Steve Byrne is a singer, record producer and folklorist from Arbroath in Scotland. He is best known as founder member, in 1998, of the award-winning folksong group Malinky, with whom he has toured Europe and North America, releasing five albums. He graduated from the School of Scottish Studies at the University of Edinburgh in 2000, going on to work in local government as Traditional Arts Officer for the City of Edinburgh. For several years he was a Scots song cataloguer on the landmark Kist o Riches/Tobar an Dualchais sound archive project, and is known for his work in relation to Hamish Henderson, the Scottish poet, folklorist and peace activist. He works part-time with an Edinburgh community music charity, Scots Music Group, alongside a varied career as a performer, record producer, researcher, lecturer, broadcaster, author and advocate for Scottish traditional arts. In 2017, he worked as singing coach and repertoire consultant for the Netflix film, Outlaw King.
