We didn’t play a perfect game but we will analyse it and will try to have fun and attack," Polish star striker Robert Lewandowski said.

Napoli all but sealed the win before half-time on Thursday evening. The Mexican national team had a very good Sunday with their shocker 1-0 victory over defending champion Germany in the 2018 World Cup, but Telemundo also a truly most excellent day.
Snagging a surging 6.56 million viewers for the 8 Am Pt-starting Group F match, the NBCUniversal-owned network saw its best Sunday daytime audience ever with the game, which marked the most watched group stage match ever on Spanish-language TV. With the game erupting from that goal from Hirving Lozano at the 35-minute mark, the overall sets of eyeballs are also the most for any Mexico World Cup group stage match in any language on any network since the stats began being collected in 1994.
Or to put it another way: Goooaaaal!
Telemundo’s viewership of the Father’s Day match topped the same game in English on Fox Sports 1 by 46%.
Then, there are the realities of contemporary TV consumption with streaming and other platforms.

The earth was literally and figuratively shaken by Mexico’s 1-0 victory over reigning champions Germany on Sunday in the World Cup.
Celebrating fans of our southern neighbor triggered, as my colleague Nancy Tartaglione pointed out earlier today, an artificial earthquake in Mexico City. That big shake came as Hirving Lozano put it in the Die Mannschaft net, which set off the seismic ratings detectors for Fox here in America too.
Scoring a 3.18 in metered market results, Fox Sports 1’s 8 Am Pt-airing Group F battle between Germany and El Tri on Sunday is the best rating it has seen out of the 2018 World Cup so far – barely. Coming from behind in Sunday’s schedule and the results, the 1-1 tie between chastened powerhouse Brazil and Switzerland pulled in a 2.95 for the match portion of the Fox Sport 1 coverage.
Interestingly, the Brazil-Swiss actually topped the Mexico-Germany game in local market results,...

Sunday’s Germany v Mexico World Cup match, which saw the defending champions defeated 0-1 by El Tri, reportedly set off an artificial earthquake in Mexico City — caused by simultaneous mass jumping after Hirving Lozano’s 35th-minute goal. The Mexican win is the latest surprise in the tournament that’s already seen plenty on the pitch since kick-off last Thursday. Unsurprisingly, ratings have been strong across Europe, particularly in Germany where a massive amount of fans tuned in to yesterday’s fixture with 25.97M viewers giving Zdf an 81.6 share of the — ultimately disappointed — TV audience.
Die Mannschaft’s entry into the tournament after winning four years ago was almost equal in the overnight ratings to its first match back in 2014 when it faced Portugal with 26.29M viewers and an 81.7 share. Nineteen of the top 20 most-watched TV programs ever in Germany are soccer matches, with each garnering more than 25M viewers.

German newspaper Die Welt took a swipe at Mexico today in the name of World Cup soccer, publishing a somewhat inflammatory headline about what Germany would do to them on the pitch by alluding to Us President Donald Trump’s plans for a barrier on the border.
By hinting at erecting a wall against Mexican soccer’s advance, perhaps the Die Welt editors forgot the not-so-small matter of the Berlin Wall and the pain it caused their own country. Maybe it was intended to fire up the German team.
The problem is, it may have fired up the wrong side from what the German editors intended.
In a titanic upset, Mexico secured a 1-0 victory over defending world champion Germany. Hirving Lozano’s first-half goal and some hard work on defense led to what may be the biggest win in Mexico soccer history and the first major upheaval of the 2018 World Cup.
