Pulp kicked off their long-awaited 2023 “This is What We Do For an Encore Tour” at the Bridlington Spa in Bridlington, England on May 26th. The newly-reunited Britpop icons played a set full of fan favorites and deep cuts, marking their first show in a decade: “We are Pulp — I’ve not said that for quite a long time,” vocalist Jarvis Cocker greeted the packed crowd.
Cocker and company tore through the majority of their 1995 masterpiece Different Class, opening with “I Spy” and saving their smash “Common People” until their first of two encores. The set also included some highlights from 1994’s His N Hers like “Do You Remember the First Time?” and “Babies”; deeper cuts like “Weeds” and “Glory Days”; and their 2013 single “After You.”
“An encore happens when the crowd makes enough noise to bring the band back to the stage,” the band said in a statement announcing the reunion last October.

Roger Waters is reportedly under criminal investigation by German police for “suspected incitement” following his concerts in Berlin on May 17th and 18th.
As Stereogum points out, Waters came under fire for wearing a uniform of a leather jacket, gloves, armband, and rifle that appeared to resemble that of a Nazi SS soldier. His stage design also featured an inflatable pig covered in Third Reich-esque imagery and a Star of David, a prop Waters has been using since 2010. Per The Jerusalem Post, Waters began the show with a message on a screen announcing: “I condemn antisemitism unreservedly.”
“The context of the clothing worn is deemed capable of approving, glorifying or justifying the violent and arbitrary rule of the Nazi regime in a manner that violates the dignity of the victims and thereby disrupts public peace,” police chief inspector Martin Halweg told the Jewish News. “After the conclusion of the investigation,...

Daft Punk are getting lucky again: The French duo’s fourth and final studio album Random Access Memories has returned to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and now sits at No. 8 on the all-genre Billboard 200.
Per Luminate, Random Access Memories saw a 1,046% spike in equivalent album units in the US, in the week ending May 18th. The revived buzz comes thanks to Daft Punk’s new 10th anniversary edition of the album, which has now spent a grand total of 22 weeks at No. 1 including its original stint on the chart in 2013. Billboard adds that since 2001, only six albums have spent more time at No. 1 on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart — with the gold medal going to Lady Gaga’s 2008 album The Fame, with 175 weeks at the top.
The re-released edition of Random Access Memories includes nine previously unreleased tracks, including “Infinity Repeating (2013 Demo)” with Julian Casablancas + The Voidz,...

There’s three things you can usually expect to see in a Quentin Tarantino film: Fire, guns, and feet. But the alleged podophile has to make it all feel natural — which is why he apparently told Margot Robbie not to wash her feet during her sole-heavy scene in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood.
In the 2019 flick, set in ’60s Los Angeles, Robbie plays a fictionalized version of the late actress Sharon Tate just as her career is taking off. She stops by the theater to see herself in the real-life movie The Wrecking Crew, gleefully kicking off her go-go boots and propping her feet up on the chair in front of her — dirt and all.
Speaking about her most memorable looks in a new Vogue video interview, Robbie explained that although taking off her boots was always in the script, the dirty feet was a spur-of-the-moment decision from Tarantino...

Foo Fighters are counting down the days until their new album But Here We Are. Before it’s out on June 2nd, they’ve shared another single called “Show Me How,” which features guest vocals from Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet Grohl.
“Show Me How” kicks off with a cacophony of roaring, shoegazey guitars, bolstered by fast-paced, rattling drums. Those elements are juxtaposed with Dave Grohl’s surprisingly gentle vocals; Violet joins him in unison for almost the entirety of the song, until she splits off into a pleasant harmony near the song’s end. The younger Grohl has flaunted her pipes plenty times before, but it’s nice to hear the duo together in-studio.
Lyrically, “Show Me How” appears to grapple with loss — a theme that carries an especially heavy weight in light of Taylor Hawkins’ death: “Where are you now?/ Who will show me how?” the Grohls sing.

Brandi Carlile has shared her contribution to the Season 3 soundtrack of Ted Lasso. Out now, it’s a rendition of “Home,” made famous by Diana Ross in the 1978 film The Wiz.
Carlile’s version of “Home” appears in the penultimate episode of Season 3 of Ted Lasso, and like Dorothy in The Wiz, Ted is a far way from home. Nobody can quite match Ross’ level of soul in the original performance of the song, but Carlile adds a nice twist by swapping out its sweeping orchestral arrangements for a folksier piano.
Carlile also produced the track herself at ShangriLa Studios, with a backing band composed of Matt Chamberlain on drums, Sebastian Steinberg on bass, Dave Palmer on piano and organ, and Chauntee and Monique Ross on strings (no relation). Listen to the cover of “Home” below.

Over half a century of recording and performing has possibly taken a physical toll on Paul Simon. The legendary Simon & Garfunkel musician revealed in a new interview with The Times that he’s lost almost all of his hearing in one ear, making a return to live performance more unlikely.
“Quite suddenly I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it,” Simon, who retired from touring in 2018, explained. “So everything became more difficult. My reaction to that was frustration and annoyance; not quite anger yet, because I thought it would pass, it would repair itself.”
Simon’s hearing hasn’t repaired itself — yet. But he doesn’t seem too broken up about it, maybe due to the fact that he sometimes gets sick of his own songs while he’s on the road: “The songs of mine that I don’t want to sing live,...

All of the specs and appointments are John 5-approved, including the custom neck profile with its 9.50-inch radius fingerboard and narrow tall frets, which provide increased playability.
Electronically, the guitar is equipped with medium-high gain Dimarzio D Activator humbucking pickups that are designed to replicate the sound of active pickups in a passive format. Tickets to Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” weren’t exactly cheap, but one Massachusetts fan had an idea to earn some of their money back. A Facebook Marketplace posting appears to have been advertising small containers filled with the rain water that pummeled Swift’s show at the Gillette Stadium last Saturday, for the low-low price of $250 a pop.
It’s unclear exactly how many batches this entrepreneurial Swiftie was selling — it looks like the Facebook Marketplace posting has since been taken down — but, as Page Six points out, the jars that held the holy water were obtained from a local weed dispensary called Happy Valley. So, it looks like there’s definitely some stoner-Swiftie crossover that Swift’s team needs to take into consideration for marketing future merchandise.
While some people were quick to dismiss the gimmick, others played into its hilarity: “Parking lot or stadium rain?” one Instagram user asked,...

Todd Haynes is cooking up his next film, which he’s described as “a gay love story set in 1930s LA.” And it looks like he’s found the right co-writer in Joaquin Phoenix, who Haynes said pushed him to “go further” with the script so it’d wind up with an Nc-17 rating.
“The next film is a feature that’s an original script that I developed with Joaquin Phoenix based on some thoughts and ideas he brought to me,” Haynes told IndieWire recently while at Cannes. “We basically wrote with him as a story writer. Me and Jon Raymond and Joaquin share the story credit. And we hope to be shooting it beginning early next year.”
“Joaquin was pushing me further and going ‘no, let’s go further,'” Haynes added. “This will be an Nc-17 film.”

Jeff Rosenstock is back with his first new music of the year by way of the rousing single “Liked U Better.” Along with it, the punk rocker has announced an extensive run of 2023 tour dates.
Recorded in summer 2022, “Liked U Better” is an adrenaline-fueled pop-punk ripper dedicated to anybody who just refuses to be forgotten, despite all your futile attempts to exile them from your memory. Whether that persona non grata is an ex-partner, a disagreeable coworker, or a less-than-ideal roommate, Rosenstock’s singalong chorus acts as a vehicle for taking out all that aggression.
“Thought of you again and I don’t wanna tell my friends/ Don’t wanna scare ‘em off and don’t wanna be judged,” Rosenstock laments, although that shame seems to dwindle by the time he belts the refrain: “I liked you better when you weren’t on my mind!”

As US users see their Netflix bills creep up, the streamer is taking an opposite approach in other markets across the globe. In an effort to bolster international subscriber growth, the stream is lowing its monthly price in more than 100 regions.
Per The Associated Press, beginning this week Middle East markets in Yemen, Jordan, Libya, and Iran; European countries such as Croatia, Slovenia, and Bulgaria, and sub-Saharan African markets are eligible for the lower price point. The exact range in savings is between 20% to 60% depending on the market.
Thanks to inflation, increasing competition, and the price of major hit series like The Crown and Stranger Things, Netflix has had to hunker down to keep itself afloat. In the US, the company is expected to tighten its rules on cross-household password sharing — a crackdown they’ve already tested in Latin America — after hiking subscription prices.

Blessings are imminent, because U.S. Girls — the indie pop project of Meg Remy — return today, February 24th with the new album Bless This Mess. It’s out via 4Ad.
Turns out, while Remy was working on the follow-up to U.S. Girls’ great 2020 album Heavy Light, she was also working on something else: Twin baby boys. With a title that seems to poke fun at maternally-targeted, mass-produced Hobby Lobby wall decor, Bless This Mess captures the extremes of Remy’s emotions as a first-time mom and the nuances of procreation.
The album was made with the help of a few notable guests, including Alex Frankel of Holy Ghost! and Roger Manning Jr. of Jellyfish and Beck. One of the album’s audio engineers was Remy’s frequent collaborator Maximilian Turnbull, who just so happens to also be her husband and co-parent. Many of the takes were recorded while Remy...

Depeche Mode served as the musical guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday night. The new wave icons performed their latest single “Ghosts Again,” a cut from their upcoming album, Memento Mori.
“Ghosts Again” carries an especially heavy weight considering it’s been only a year and a half since the passing of Depeche Mode’s founding keyboardist Andy Fletcher in June 2022. Although the band will never be the same without him, their appearance on Colbert serves as a fitting tribute that proves remaining members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore have no intention of stopping anytime soon.
Additionally, Depeche Mode also performed their classic song “Personal Jesus” for the Colbert audience, which they’ve now shared as a web exclusive. Watch them perform both songs below.

The National have shared the next page in their upcoming album First Two Pages of Frankenstein today with the new single “New Order T-Shirt.”
“New Order T-Shirt” begins with a more traditional, folksy sound that might call to mind some of The National’s earlier works, gradually building into a passionate guitar ballad that evokes the intensity of memories shared with someone you miss dearly.
Frontman Matt Berninger brings these bittersweet themes to life with detailed vignettes: “How we wove through the cones walking home/ To the place on Atlantic you shared with your hilarious sister/ Kicking off your black flats, demolished and laughing/ I keep what I can of you.”
The band’s Aaron Dessner adds in a press release: “To me the line ‘I keep what I can of you’ means something about everyone I’ve ever known or loved. There’s a simplicity to ‘New Order T-Shirt...

Riot grrrl icons Bratmobile have today announced their first live show in over 20 years. The band join a legendary lineup at the upcoming Mosswood Meltdown festival in Oakland, California, on July 2nd.
The last time singer Allison Wolfe and drummer Molly Neuman performed together was on September 9th, 2002; for this reunion, they’ll be joined by guitarist Rose Melberg (of the pioneering indie pop group Tiger Trap), Audrey Marrs on keys, and Marty Key on bass.
“It’s been more than 20 years since our last tour, and life has changed and grown in many ways,” Wolfe and Neuman write in a press release. “In 2019, we got the original lineup back together to play a big birthday party for our band sister, Tobi Vail of Bikini Kill. After the show, we talked about playing again, but it wasn’t the right time, and then… 2020. Now we are both living in Los Angeles,...

Hulu has today unveiled the official trailer for Boston Strangler, the upcoming Keira Knightley-starring true crime thriller from 20th Century Studios and writer/director Matt Ruskin. Also featuring Carrie Coon, Alessandro Nivola, and Chris Cooper, the film premieres on the streaming platform March 17th, 2023.
As a press release puts it, Boston Strangler “follows Loretta McLaughlin (Knightley), a reporter for the Record-American newspaper, who becomes the first journalist to connect the Boston Strangler murders. As the mysterious killer claims more and more victims, Loretta attempts to continue her investigation alongside colleague and confidante Jean Cole (Coon), yet the duo finds themselves stymied by the rampant sexism of the era. Nevertheless, McLaughlin and Cole bravely pursue the story at great personal risk, putting their own lives on the line in their quest to uncover the truth.”
In the trailer, Loretta’s suspicions about this string of 1960s murders are immediately dismissed...

Industrial metal veterans Fear Factory have revealed Milo Silvestro as their new singer, replacing founding frontman Burton C. Bell, who parted ways with the group back in 2020.
“It’s time to introduce the world to our new vocalist,” stated guitarist Dino Cazares in a press release. “The search was long and meticulous, but I know for sure we got the right guy.”
Silvestro added, “This is a huge opportunity for me. I’ve been a fan of the band for many years and it feels very surreal but I’m excited to be part of it. I know I have some massive shoes to fill but I’m here to do it in the best way possible and give justice to the vocal legacy of this legendary band.”
The revelation comes just a few days before Fear Factory embark on a North American tour with Static-x. The outing launches this...

Liam Neeson has such an impressive resume of iconic action roles to his name that it’s pretty surprising he’s never been 007. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, however, the actor revealed exactly why he never played James Bond: Because Natasha Richardson told him she’d refuse to marry him if he did.
Before the role eventually went to Pierce Brosnan, Neeson was the frontrunner to play Bond in 1995’s GoldenEye; at the time, he was a relatively new star thanks to Schindler’s List, and he was preparing to tie the knot with Richardson (who tragically died in 2009). GoldenEye was also the first Bond film to be produced by Barbara Broccoli, following her father Albert R. Broccoli, and she knew exactly who she wanted as her leading man.
“I was not offered James Bond,” Neeson politely corrected Rolling Stone’s Marlow Stern. “Barbara had called me a couple...

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne appear in a new commercial for the Playstation VR2 virtual reality game Horizon Call of the Mountain.
The humorous ad plays out like a scene from The Osbournes — bleeped-out profanity and all. Ozzy and Sharon are supposed to be getting ready for a flight to England, but Ozzy becomes transfixed by the virtual reality game.
“Hang on Sharon, I want to plug in my PlayStation VR2,” he exclaims, while sporting a VR2 headset around his eyes. “I’m very technical these days.”
Ozzy playing a VR game is as entertaining as you’d expect. His reactions to Horizon‘s massive mecha-creature battles (“What the fuck was that?!”) and combat mechanics (“Just let me kill these fucking dino machines”) come off as genuine as he dons the VR2 from the comfort of his couch.
At one point he screams in agony, prompting Sharon to check in: “Ozzy,...

Last year, skate legend Tony Hawk acquired a skateboard that was hand-painted in 1985 by late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who adorned the deck with the artwork from the Iron Maiden album Killers.
Hawk then went through the process of authenticating the “unicorn” skateboard — a Sims Jeff Phillips model — working with the deck’s prior owner Cameron Ross and Birdhouse Skateboard’s Derek Richardson to properly understand the origins of the deck.
As Ross explained in a new video posted to Hawk’s social pages, when he was in junior high school, he gave Cobain $20 and a “chunk of weed” to paint the Iron Maiden artwork on the skate deck. Kurt’s sister Kim also appears in the new video clip.
With that taken care of, Hawk and Birdhouse have just released replicas of the deck, as well as prints and stickers of the design, with proceeds going toward raising awareness...

It looks like we won’t be getting that feature-length Gorillaz movie after all. Damon Albarn has said that the project “will never happen” due to recent budget cuts at its intended streaming home, Netflix.
Albarn first revealed back in 2020 that Gorillaz had “signed contracts” and “written scripts” for an untitled movie about the virtual band. However, Netflix has made some major cutbacks in their animation department in the past year or so, including mass layoffs and cancelations of popular shows.
Albarn implied in a new interview with the Belgian publication Humo that Gorillaz, too, had been subjected to Netflix’s axe: “The new record [Cracker Island] came about because Jamie [Hewlett, Gorillaz co-creator] and I were often in Los Angeles,” Albarn said, translated from Dutch via Stereogum. We were working on a Gorillaz feature film, which will never happen.”
The interviewer then asked Albarn if the film had been “permanently suspended.” “Yes,” he went on.

One thing’s for sure about Matty Healy and Yungblud, they’re both gonna tell it like it is… or, at least in some cases, like they think it is. After The 1975 frontman made some eyebrow-raising comments during a recent appearance on the podcast The Adam Friedland Show, his fellow outspoken Brit chimed in by calling him a “privileged white dude.” Healy apparently came ready to fight, appearing to mock Yungblud in response on his Instagram story.
On the podcast’s February 9th episode, after host Friedland led its first few minutes with some expectedly misogynistic and transphobic remarks, Healy segued to the topic of queerbaiting: “Did you see that P!nk’s getting canceled for looking like a lesbian for her career and now that’s being regarded as queerbaiting?” he said. “Loads of 18-year-olds are being like, ‘She’s done irreparable damage to the lesbian community.”
This prompted...

It’s not easy being King, and Adele and Ed Sheeran sure aren’t making it any easier: The two singers have reportedly declined King Charles III’s invitations to perform at an upcoming concert in celebration of his coronation.
Ok! reports that King Charles had specifically wanted the duo to perform at the concert, which is scheduled for May 7th, the day after he officially takes over for the late Queen Elizabeth III. Sheeran chalked his absence up to scheduling conflicts, noting that he has a concert in Texas the day before and it would be difficult to make it back to England in time. Adele, however, didn’t offer an explanation, and she doesn’t have any live performances scheduled after March 25th.
“The King has suggested a number of people he would like to perform and Adele and Ed were on that list,” an organizer of the coronation event said.

In the past, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest had something of a rivalry, but in recent years the legendary UK metal acts have expressed a mutual respect for one another. Now, Priest frontman Rob Halford is hoping that Maiden follow the footsteps of his band by finally being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Priest were inducted into the Rock Hall last year via the Musical Excellence Award. Maiden are up for induction this year, along with other nominees such as Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, and more.
In a new interview with Metal Hammer, Halford said, “Iron Maiden’s nomination is absolutely overdue. I vote for them every day; you can do it by phone and it’s dead easy. It takes you to the list of nominees, then you pick the bands you are voting for – and I pick Maiden every single day.”
