“How to Build a Coffin” is a whole lot of everything we absolutely love about Evil. There may not be a big step forward toward the end of time, but episode 4 of the last season of Evil is unprecedentedly nostalgic about the bad ol’ times of half-hearted exorcisms and our demon-slayer Sister Andrea in all her enigmatic glory. I’m expecting a full-on collision between an enraged Kristen and a mousy Leland later this season. And boy, will that be a treat to watch!

Is Stuart Lawry possessed?
Stuart Lawry’s at a loss for words on live television. It’s not just another day on the job as a reporter, I suppose, because Lawry sounds like a guy having a stroke. But what can he do when he’s literally forgetting the words he speaks on a daily basis? It seems just odd enough for the church...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Evil Season 4 Episode 4 “How to Build a Coffin.”] Leland’s (Michael Emerson) manipulation of Andy (Patrick Brammall) takes a potentially deadly turn in the latest episode of Evil. Has he gone too far? Since Andy “came home from a climbing expedition and avalanche,” as he so thinks, something’s been off. That’s because he never left New York; rather, Leland and Sheryl (Christine Lahti) were holding him captive, which he has had flashes of, and are now brainwashing him and manipulating him into doing their bidding. Sheryl really wants back in with her daughter Kristen (Katja Herbers), while Leland whispers in Andy’s ear that his wife and David (Mike Colter) are having an affair. Kristen denies it. Now, in “How to Build a Coffin,” Leland, during their latest session, tells Andy to, in the middle of the night, inject Laura with a ...

Evil Season 4 Episode 4 had it all: two demons, a gut-wrenching development with Andy, and an unfit father trying to parent the Antichrist.
"How to Build a Coffin" played the audience like a fine instrument, taking us from merriment to tragedy in the blink of an eye.
Every episode reminds me of how Evil towers over the competition with its storytelling on both broadcast and streaming, and it makes the coming end all the more daunting.
Evil Opening Credits are a Mandatory Watch
Who else consistently enjoys Evil's opening credits?
Not only do they excellently make every opening wholly unique to the story being told for a particular episode, but They also speak directly to you should you be so bold as to attempt to skip the remainder.

Newly minted Oscar winner Wes Anderson has now wrapped production on his next feature, The Phoenician Scheme, in Germany. We’ve known the story of a family and a family business, specifically capturing a father-daughter relationship in a dark espionage tale, has a cast that features Benicio del Toro, Michael Cera, Bill Murray, Mia Threapleton, and Riz Ahmed. Now the full ensemble has been unveiled, featuring many familiar faces from the director’s cinematic universe.
Anderson’s recent Asteroid City collaborators Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Willem Dafoe, Rupert Friend, and Bryan Cranston have joined, according to a German crew posting, as has his Henry Sugar star Benedict Cumberbatch. Charlotte Gainsbourg, a newcomer to the world of Wes Anderson, will be playing “first wife” in the film, presumably in relation to Benicio del Toro’s character. Evil Season 4 Episode 3 is brimming with juicy details and reveals that really get the conversation going for the remainder of the season.
Sheryl's working from the inside to take down Leland? The Anti-Christ was born! David's first remote viewing mission is life or death for many.
Let's dig into Evil!
David's First Mission
David's remote viewing training was very short, and his first mission was literally life and death.
But David can be quite stubborn when he wants to be, so he barely gave viewing a shot when Father Dominic gave him the assignment. David feels used, and he doesn't like that one of only 250 priests in the US is now his handler.
If it's a conspiracy of some sort based on race, I'd be surprised. Father Dominic's Nigerian origins are the more likely explanation for his involvement.
Americans are skeptical of things like remote viewing, but when...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Evil Season 4 Episode 3 “How to Slaughter a Pig.”] Well, the Antichrist is here. And try as Kristen (Katja Herbers) might be to keep herself separate from all of that on Evil, she ends up right by the surrogate Leslie’s (Molly Brown) side for the actual birth. Leslie goes into labor while she and other women are gathered in Sheryl’s (Christine Lahti) office to discuss their terrible work conditions and the credit men take in the company. At the private facility, where Nurse Bloch (Tara Summers) works, Leslie begins getting freaked out—first by the movement she can see that far exceeds a normal baby pre-birth then by when she’s so certain she hears Leland (Michael Emerson) talking about killing her and feeding her body to the baby. He later claims to Leslie that he was talking about the biological mother (Kristen). Leslie then leaves the facility and calls Kristen,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Evil Season 4 Episode 2 “How to Train a Dog.”] Let’s just say that we have a feeling Sheryl (Christine Lahti) wants to take Leland (Michael Emerson) down even more than ever before after the latest Evil episode. Sheryl tries to gain some footing at work, but it’s run by a misogynistic board of men and demons, so that’s easier said than done. When she speaks up in a meeting, offering up her connection as Kristen’s (Katja Herbers) mother—the biological mother of the Antichrist— Leland shuts her down; the board doesn’t like hearing from women because they consider them to be weak. He suggests she prove herself by getting Greg Bruni (Danny Mastrogiorgio) in line, with the demon inside him starting to peep through. She does just that by cutting his finger off. She delivers it to the Manager, but even that’s not enough to get a promotion.

Evil Season 4 Episode 2 ratcheted up the tension as many of our favorite characters found themselves distressed.
Some kicked ass, like Sheryl, and some fell into a blubbering heap, like Andy. Either way, there's a lot to digest, as we are only a mere 12 episodes away from the finale.
Although "How to Train a Werewolf" began with a supernatural bent, science won this time out.
Every season has a theme, and the pop-up book at the beginning of the credits (which began 17 minutes into the episode) is The Big Pop-Up Book of Science.
This makes me wonder if they'll tie the whole series together with a scientific explanation for everything before the end. That would be a satisfying series conclusion, if somewhat disappointing.

A Cujo-core droid that’s just as adorable as it is terrifying? Sounds like someone we know. We’re looking at you, Kristen! But I’d cut her some slack considering episode 2 of the final season of Evil chucks her life into a tornado of problems. Ben and David have got troubles of their own brewing. So, what mystery are we half-solving this week?
Kristen’s right. A werewolf that scares easy isn’t the type that’d chase the parish priest and the congregants away. The so deliciously chilling Paramount+ drama picks up right where it left off, with Kristen finding out that Leland used her egg with a surrogate, and now the Antichrist will be born in 38 days. “I can’t think of any greater torture I could devise for you than to give you a baby: a crying, s**tting baby. A virtual press day with the leads of Evil was bittersweet, and this wasn’t lost on any of us who participated.
TV Fanatic chatted with Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi about the upcoming season, which premieres on Thursday, May 23. We are all hoping for a Hail Mary pass that will save the genre-defying show.
It’s easy to joke that Evil should be around as long as evil exists in the world, but the truth is that creators Robert and Michelle King have managed to say something important about the subject for three seasons, and that doesn’t stop during Season 4.
We always wonder what we can do to score that oft-sought last-minute save of a beloved series, and the answer is to watch it.

Paramount+’s philosophical horror drama begins its fourth and final season—ending far too soon for its many fans. What can we expect? To start, the psychopathic devil-worshiping Leland (Michael Emerson) is not enjoying raising Timothy, the puking, pooping infant, born via surrogate from a purloined egg from Kristen (Katja Herbers) that he self-fertilized and whom he believes to be the Antichrist. He’s not the only one with issues, however. All three of the Catholic Church’s exorcist assessors are going through a lot. Confirmed atheist Ben (Aasif Mandvi) “has a real crisis of faith—in science and medicine, after suffering from migraines and visions,” says Evil executive producer Robert King. “His arc is moving from a true belief in science and medicine to how much of life is a mystery beyond that.” “David [Mike Colter] is clearly struggling with his attraction to Kristen,” King continues. “But even more...

One of the best, and rarest, feelings one can experience as a TV viewer is to watch a show and get the distinct feeling that its creators are getting away with something. That they're pushing buttons that someone asked them to avoid. That they're crafting imagery that's going to haunt and unsettle. That they're using a medium commonly associated with comfort and passivity to infuriate, baffle, and intrigue.
And across its four seasons, "Evil" has always felt just like that. Its first season, which aired on CBS, was a "Hannibal"-sized middle finger to decency and typical television sensibilities (that should be read as high praise). Later seasons moved to Paramount+, where the streaming wild west allowed showrunners Robert and Michelle King to really let their freak flag fly. The duo best known for "The Good Wife" were allowed to take every rule they learned while crafting a reliable network...

Oh, this is such delicious casting! But what else would we expect from the chilling Evil? Richard Kind and John Carroll Lynch will guest star, and Danny Burstein will return, throughout the show’s four bonus episodes—and Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson) is on trial, TV Insider has learned exclusively. These were the episodes Paramount+ ordered to wrap up the series once it was determined the upcoming fourth season would be its last. Kind will guest star as Judge Joseph Jeter. He is a seemingly by-the-books, straight-arrow judge who is overseeing Leland Townsend’s trial and values efficiency at all costs. Lynch plays Henry Stick, the attorney assigned to Leland Townsend. He appears to be a bumbling, barely competent lawyer, but fortunately for Leland, Henry Stick proves to have greater power than is initially evident. Burstein is reprising his role as Da Lewis Cormier. He previously appeared in four episodes...

Robert and Michelle King's "Evil" is one of the best shows of the streaming era, and one of the best horror TV shows of all time, period (as determined by us). The tale of a team of researchers working for the Catholic Church to investigate supernatural events is a bit like "Law & Order" meets "Hannibal," but with the world-building and expansive story involving demonic conspiracies of the underrated "The Exorcist" TV show. After three wonderful, scary, funny seasons, "Evil" is coming to an end with its fourth and final season, which premieres May 23, 2024, on Paramount+.
The third season of "Evil" ended with the big reveal of Kristen discovering her missing egg (a lingering mystery from all the way back in season 1) has been fertilized ... with Leland's child. Former President Donald Trump filed a defamation lawsuit against ABC News and George Stephanopoulos over the remarks the anchor made during an interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina) on This Week.
Trump’s lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Miami on March 18, focused on how Stephanopoulos, at many points in his questioning, mentioned that the former president was found “liable for rape.” The jury found him liable for sexual abuse under New York law, but not rape.
“These statements were and remain false, and were made by Defendant Stephanopoulos with actual malice or with a reckless disregard for the truth given that Defendant Stephanopoulos knows that these statements are patently and demonstrably false,” Trump’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, wrote in the 20-page complaint.

British director and screenwriter who enjoyed huge success with his 1987 hit film Wish You Were Here
Grittiness and compassion were the twin hallmarks of the writer and director David Leland, who has died aged 82. He scripted a clutch of uncompromising films that launched the screen careers of Cathy Tyson, Emily Lloyd and Tim Roth. Leland’s writing was distinctly British in flavour but without the parochial sensibility that might have limited its appeal.
His early draft of Mona Lisa (1986), an underworld thriller about the relationship between a sex worker (Tyson) and her driver (Bob Hoskins), was tougher and nastier than the finished film. Leland shared the screenplay credit with its Irish director, Neil Jordan.

From Wish You Were Here to Mona Lisa and The Big Man, he was determined to shine a light on those marginalised in society albeit using his quirky sense of humour
David Leland was a master of understatement with a social conscience and wildly wicked sense of humour, arising like his friends the Pythons from our everyday humdrum British universe in the 60s and 70s.
More than 40 years ago I saw the astonishing Made in Britain. The film that made Tim Roth – who played a violent skinhead – a star, was written by Leland for the producer and director Alan Clarke. It was a a biting attack on rightwing Thatcherite policies and it is just as relevant to today’s brutal system.
