Time magazine named Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky as its person of the year on Wednesday.
The reveal was made on NBC’s Today program as Time Editor-in-Chief Edward Felsenthal said Zelensky had kept Ukraine in the news over the last year amid an invasion by Russian forces beginning in February 2022.
“Whether one looks at this story of Ukraine with a sense of hope or a sense of fear, and the story is, of course, not fully written yet … Zelensky has really galvanized the world in a way we haven’t seen in decades,” Felsenthal said on Today.
The magazine head added Zelensky has skillfully made daily speeches and used social media to rally international governments and companies to pull out of Russia and support Ukraine: “He’s kept the eyes of the world on this story.”

Time has selected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “and the spirit of Ukraine” as its Person of the Year.
“This year’s choice was the most clear-cut in memory,” the magazine’s editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal wrote. “Whether the battle for Ukraine fills one with hope or with fear, Volodymyr Zelensky galvanized the world in a way we haven’t seen in decades.”
“Zelensky has been laser-focused on keeping the world’s eyes on Ukraine,” he wrote. “The former entertainer understood innately that attention is the planet’s most valuable currency and all but cornered the global market. He did this through meticulous image-building and repetition in his message. He was blunt, sometimes sarcastic, and always directly to the point: we must save Ukraine to save democracy.”

“The temptation of a gathering like this, especially after so much time apart, is to reconnect with the people we know and have missed,” Time editor-in-chief and CEO Edward Felsenthal said during his remarks at the Jazz at Lincoln Center. “The opportunity of a gathering like this is to connect with people we’ve never known, never met in fields we can hardly fathom and figure out what we can do together. Elon Musk's latest achievement is out of this world. The world's richest person and Tesla CEO has been chosen as Time's 2021 Person of the Year, the publication announced on Monday, Dec. 13. "Person of the Year is a marker of influence," the magazine's editor-in-chief, Edward Felsenthal, wrote. Time has named entrepreneur Elon Musk as its Person of the Year, selecting him for “creating solutions to an existential crisis, for embodying the possibilities and the perils of the age of tech titans, for driving society’s most daring and disruptive transformations.”
The publication put their selection of Musk in line with the choice of Jeff Bezos in 1999 and Mark Zuckerberg in 2010, when their respective companies, Amazon and Facebook, were starting to have an impact.
“We don’t yet know how fully Tesla, SpaceX and the ventures Musk has yet to think up will change our lives. At 50, he has plenty of time to write the future, his own and ours. Like it or not, we are now in Musk’s world,” Time editor in chief Edward Felsenthal wrote. Musk is the richest person in the world, according to Forbes.

Fox News’ Tucker Carlson was named to Time’s 100 Most Influential People list Wednesday.
Time senior correspondent Charlotte Alter wrote his biographical blurb: “Love him or hate him, Tucker Carlson may be the most powerful conservative in America. With roughly 3 million viewers every night, ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ is the top-rated show in cable-news history.”
She went on, “As Republicans have lost nearly all their political power on the federal level, Carlson has emerged as the de facto cultural leader of the right. His diatribes against ‘the elites,’ the federal government and the scientific consensus shape the belief system of millions. If it seems like Americans can’t agree on anything—including whether Covid-19 vaccines work and whether Joe Biden won the presidential election—that’s partly the evidence of Tucker Carlson’s influence.”
Carlson does draw millions of viewers each night, breaking ratings records with his primetime program on Fox News.

Jolie is famously a mom to six: Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 13, Vivienne and Knox, both 11. Maddox was...

There is persona and there is reality in Greta Thunberg. It is Valentine’s Day in her hometown of Stockholm, but there’s only wind, no hearts and flowers. A few hundred kids mill about, with a smattering of adults. If there were not signs reading “Our Earth, We Only Have One,” it could be mistaken for a field trip to the Abba museum.

Davos, Switzerland — The World Economic Forum is set in the picturesque Swiss town of Davos, nestled in the Alps. But the first thing you smell is not the crisp cool mountain air but the noxious fumes of an endless stream of belching black Mercedes driving the plutocrats to their appointed places to discuss inequality amid a badge-access-system that is about as egalitarian as the ancient Indian caste system.

While fake news has become one of the biggest challenges facing journalism today, European reporters are twice as worried about it than their American counterparts according to a new poll by German ad agency Sweet Spot PR.
According to the poll, 31.58 percent of Nordic European countries cited “fake news” as the “biggest threat to journalism today,” while the phenomenon was cited by 22.76 percent journalists in the rest of Europe. In both groups, “fake news” was the plurality concern among a crowded field of issues.
In the United States, however, “fake news” wasn’t as worrisome of an issue and was cited by only 12 percent of reporters as their biggest concern. One in five reporters were concerned about staff cuts in newsrooms, while nearly 30 percent warned of the declining ad and print revenue.

Time magazine sidestepped both Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to name the watchdogs of the leaders Person of the Year.
Announced on NBC’s Today show this morning, the magazine’s 2018 Person of the Year is, collectively, The Guardians in the war on truth. The magazine specifically cited four journalists and one newspaper as “representative of a broader fight by countless others around the world.”

Time’s editor in chief, Edward Felsenthal, wrote in an essay about the choice, “Like all human gifts, courage comes to us at varying levels and at varying moments.
