The Final 4 contestants on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” have officially been named: Symone, Rosé, Gottmik and Kandy Muse. But how many of them will make it to the finale? That’s still Tbd. During the sneak peek video for Friday’s penultimate episode (watch above), the queens wonder if the reality TV show might have another twist in store for them. “We were gagged at the beginning, so they might gag us at the end,” notes Symone. The 14th episode, titled “Gettin’ Lucky,” airs Friday, April 9 on VH1.

Tamron Hall came out in defense of her interview with disqualified “Drag Race” contestant and admitted sexual predator Sherry Pie (real name Joey Gugliemelli) on Tuesday, telling her audience that the segment should not be interpreted as promoting the disgraced drag queen.
“I’ve been a reporter for 30 years, and I’ve conducted and watched interviews with people who have done bad things. I’ve interviewed rapists, I’ve interviewed murderers … it’s not giving away your platform; it’s called an interview. And people who do bad things are interviewed,” Hall said, responding to former “Drag Race” contestants, among others, who said that hosting Gugliemelli on her show amounted to elevating a perpetrator over his victims.
Gugliemelli competed on Season 12 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” as Sherry Pie, but was disqualified from the VH1 competition after multiple men publicly accused him of posing as a casting director online to coerce them into sexually compromising positions.

For the first time since being disqualified from RuPaul’s Drag Race in March 2020, disgraced performer Sherry Pie (the stage name of Joey Gugliemelli) sat down for a live televised interview on Tuesday’s Tamron Hall Show.
Before we jump in, here’s some background: Gugliemelli competed in the 12th season of VH1’s popular reality competition series, but a series of sexual misconduct allegations were brought against him just hours before his first episode was set to air, prompting producers to edit him out of the season and disqualify him from the competition. The 12th season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” will go down in reality TV history for a number of ways. First and foremost, this was the installment that had to film its finale remotely from home because of the coronavirus pandemic. (Jaida Essence Hall was named the winner while Crystal Methyd and Gigi Goode tied for second place.) But perhaps most infamously, Season 12 will always be remembered for controversial contestant Sherry Pie, who was disqualified after filming wrapped and later edited out of episodes. Despite the setbacks, “Drag Race” is still predicted to win Best Competition Program at the 2020 Emmys for the third consecutive time.

A decade ago Goloka Bolte and her business partner Ethan Peterson founded the Casting Firm, and a little over eight years ago they were brought on to cast “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and its subsequent spinoffs. Since then they have been nominated three times for reality casting Emmys and now Bolte, who also acts as president of the company, can be found casting up to seven shows at any one time.
What do you look for when it comes to casting “RuPaul’s Drag Race”?
The queen needs to have a great story and a defined character. We’re looking for things we haven’t seen before. We look for someone who is unique and has many different skills. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is a competition unlike any other. We need to know if they can dance and sing. Will they be good at off-the-cuff humor and comedy?

Season 12 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” came to a close on Friday, May 5th after a rollercoaster of a season that culminated in only three finalists competed in pre-recorded lip sync performances virtually from home. Finalists Crystal Methyd, Gigi Goode and Jaida Essence Hall were three of four queens that lasted until the end of a season taped prior to the Covid-19 pandemic stay-at-home orders. The fourth queen, Sherry Pie, was notoriously disqualified from taking her earned spot in the grand finale after admitting to catfishing allegations prior to the airing of the season.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Friday’s finale of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”)
“RuPaul’s Drag Race” crowned its Season 12 winner on Friday, capping off the season with a remotely filmed finale.
Crystal Methyd, Gigi Goode and Jaida Essence Hall were the three finalists vying for prize and the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar in a series of at-home lip syncs, testing their ability to put on a show under any circumstances. The queens were challenged to prepare three performances: a close-up lip sync using just their faces, a solo in the homes where they’re quarantined, and a final lip sync for the crown.
Ultimately, Jaida Essence Hall came out on top, besting the other two queens with her final performance of Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor” and walking away as the winner of Season 12.

VH1 has released a two-minute sneak peek of tonight’s big event (8/7c), featuring the virtual arrivals of all 13 — oops, sorry, make that 12! — queens: Gigi Goode, Jaida Essence Hall, Jackie Cox, Heidi N Closet, Widow Von’Du, Jan, Brita, Aiden Zhane, Nicky Doll, Rock M. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 12 will finish on Friday, May 29 at 8:00 p.m. Et/Pt as planned but without all of the finalists. We saw Sherry Pie make it to the final four at the end of episode 12, “Viva Drag Vegas.” While that episode aired on May 15, it was taped last summer. That was months before Sherry Pie she was disqualified when she copped to catfishing. As for who will be strutting their stuff, keep reading for “Drag Race” 12 finale spoilers.
Over the course of the first 12 episodes, Gigi Goode racked up four wins in episodes 4, 6,7 and 12 while Jaida Essence Hall was right behind her with three. The third, finalist, Crystal Methyd, chalked up her only victory of the season in episode 11.

For four glorious weeks in April and May, Fridays on VH1 belonged to “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” First, viewers could watch the 90-minute episodes of the Emmy-winning reality show’s 12th season, in which 13 drag queens compete to be crowned “America’s next drag superstar.” Then they could take in a 90-minute episode of the four-part special “RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race,” in which three bold-faced names stepped into the show’s workroom for full drag makeovers and the chance to win $30,000 for the charity of their choice. And then fans could stick around for “RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked,” the 30-minute aftershow in which the Season 12 queens dish, bitch, and throw copious shade while they wait for the main show’s judges to deliberate on who should win that week, and who should be told to sashay away.

Another grand finale of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is upon us, where the last four queens battle it out for a spot in the coveted Hall of Fame. This year’s quartet of finalists are Gigi Goode, Jaida Essence Hall, Crystal Methyd and … no one. That’s right, there are only three queens remaining in the competition for Season 12 thanks to Sherry Pie being disqualified after admitting to catfishing and sexual misconduct. Since the finale is typically designed for four contestants — they lip sync against each other in pairs — should host RuPaul Charles invite back the fifth place contender, Jackie Cox, as you-know-who’s replacement? The Top 5 have to sing and dance their way into the finals. It's a tradition and rite of passage that many past queens have experienced. Sometimes it's a non-elimination round, while other times the final queen got chopped.
During RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 Episode 12, it was a medley of performance numbers from RuPaul's Drag Race Live! And yes, a queen did get eliminated.
The bright shining lights of Las Vegas didn't save a queen from elimination (or grant them the vacated spot after Sherry Pie's disqualification).
There was a lot of uncertainty about how RuPaul's Drag Race would handle the transition from the taped episodes to the current finale stretch. We knew that Sherry had been disqualified by the airing of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 Episode 1, but as she made it farther into the competition, it seemed obvious she made the finals during the taped portion.

The “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 12 finale will air on Friday, May 29 as planned. But due to the coronavirus pandemic the four finalists won’t be facing off in person. Rather, they will compete from home to be America’s Next Drag Superstar. The line-up is still being finalized.
We do know that Sherry Pie made it to the final four during the episodes taped last summer. But she was disqualified soon after the show started airing this winter when she copped to catfishing. As for who will be strutting their stuff, keep reading for “RuPaul’s Drag Race” spoilers for the season 12 finale.

As the 12th season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” draws to a close, the final five reflected on their “report cards” as they eyed their own chances of advancing to the final. Although she was in the bottom two last week, Jaida Essence Hall has the best recent scores with two of her three wins coming just two weeks before. She’s tied with Gigi Goode, also with three total wins from the middle of the season, and followed by Sherry Pie who hit a plateau of safety after two wins in the beginning of the season. Last week Crystal Methyd earned her first win, leaving Jackie Cox at the back of the pack with five top scores but no overall wins.

Between the absence of the traditional “Ru-mix” and the results of that extremely close lip-sync battle, we’re officially filing Friday’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race under “polarizing.”
Following Gigi Goode’s victory in the mini challenge, she and the other remaining queens — Jaida Essence Hall, Crystal Methyd, Jackie Cox and Sherry Pie — learned that, instead of putting their individual spins on a RuPaul jam, they’d be performing a medley of numbers from RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” like many other reality shows this season, is going virtual amid the coronavirus pandemic.
VH1 ru-vealed on Friday that both “Drag Race’s” reunion episode on May 22 and the Season 12 finale on May 29 have been shot virtually.
In previous seasons, the finale was filmed in front of a live audience, and since Season 9 has involved the final four queens facing off in a series of lip-sync battles until RuPaul crowns the ultimate winner. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Season 12 finale was shot using “innovative technology that highlights the creatively of the queens,” according to a release.
The episode will still follow the lip-sync battle format with the finalists, who are expected to be determined on tonight’s episode of the show. The reunion episode will feature 12 contestants, rather than all 13 who participated in the season.
The missing queen is almost certainly Sherry Pie. The contestant, whose non-drag name is Joey Gugliemelli,...

Sherry Pie is still in contention to win season 12 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” She made herself the center of attention on episode 11, “One-Queen Show,” which aired on May 8. Her “Bubbles and Sherry” routine ran super-long. Sherry was supposed to be onstage for just five minutes but took a whopping 17 minute to tell her unfunny story.
This was clearly unfair to Jaida Essence Hall, who was left waiting in the wings. After cooling her heels for so long Jaida did not warm up when she finally got to tell her tale, “The Pee in Pageant.” Despite coming off back-to-back victories, Jaida ended up in the bottom two and barely escaped elimination. In the end, Heidi N Closet lost the lip sync smackdown and was sent packing by RuPaul Charles.

Because of Sherry Pie‘s off-camera behavior, including sexual misconduct allegations, this 27-year-old New York queen has been a controversial figure all season long on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” (She’s already been disqualified from winning.) During Friday’s 11th episode, a wholly new controversy erupted at the judges’ table when Michelle Visage and Ross Mathews clashed over Sherry’s performance in the main challenge. To recap, the six remaining queens were tasked with creating one-woman shows that lasted five minutes each. Sherry lost track of time and went on for a whopping 17 minutes, resulting in Michelle calling her “selfish.”

Comedy is tougher than it looks! Even if you're naturally funny like Crystal Methyd or Heidi Afrodite, creating a well-designed comedy show that brings the laughs takes a lot of work.
The queens put their planning and improv skills to the test in their one-woman show on RuPaul's Drag Race Season 12 Episode 11. Most of the queens delivered a laugh riot while others hit major bumps along the way.
It's a shame that a comedy challenge took out the funniest queen of the competition. However, these things happen on the road to the crown.
The return of the "Everyone Loves Puppets!' Mini Challenge was a welcomed surprise. The iconic game hasn't appeared since RuPaul's Drag Race Season 9 and seemingly took a break for two years; it's been sorely missed and should never go away.
The queens did an admirable job of shading the others with their puppets.

When RuPaul Charles dished out the “double shantay” to Heidi N Closet and Jackie Cox in last week’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” it meant that there would be no more second chances for any of the final six in their race to become America’s next drag superstar. The moment was the culmination of Heidi’s third and Jackie’s second time lip synching for their lives, while Jaida Essence Hall had won her third maxi challenge overall without ever appearing in the bottom.
Were Heidi and Jackie able to redeem themselves when Ru challenged them to create and perform a 5-minute “one-queen show” for a live audience? Or did Jaida, Gigi Goode, Crystal Methyd and Sherry Pie remain the frontrunners and each avoid the Lsfyl for another week?

Season 12 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” launched February 28, 2020 on VH1 with a special two-part premiere. Nobody sashayed away in either of the first two episodes, as they simply served to introduce the 13 new queens to the audience. Before her debut, producers made the shocking announcement that Sherry Pie had been disqualified because of her off-camera behavior, so she became the first unofficial boot for “Drag Race” 2020. If you’re looking for Season 12 spoilers on the elimination order so far, you’ve come to the right place. Tour our photos below to see the updated “RuPaul’s Drag Race” bootlist.

Friday’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race tasked the remaining six queens with writing and performing their own one-woman shows, a dicey endeavor that ended with one woman being shown the door.
And this certainly proved to be an evening of surprises, in that some of the most successful routines came from unlikely sources, while everyone you expected to crush the challenge ended up crashing and burning. For several weeks, Gigi Goode has been the front-runner to win “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 12 thanks to her triple crown of challenge wins. “There is a light at the end of the tunnel,” Gigi Goode says in this sneak peek from Friday’s Drag Race (VH1, 8/7c). To be fair, though, the queen doesn’t rule out the possibility that “it could be a train coming.”

As the field of candidates narrowed on season 12 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” it became readily apparent that soon a choice would need to be made. The field was down to the top 7 as RuPaul Charles asked the queens to take the podium and explain to the nation why they should be crowned “America’s first drag queen… President?”
That’s right! This week it wasn’t about becoming a superstar, but instead the leader of a nation. What issues, policies and platform heels would the queens focus on as they prepared to debate each other? With questions from moderators (and guest judges) Rachel Bloom and Jeff Goldblum, some girls find that their voice is for the people while others become their own worst enemy.

Who’d have expected that a mock presidential debate between seven drag queens would somehow be less outlandish and more civil than the actual debates we’ve watched on TV in recent years?
The remaining contestants got political on Friday’s Drag Race, transforming into presidential candidates and sashaying down the campaign trail. RuPaul and guest mentor Raven did their best to prepare the ladies for their bi-partisan brawl, from basically handing Heidi N. Closet the perfect slogan (again) to questioning why Widow Von’Du insists on sporting those “biscuit baskets” instead of rocking higher heels.

Sorry, Jeff Probst, but you may be left in the dust soon because RuPaul Charles is coming for the solo Best Reality Host Emmy record. Last year, RuPaul tied the “Survivor” host’s record of four wins for “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” and now he can extend that record to five — he just has to hope history doesn’t repeat.
Best Reality Host was established in 2008 (#neverforget that nightmare ceremony hosted by the five host nominees), and Probst promptly four-peated, but he has not been nominated since his last victory in 2011. Despite “Survivor,” the granddaddy of reality shows, still going strong in its 40th season, it seems unlikely that voters will have a change of heart after nine years and bring him back into the fray. But who knows? These are weird times; maybe voters are totally digging “Winners at War” in quarantine.
Like Probst, RuPaul has also four-peated with a perfect 4-for-4 record,...

After seven episodes of season 12 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and three trips into the bottom two to lip sync for her life, New York’s Brita had to sashay away. She succumbed to the pressure in the Madonna singing and dancing challenge, and was defeated by Heidi N Closet in their battle to “Burning Up.” In that same challenge, Brita’s friend Jan, a trained singer and dancer, thought she’d finally be crowned the challenge winner, but instead of heartbroken to lose to Gigi Goode, who won her third.
With Gigi on a roll and Jan focused on finally coming out on top, did power shift when the queens tested their acting and comedy skills by selling over-the-top products as judged by star guest Chaka Khan?

With some competitions, the key is to go big or go home. But on RuPaul’s Drag Race, going too big can be the exact thing that sends you packing, as one queen learned the hard way on Friday.
Jan was emotional within the first few minutes of the episode, allegedly heartbroken over her Bff Brita’s elimination. (I say allegedly because several queens expressed their belief that Jan was crying “crocodile tears,” covering for the fact that she was actually upset about not winning the Madonna challenge. And who better than Sherry Pie to sniff out a faker?)

If you’re looking for a front-runner to win “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 12, look no further than Gigi Goode. After seven episodes, this 22-year-old queen from Los Angeles already has three challenge victories under her belt, which is more than the overall two wins for last year’s champion Yvie Oddly. Sure, there are still many weeks to go and any of the other eligible contestants can still pull out a win, but Gigi is off to a “goode” start, wouldn’t you agree?
Gigi’s three victories so far have come for “The Ball Ball” (sports looks challenge) in Episode 4, “Snatch Game” (celebrity impersonation challenge) in Episode 6 and “Madonna: The Unauthorized Rusical” (musical challenge) Episode 7. The only queen to come close to Gigi’s successful record has been Sherry Pie, who’s claimed two challenges as of this writing. However, Sherry was disqualified from winning the season because of her off-camera behavior.

Jan may not have won last week’s musical challenge, but the theatrical queen is still getting her moment in the spotlight. Friday’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1, 8/7c) kicks off with the remaining eight contestants reacting to Brita’s elimination — and Jan goes through it.
“I know how badly Brita wanted this,” Jan says through tears. “I see how much Brita tries, and it just sucks to see somebody that you care about have their dreams stripped away from them.”

Mandated quarantining may prevent RuPaul’s Drag Race from giving us a traditional live finale for Season 12, but however the results are announced, it’s become fairly clear which queen will get the crown.
Facts are facts, America — Gigi Goode is the obvious frontrunner. Let’s start by crunching the numbers: The Los Angeles-based queen has won three out of six challenges, more than any other contestant this season. And even when she didn’t win, she was almost always counted among the tops of the week.

Sherry Pie was disqualified from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” following multiple allegations of catfishing. These came to light only after filming of all but the final episode of season 12 was completed. That left producers with a problem. What to do with all that footage of Sherry Pie, who dominated the competition in dozen taped episodes.
Sherry Pie was a strong presence from her first appearance on season 12 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” in episode 2, “You Don’t Know Me.” The spotlight shone on Sherry throughout the show and she had most confessionals. In the end, she placed second to Jaida Essence Hall in the Lip Sync challenge after both tackled “Call Your Girlfriend” by Robyn.
That episode opened as have the others with the following on-screen statement: “In light of recent developments and Sherry Pie’s statement, Sherry Pie has been disqualified from ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race.’ Out of respect for the hard work of the other queens,...

With six episodes of season 12 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” tucked away and Aiden Zhane, the source of most of the tension so far, out of the way did the queens finally find a sense of harmony with one another? Not so fast! While Brita was on a high after winning another lip sync, fellow New Yorker Jan remained frustrated at having never been among the top performers and Heidi N Closet was still reeling from two-time challenge winner Gigi Goode telling her during “Untucked” that her makeup skills need more work.

Friday’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race raised the curtain on Madonna: The Unauthorized Rusical — and by the end of the night, it was curtains for one of the nine remaining queens.
Of course, the shenanigans began long before the contestants hit the runway, beginning with Brita’s clumsy attempt to sweep her feud with Aiden Zhane under the rug. After reading Aiden’s mirror message to the other girls, Brita remarked, “I love Aiden. She stuck with it. We’re only a third of the way through “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 12, but already a favorite to win the crown has emerged: Gigi Goode. So far this 22-year-old queen from Los Angeles has won two challenges and received high marks in two others, a record that is only matched by She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. If the grand finale was filmed today, Gold Derby readers believe that Gigi would be named the winner by host RuPaul Charles.
Gigi currently has leading 5/2 odds to win the season, with her closest competitors being Jackie Cox (82/25 odds), Jaida Essence Hall (4/1 odds) and Widow Von’Du (6/1 odds). The “Drag Race” Hall of Fame is already home to such iconic champions as Bianca Del Rio (Season 6), Trixie Mattel (All Stars 3) and Yvie Oddly (Season 11), and Gigi is definitely “goode” enough to join them.

With Aiden Zhane out of the game, her feud with Brita has been squashed (for now), but there’s still plenty of drama in the RuPaul’s Drag Race workroom this Friday (VH1, 8/7c).
As revealed in the preview clip above, the queens still have a few “unresolved issues” from last week’s Untucked, particularly Heidi N. Closet and Widow Von’Du feeling like some of the queens went too far with their unsolicited, hurtful critiques. “You’re going to have to call me the umpire, because I’m about to call these bitches out,” Heidi tells the cameras.

Two of your favorite reality TV shows were hit with controversies recently, but the way the networks handled them were vastly different. On “Survivor” Season 39, a castaway named Dan Spilo was removed from CBS’s long-running competition series due to repeated instances of inappropriate touching. On “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 12, a queen known as Sherry Pie was disqualified from winning when VH1 discovered after the fact that she was a catfish who engaged in sexual misconduct.
In the case of “Survivor,” Dan’s story was still told from beginning to end when it aired last fall, up until the moment he was kicked to the curb off-camera. But on “Drag Race,” which is currently airing on Friday nights, Sherry Pie has been essentially edited out of every challenge, work room discussion and private one-on-one confessional. Why the different approaches?
