The Scream franchise was fairly popular for releasing some of the most enjoyable horror movies in pop culture. Starting with the first Scream movie in 1996, this slasher franchise has 5 more movies and a TV show under its belt. But after Scream 6 (2023), things took a turn when actress Melissa Barrera was fired from the franchise. Her social media post about the Israel-Hamas was deemed antisemitic by the production house behind the franchise, and they decided to let go of the actress in November last year.
Melissa Barrera in Scream 5
Although talks about Scream 7 had been ongoing before all the controversy, things went into a limbo after. After Barrera, news broke out that the other lead star of the franchise, Jenna Ortega, had also left months before the firing because of a scheduling conflict and an alleged pay dispute. And then, Christopher Landon, who had been brought on to direct the sequel,...

We've gotten more used to seeing Joshua Jackson on small screens in recent years, with the likes of The Affair and Fatal Attraction. But he's headed back to cinemas with a big gig – Jackson will appear alongside Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio and Ben Wang in Sony's new Karate Kid film.
With I'm Not Okay With This' Jonathan Entwistle directing from a script by Peter Rabbit writer Rob Lieber, a lot about the new film is being kept quiet for now, but we do know that it'll switch the story from its usual Southern California locales to the East Coast of the States. Macchio and Chan's presence, points to Daniel Larusso and Mr. Han teaming up to train a new youngster in martial arts (American Born Chinese star Wang).
How Jackson fits in is similarly a mystery, but we could easily see him deploying smooth charm as a wrong 'un.

While Denis Villeneuve has proved himself as one of Hollywood’s prolific directors, the Dune films have further cemented his place as a technical and artistic genius. The Canadian filmmaker’s expertise was also seen in Blade Runner 2049 starring Ryan Gosling which prompted eager fans to speculate on the possibility of him directing a future Marvel or DC film.
A scene from Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049
Unfortunately, this may remain only a pipe dream if Villeneuve’s latest comments are taken into context. Following the huge release of Dune 2 on the 2nd of March, the director recalled his experience in remaking his idol Ridley Scott’s iconic film and why he can never go in this direction again, much to the chagrin of fans.

Sony’s new Karate Kid movie will see Ben Wang star alongside Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio. More here:
After a lengthy search which saw a quite frightening number of actors apply for the role, the next Karate Kid film has cast its title star. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive, it’s Ben Wang, previously known for his work on the series American Born Chinese.
As it turns out, Wang is quite spectacularly suited for the role, given that he’s well versed in a number of martial arts forms, including kung fu, kempo, taekwondo as well as karate. We wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of him, frankly.
Sony’s Karate Kid film is the first since the 2010 reboot, in which Jaden Smith took over from Ralph Macchio as the bullied teenager taken under the wing of a martial arts sage, played in that...

Last November, word landed — via Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, no less — that Sony was looking to continue the Karate Kid franchise in a way that sadly isn't the big screen shot that Cobra Kai deserves, but instead an odd plan to combine the original storyline and the 2010 reimagining, with Macchio and Chan starring alongside a newcomer. A global casting search was kicked off to find the new kid and… well, we've got bad news for any total unknowns who applied as American Born Chinese actor Ben Wang has nailed the audition and won the role.
The new movie has I’m Not Okay with This and The End Of The F-ing World creator Jonathan Entwistle directing from a script by Peter Rabbit's Rob Lieber. Ralph Macchio, who starred in the original “The Karate Kid” from 1984, and martial arts legend Jackie Chan, who appeared in the 2010 reboot “The Karate Kid,” are both returning to the franchise for Sony’s upcoming sequel film.
The two actors will each reprise their original characters but are joining together in the same movie for the first time. On November 21, Chan and Macchio shared in a video they’d be returning to the film, but they also revealed the studio is launching a global casting search to find the next Karate Kid. They’re encouraging you to wax on and wax off and submit your best video online for a chance to star in the movie.
Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but the studio is aiming to release the still-untitled project on December 13, 2024.

Lion Forge Entertainment and Penguin Young Readers have struck a new TV and film development pact to produce adaptations of several children’s books.
The deal will allow the entertainment company to develop and adapt a slate of titles from the division of Penguin Random House — and one of the industry’s leading children’s book publishers — into animated and/or live action properties. Titles currently selected for development span readership ages three to 12 and come from Penguin Workshop, Grosset & Dunlap and Viking.
“The creative team at Penguin Young Readers are as passionate about storytelling and world-building as we are at Lion Forge,” said Lion Forge Entertainment president and chief content officer Stephanie Sperber. “Their publishing list aligns perfectly with the content we bring to market, and we are eager to develop these books for kids and family audiences globally.”

Paramount+ opened the floodgates to purge content from its streaming platform last week when it removed Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, The Game, Queens of the Universe, and Star Trek: Prodigy.
Deadline reported Monday that all five seasons of Inside Amy Schumer had been banished from the service, with no telling whether the show will return at another destination.
Also removed is Tell Me a Story, which was canceled after two seasons in 2020.
The anthology from Kevin Williamson had previously been leased to The CW to help shore up its schedule during the pandemic.
Blood & Treasure, which began its life as a CBS original before being placed on a multi-year hiatus to return on Paramount+ before being canceled, has also been removed.
The list goes on. Here's the full list of titles no longer available to stream.

Inside Amy Schumer returned to Paramount+ after six years for its fifth season – a season that Paramount was hoping could score an Emmy nomination to compete against the likes of SNL and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
However, Emmy voters hoping to take a last minute watch on Paramount+ before tonight’s voting deadline will have been disappointed after it was one of the latest titles to be scrapped from the streaming service.
Paramount+ has purged a phalanx of programming today including a number of original series, original movies and Nickelodeon content.
The low-profile move comes after Paramount revealed last week that it was canceling and scrapping four series: Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, The Game and Queen of the Universe.

Disney is giving The Aristocats the remake treatment, and they’ve tapped Questlove — one of the coolest cats in the biz — to direct.
According to Variety, the update of the 1970 classic will be a blend of live-action and CGI. A couple other flicks that have tried this method in the past few years include Sonic the Hedgehog and Space Jam: A New Legacy, two movies that had somewhat tumultuous rollouts. All heroes deserve an origin story. And all stuffed bears deserve a cultural resurgence. At long last, everyone's favorite honey-loving woodland creature will get both: Winnie the Pooh is returning to theaters in 2024 via a prequel film to A.A. Milne's classic book. The newest iteration of Pooh Bear and pals comes courtesy of Baboon Animation (the multi-Emmy winning studio behind "Angry Birds" and "Gigantosaurus") and Iqi Media, Inc.
DreamWorks alumnus Mike de Seve will direct, and co-write with fellow DreamWorks alum John Reynolds ("The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show"). Yet another DreamWorks alum is getting in on the action too: Charlene Kelly ("Next Gen") will serve as executive producer. "A.A. Milne's bear has aged gracefully in the last hundred years," Kelly said, per the press release, before hinting at the premise of the upcoming film. "But what happened, back-when, that made him and his pals who they are in the book?...

A prequel feature and series inspired by British writer A.A. Milnes children’s classic Winnie-the-Pooh is under development, in a joint production between U.S. companies Baboon Animation and Iqi Media.

With Paddington Bear and Peter Rabbit having been given hugely successful big-screen reboots, a group of DreamWorks alumni are hoping to do the same for another beloved British children’s creation: Winnie-the-Pooh.
A prequel feature to A.A. Milne’s classic book about the honey-loving teddy bear is in development, with Mike de Seve (Madagascar, Monsters vs. Aliens) lined up to direct and co-write with John Reynolds (The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show). In a similar vein to Paddington, the film — which has a planned release date of 2024 — is set to be immediately followed by a TV series.

Lyle the crocodile is not meant to be judged by his exterior, just like Bernard Waber’s childrens book from which he originated. If both were judged by their covers, readers and viewers would surely miss out.
“We made the movie because we loved the book,” said director Josh Gordon in an interview with TheWrap. “And the story behind the book, which to us was really about embracing joy and the power of love to save people and unlock potential.”
“Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” tells (and sings) the story of a stage-shy crocodile who has the voice of an angel (Shawn Mendes). Lyle gets discovered by Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem) in a last-ditch effort trip to Eddie’s Exotic Animals, where he hopes to find his hail mary magical animal act to make money and repay his growing debt. Gordon directed alongside longtime moviemaking partner Will Speck.

It's a shame that director Will Gluck has recently retreated into CGI Peter Rabbit territory as earlier in his career he brought a welcome breath of fresh air to screens with his satire Easy A and this smart rom-com with the likeable pairing of Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis in the central roles. They play art director Dylan, who strikes up a friendship with headhunter Jamie - which evolves into a physical relationship which they pledge to ensure will have no strings attached. This, of course, is easier said than done but the team of writers, for the most part, take a clear-eyed, sparky approach and if it does stray towards formula in the end, they can hardly be blamed for giving the audience what they ultimately want from this genre.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal of eccentric Edwardian artist famed for his cute cats is brimful of star cameos but gets lost in mannered performances
Here is a sentimental biopic that buries you in a fusillade of quirks and tics and flicks, an overegged pudding of a film with producer-star Benedict Cumberbatch once again going into Sherlock Turing mode. He plays eccentric Edwardian artist and illustrator Louis Wain, a lively and arguably brilliant man who might today be considered neurodiverse, and who certainly suffered from depression. But for all his gifts, Wain finally became famous for just one thing: his hugely successful cute drawings of cats in jokey poses for the Illustrated London News. In Britain – and the US, where he was also popular – Wain could claim to have reinvented the cat as a lovable domestic familiar, the feline version of Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit. But Wain was stricken with...

Nickelodeon has removed its animated preschool show Made by Maddie from its schedule in response to a controversy about similarities between its characters and those in Matthew A. Cherry’s Oscar-winning short Hair Love.
The network announced the decision Friday in a statement obtained by Deadline.
“Made by Maddie is a show we acquired several years ago from Silvergate Media, a renowned production company we have previously worked with on other series.” the network said. “Since announcing the show’s premiere date this week, we have been listening closely to the commentary, criticism and concern coming from both viewers and members of the creative community.
In response, and out of respect to all voices in the conversation, we are removing the show from our schedule as we garner further insight into the creative journey of the show. We are grateful to Silvergate Media for all of their work. And we hold Matthew A.

Mark Rogers shoots film and television stills and key art in Australia and internationally. Here he shines some light on what he calls the best and the worst job on set, and outlines how lower budget films can maximise resources to ensure the best quality images.
The key challenge for a stills photographer is to shoot iconic images that capture the essence and emotion of a film. Other than the trailer, this is the only way the film can be marketed and communicated to audiences. These images are the first impression the public will have of a movie, and a hero still or poster can often be the most lasting image associated with it over time.

"Join them! Frolic!" Sony Pictures has released the full-length official trailer for the live-action CG hybrid sequel Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, the follow-up to Sony's Peter Rabbit movie from 2018. Director Will Gluck returns, along with James Corden as the voice of the pesky Peter Rabbit. Old tricks. New mischief! In this sequel, Peter leaves the old garden to head to the city, finding himself in a world where his mischief is appreciated. But when his family risks everything to come looking for him and bring him home, Peter must figure out what kind of bunny he wants to be. The full cast includes Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, David Oyelowo, Elizabeth Debicki, with Margot Robbie and Daisy Ridley as Cotton-Tail. Maybe kids will enjoy it, but this still looks as boring and forgettable as the first movie. It's worth skipping. Here's the full-length trailer for Will Gluck's Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway,...

The future is precarious for Peter Rabbit, as he realizes that happy families lead to babies — which means he could get thrown out on his fluffy little tail if his reputation as a furry troublemaker keeps up.
In the latest trailer for “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” released Wednesday, our bunny hero gets tired of being scolded for stealing tomatoes or causing mayhem in the garden and decides to take matters into his own paws by hitting the road.

David Seargeant.
The chairman of the National Association of Cinema Operators (Naco) has warned that Netflix and other streaming companies are endangering medium-sized films that can gross $5 million-$8 million in Australia.
In his opening address at the Australian International Movie Convention on Monday David Seargeant reiterated his criticism of a handful of Australian cinemas that have booked Netflix productions The King, The Irishman, Marriage Story and The Two Popes despite a three-week theatrical window.
Seargeant expressed his disappointment at these exhibitors’ decision “to take a film on the basis of a technical release for short term gain and not giving the film the benefit of a theatrical season.”
He did not name the cinemas, which If has identified as Dendy Cinemas, Eddie Tamir’s Classic, Lido and Cameo Cinemas in Victoria and Randwick Ritz, the Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace, New Farm Cinemas and The Elizabeth Picture Theatre in Brisbane and The Backlot in Perth.
