1985 to 1987 temporary soldier in the integrated service of NATO at HQ AFCENT in Brunssum/Netherlands. Studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn. First state law examination at the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf in 1993. Legal clerkship at the Superior Court of Justice in Berlin. Second state law examination there in 1998.

Since 1998 member of the German Foreign Service. Initially as attaché in the preparatory service for the higher service, secondment in the summer of 1999 to the German Embassy in Helsinki. After passing the career examination, 1st Secretary at the German Embassy Sofia from 2000 to 2003.
From 2003 to 2005 he worked as an advisor in the NATO department of the German Foreign Office.

Chairman of the State Committee for Federal and European Affairs of the CDU Brandenburg since 2008. 2009, 2014 and 2019 candidate of the CDU Brandenburg (list position 3) for the elections to the European Parliament.
