The K-drama world has been taken by the storm that is Netflix’s My Demon. The show is the perfect blend of old-school fantasy tropes and modern K-drama trends, making it exactly right for both old fans and new ones. Many called 2023 the year of K-drama redemption thanks to shows like My Demon, which are loved by all. I suppose it is true in some ways because many who had stopped watching Korean dramas started watching them again because of a sense of nostalgia and fun that the new shows brought with them. Netflix has in many ways hijacked the industry, and for the most part, they have a specific type of K-dramas that work on the platform; however, in 2023, we’ve seen them bring in more and more shows in the Netflix original category that venture into the typical K-drama atmosphere. My Demon is reminiscent of the old fantasy...

Netflix’s My Demon is the talk of the town this winter season. The fantasy drama stars two huge names, Song Kang and Kim Yoo-Jung, in the leading roles of a 200-year-old demon and the human he falls in love with. From expensive luxury outfits to lavish localities and the visuals of the leading couple, the show screams “popular schoolkid.” Seeing as the show is the season’s biggest trend, fans are waiting with bated breath for the next episode. Unfortunately, the K-drama has been postponed by a week by Sbs as the network plans on airing the year-end drama award show, “2023 Sbs Drama Awards,” this weekend. Of course, this has left fans devastated, as it’s already a struggle waiting for weekly episodes. Now we meet our favorite demon and his wife in the new year on the 5th and 6th of January.

Following the story of a wealthy man in 1945, Netflix’s Gyeongseong Creature is a period drama that combines history with horror and brings about an intriguing show that poses questions about humanity and the perils of survival in a monster-infested world. South Korea has been well known for making some incredible thrillers over the years, and Gyeongseong Creature does not disappoint on that front either. Although it’s a plot that is rather predictable, there are a lot of thrills to keep one occupied. The show is also set in Japan-occupied Korea, a dark time for the country, and does a decent job of representing the time period. Whether you’re looking for something historical or monstrous, this list will serve you well.
Sweet Home
The most obvious choice when it comes to a double feature with Gyeongseong Creature would be Sweet Home, the TV show about a virus that turns humans into monsters.

Rowoon announced his exit in September from his boy group SF9 to focus on individual activities, including acting, and what followed was his rise as a true blue K-drama star. Song Kang is on a mission to prove that he can do it all in one month. Although you can say his roles in Sweet Home and My Demon both have a gray quality to them, they’re obviously drastically different in all other aspects. In My Demon, we get to see a more goofy and comical side to him that we haven’t seen before, and surely we must rejoice because of these fashion choices and the fact that he’s actually presentable (Hyun-Su could never). In the first two episodes of My Demon, it was established that even though Gu-Won is an actual demon, Do Do-Hee is as demonic in her human form. By the end of episode 1, when Gu-Won tries to save Do-Hee from a man who is desperate to kill her, a twist of fate leads to a tattoo on his wrist (which holds all his...

The show is certainly at the top of the list of the best K-dramas for many, and for good reason. My Demon is turning out to be quite funny and has some surprisingly real moments in its absurd plot. That is a very common K-drama trait as it is, but this show is looking to be more interesting than the description made it out to be. Additionally, we all love a good old-fashioned enemies-to-lovers K-drama with a simple plot and lots of swoon-worthy moments (King the Land being the biggest example of the year). It doesn’t hurt that the show doesn’t hesitate to have entire scenes of just Song Kang and Kim You-Jung’s perfect faces, and the fashion is, as always, impeccable. It’s nice to see a rich female lead for once (I’m glad that’s changing). Episode 1 of My Demon ended with Gu-Won and Do-Hee drowning but later waking up on a beach somewhere. That’s when Gu-Won realizes the cross on his hand is now on Do-Hee’s,...

My Demon is a fantasy romance K-drama created by Choi Ah-il. The Netflix series revolves around a workaholic CEO, who thinks that she has no time for romantic entanglement in her life but when a demon loses his powers and comes to work for her as a new recruit, things change and they both fall in love with each other.
The fantasy K-drama is going to be filled with cute and melodramatic moments just like all of the other K-dramas we love and because of its fantasy element, it seems similar to other K-dramas like Doom at Your Service and Tale of the Nine Tailed.

Netflix has its A-game on when it comes to Korean dramas, as it releases a new fantastic show, or at least, an addicting one, on a weekly basis. Recently, we’ve had some gems like Doona, Castaway Diva, and A Time Called You that have been loved by audiences and critics alike. Now, it’s finally time for the highly anticipated Song Kang and Kim You-Jung-starring K-drama My Demon to have us on our knees begging for mercy. Alright, this is a very unserious statement, but everyone’s just so excited to be taken in by this girlboss-demon combination that we can’t help but imagine it’s going to be a super hit even if it manages to bring nothing new to the table. People are already screaming about the “face cards” these two very attractive actors are bringing to the show, which is reason enough to give it a go.

Before we even get into the film review, we can agree on one thing – Song Kang-ho can play anything, from demanding film roles to a house plant standing in a corner, waiting to be watered. This still doesn’t quite explain the main Cannes jury’s decision to award him Best Actor award in this year’s admittedly not so strong main competition, that nevertheless had far more better male roles to consider for this prestigious prize. Let’s just briefly mention Park Chan-Wooks’s breath-taking drama “Decision to Leave”, probably one of the most quotable films of the competition which stars Park Hae-Li, an actor so integrated in his role of a detective who strays into a fatal relationship that costs him everything he holds dear in life, that you wished to dive into the screen to offer him comfort. This would have been...
