Bhagat Singh is an Indian film director and screenwriter. He completed his PhD at Centre for Media Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, focusing on "Stage, Performance and Senses: A Study of New Media Practices in Contemporary Indian Theatre". He was also a Visiting Faculty member at Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, New Delhi. He had completed his Masters in economics from JNU, after which he devoted his time completely to performing arts namely theatre and later on venturing into cinema. He went on to complete an M.Phil in Media Studies from JNU, specializing in New Media forms of theatre performances, before pursuing a PhD.
He have directed several plays such as The Bear (Anton Chekhov), Veergati (Asghar Wajahat), Intimacy (Based on a story by Jean-Paul Sartre) and A Raisin in the Sun (Lorraine Hansberry). He has contributed to several plays as a writer as well. He worked as an Assistant Director in a Haryanvi Film "Dada Lakhmi" which won a National Award in 2022. He wrote and directed several shorts namely, Salbatein (2020) which is a satirical monologue on the absurdity in the life of a housewife, Paanch Thappad Aur Ek Tractor (2022) which is a story about how a panchayat deals with the rape of a lower caste minor girl, Tell me the Truth (2017) which is a conversation between a murderer and an Investigating Officer and Between the Two (2017) which is a story of a woman torn between two men while finding herself in the life. He also directed a feature (unreleased) namely 8 Years which tells the story of a couple after their dreams of a marriage is shattered because of caste barriers. In addition to this, he directed and assisted on a few documentaries on socio-political issues such as homelessness, unemployment, drug addiction and caste consciousness.
