Sophie Ansel is most known in the VR world as a director and producer for conservation VR Films: Out of the Blue, World Premiere at SXSW 2017 @The Virtual Cinema ( an Oculus VR For Good project) narrated by World reknown oceanographer Sylvia Earle. "Guardians of the Kingdom" also narrated by Sylvia Earle and produced by Vulcan productions. This film was released in 2019 and is a story about the link between the Humpback whales of the Kingdom of Tonga and the local community.
Storyteller and adventurer delivering stories through the medium of film, Virtual Reality, journalism, books and novels, radio and documentaries, Sophie has a deep love for exploring different cultures. Human rights & environmentalist advocate, her many experiences in places all over the world have led her to discover values of courage, solidarity, and nobleness in people deprived of power and of voice, yet armed with incredible resilience and will to survive.
Sophie has investigated issues such as human trafficking & slavery in South East Asia and has campaigned & denounced the genocide of the Rohingya in Burma within French media coverage since 2012. To denounce the atrocities of human trafficking and boat slavery, authority corruption and human rights violations against refugees, Sophie wrote graphic novel "Burmese Moons" published in 2019 by IDW publishing in USA ( originally in french by Delcourt editions), and wrote the life story of Rohingya activist Habiburahman : "First they erased our name - a Rohingya speaks" published in India, Australia, USA, Canada, UK by australian publisher Scribe ( Originally in french with Editions de la martiniere)
She previously wrote 'Nous les innommables, un tabou birman', tan exploration of the genocide taking place against the Rohingya people, after following the journey of a Rohingya activist and his community for six years from Burma up until to the detention centres of Australia. Sophie has also written 'Forbidden Tears' ('Les Larmes interdites', Plon Editions ), the true story of a 4yr-old girl forced into resilience during Pol Pot genocide.
Sophie birthed a great concern for the environment as a result of seeing the destructive activities of humans on the natural landscape as she explored oceans and tropical rainforest.
After directing TV reports for the French Television in Indonesia, Burma, Cambodia and Thailand, Sophie co-produced with Seaview 360 a series of VR films for the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. She also worked as a field producer and camera operator on the 'Chasing Coral' documentary.
Sophie also has worked as a VR film mentor for journalists in Tunisia VR with the European Commission. She also worked with the Belgium government to create tutorials about the Rohingya history and how social media had a huge influence through the genocide of the Rohingya.
