The majority of American comic books published each month follow a fairly conventional approach to artwork — they follow the superhero traditions on display at every convention. Some comics do veer off into other directions, however, and the new AfterShock Comics series Trust Fall is in that maverick category.
The 32-page first issue of Trust Fall goes on sale June 12 with a super-powered grifter saga from writer Christopher Sebela and artist Chris Visions, the tandem that previously collaborated on Dead Letters. In today’s exclusive preview of the artwork, it’s clear that Visions has his sights set on an aesthetic that is light years removed from the latest issue of, say, Amazing Spider-Man or Hellboy. Visions explained that the collaborative comfort pushed the style even farther and further than initially expected.

Sure, the women of the Real Housewives franchises know how to flip a table, but that’s not a true catfight.
A true catfight is dozens of perfectly primped felines battling for the title of Canada’s top cat by schlepping to different curling clubs across the cold country to be fawned over by a rotating cast of judges in cardigans.
This is also the subject matter of Catwalk: Tales from the Cat Show Circuit, a Markham Street Films documentary that is now streaming on Netflix and has recently been discovered by the people of Twitter.

First up, the consumer note that I wanted but didn’t get: this is indeed Volume 1 of the books reprinting the 2012 Captain Marvel series written by Kelly Sue DeConnick. (It contains twelve issues and the second volume has five more.) That was preceded by comics called Captain Marvel (just by Marvel, with various people using that superhero moniker) in 2008, 2002, 2000, 1995, 1994, 1989, and 1968, and followed by further Marvel Captain Marvel series in 2014, 2016, and 2017.
So this is nowhere near the beginning of anything. Being a superhero series from one of the Big Two, I shouldn’t have to mention that it’s nowhere near an ending, either.
But, there’s a Captain Marvel movie coming, vaguely sort-of based on this take on the character, so this is the book Marvel is hoping people will buy once they see and like that movie, and this series is also somewhat of a grand-mommy to the recent...

Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect) has picked up the rights to an upcoming comic book from Image Comics called Crowded. The plan is for her to produce and star in the film adaptation.
Crowded comes from writer Christopher Sebela and artist's Ro Stein and Ted Brandt, and the story is set in the near future "where the world’s economy is all job sharing and apps and where a crowdfunding platform that funds assassinations named Reapr is all the rage."
The story is set in motion when a woman named Charlie, leading a quiet normal life, finds her world upside down when she suddenly becomes a target on Reapr, with a multimillion-dollar bounty. Desperate, the woman hires the only person she is able to afford: Vita, the lowest-rated bodyguard on the Dfend app. The two have to work together to take down the aspirational assassins and find out who wants Charlie...

First of all, this is just a bit of Star Wars humor that I think we can all get a kick out of. There's nothing to lash out against here. It's just supposed to be fun. Remember the days when Star Wars was fun!? We should get back to that place.
Anyway, a group of fans got together and launched the Twitter account @RMTheLastJedi to begin a campaign to raise money to develop a "fan remake" of Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I guess they must've have secured the rights from Lucasfilm to do that... right? Sometime's fans can be silly.
Our team of producers is offering to cover the budget for a remake of The Last Jedi in order to save Star Wars. Share this and spread the word to let @RobertIger & @Disney know you want this! This isn't a joke, we're ready to have the convo now!

Though we’ve yet to receive any official photos of Brie Larson in costume as the supercharged Carol Danvers, our longing for Captain Marvel (and the ’90s!) has been irrefutably fulfilled thanks to the deluge of leaked set photos that have emerged online over the past few weeks. And while they obviously aren’t as good as the real thing, we’ll take what we can get at this stage.
After all, it’s taken far too long for the fan favorite hero to receive the big-screen treatment, but after 10 years and 18 installments, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally ready to swing its doors open to Carol Danvers. And we couldn’t be more excited – even if we still don’t have an official look at Larson in the role.
While we wait for that to surface, the set photos continue to pour in and today, we’ve got two more.

If you're a fan of Ghost Rider, I've got some great news for you! Marvel Comics has announced a new series from comic book writer Christopher Sebela (Captain Marvel, Demonic) called Damnation: Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider. He made the announcement on Twitter and also revealed the first piece of badass art. That art comes from Phil Noto (Batgirl, Star Wars: Poe Dameron), who will be working on the series with Sebela. I love Noto's work and I can't wait to see more! This is what the announcement said:
"Oh hey, I guess I can tell you that I'm writing Damnation: Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider #1 and @philnoto is drawing it and life is weird."
I suspect this series is going to be strange and twisted because that's the kind of stuff that Sebela does. Apparently, he lived in a haunted clown motel for 30 days and wrote a book based on his experience.
