Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
Add Hannah Waddingham to the list of actors who would love to be in a superhero movie. “Why do you think I’ve done sci-fi things in the past?” says the “Ted Lasso” star, whose credits include the television adaptation of “12 Monkeys” and “Krypton,” a Syfy series about Superman’s grandfather. “Why wouldn’t I want to play something that goes, ‘Oh, now you’re going to walk through that wall and kill everyone in the room and then shoot up to the sky?’” Does she have a particular superhero in mind? “All the Marvel characters are magnificent,” says Waddingham, who is in London with the cast and crew of “Ted Lasso” prepping to shoot the hit Apple TV Plus series’ third season in early March. “I want to be one that absolutely busts everyone’s balls but looks fabulous doing it.

We got trouble, my friends, right there in New York City. It’s trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with C, and that stands for … Covid. Broadway’s revival of The Music Man has canceled performances through at least January 1 after star Hugh Jackman tested positive for the coronavirus.
The musical’s co-lead, Sutton Foster, revealed late last week that she had tested positive for the virus. But for now, performances are set to resume on Sunday, January 2.
It’s just the latest Broadway show forced to go dark as the nation and world endure the latest Covid spike, spurred by the more-contagious but potentially less dangerous Omicron variant.
“Just wanted you to hear it from me. I tested positive for covid,” Jackman tweeted today. Mild symptoms and as soon as I’m cleared … looking forward to getting back to The Winter Garden! @MusicManBway

They won’t be singing “Ya Got Trouble” at the Hugh Jackman Music Man revival. At least, not on the scheduled Christmas Day and Dec. 26 shows, which have been officially canceled because of Covid.
The show was struck by illness earlier in the week, when actress Sutton Foster tested positive, causing her to miss Thursday’s preview performance. She posted Friday morning on Instagram, confirming the reason for her absence. Now, producers have taken it one step further, going dark for the next two scheduled dates and possibly into the future.
The cancellations are part of a larger trend on the Great White Way. A dozen Broadway shows have gone dark this week after cast or crew tested positive, a gut punch for an industry that hoped to resuscitate itself with a strong holiday season after an 18-month hiatus.
