French TV giant Banijay is losing its second C-suite exec in just over a month.
The company has confirmed to Variety that COO Peter Langenberg is departing, with his last day set to be March 31. Langenberg will remain with Banijay on a consultancy basis in the Esg space. Reasons for his departure were not disclosed.
“Banijay has been my home for eight years and it has been a total pleasure working with the hugely talented leaders and producers across the footprint globally. Together with Stéphane, Marco, and the broader executive team, I have watched the group grow exponentially and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of the business’ journey in becoming the largest European studio,” said Langenberg. “In that time, Esg has become increasingly important for both us as a business, and the content industry at-large, and I look forward to working with Edouard to drive tangible, positive change in this space.

Mumbai-based Banijay Asia has struck a deal with ITV Studios’ Armoza Formats to bring an official adaptation of the award-winning Canadian mini-series, “Vertige,” to screen.
The high-profile French-language show deconstructs the alleged suicide of a young girl, Daphne Roussel. Banijay Asia will reimagine the psychological thriller for the Indian audience.
With a remit focused on India and, increasingly Southeast Asia, Banijay Asia is a joint venture between Banijay, Stéphane Courbit’s TV production and distribution powerhouse behind “Survivor” and “Peaky Blinders,” and veteran producer Deepak Dhar.
The Banijay parent company this week announced that it is set to go public and launch on the Amsterdam stock exchange through a newly-created special purpose acquisition company or Spac.
Banijay Asia got off to a flying start four years ago with “Hostages” and “Survivor” and has quickly built a business that combines reformatted content from other parts of the Banijay empire and Indian originals.

Royal Rumble Over Brexit
Setting the record straight: Brexit is getting closer and it’s starting to become real for producers — sometimes in unexpected ways. Film producer Paul Webster was forced to set the record straight on Thursday following an online furor over the casting of Prince William in the upcoming Kristen Stewart-Princess Diana film Spencer, which is due to shoot in Germany early next year.
Why the fuss? A casting call for the role of William, aged 11, was posted by casting director Amy Hubbard on Twitter this week,...

Exclusive: Banijay, the world’s largest independent production company, has told staff that internal data was stolen after it was the victim of a cyber attack last week that could impact hundreds of current and former employees.
Deadline first revealed the hack on Monday and, in an email update last night, Banijay Rights CEO Cathy Payne told employees: “Unfortunately, we have now confirmed the attackers are in possession of some of our data following an online document share yesterday.”
Payne, who has been leading Banijay’s response to the incident alongside COO Peter Langenberg, added that no personal data was contained in the document dump. Deadline understands it was a small handful of materials containing relatively mundane information. Payne warned, however, that the company “cannot rule out that more data and documents are in the possession of those responsible for the cyber attack.”

Exclusive: It was October 2019 and, in this different world, French millionaire Stéphane Courbit had just realized a years-long ambition in seizing control of Endemol Shine Group. His plan was simple: combine his company Banijay with his new $2.2Bn asset to create a globe-straddling super producer. Sources at the time described it to us as a “patient pursuit,” but Banijay chairman Courbit would be forced to wait just a little bit longer to finally get his deal over the line.

As competition officials deliberated over the new entity’s potential market dominance, the two groups had to work through unprecedented times while remaining in something of a limbo.

Banijay Group’s $2.2Bn takeover of Endemol Shine Group has been cleared by European regulators.
The European Commission announced it had approved the merger in a brief notice on Wednesday. “The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns given the presence of a sufficient number of alternative players with portfolios of similar content in the countries concerned,” it said, per a translation.
Deadline first revealed that the European Commission would make a deliberation on the deal by the end of June. Securing clearance in Europe was the biggest antitrust hurdle Banijay needed to overcome to complete the Endemol Shine acquisition from Disney and Apollo Global Management, creating the largest independent production group in the world.
Banijay chairman Stéphane Courbit’s French holding company Lov Group will have control over Banijay and Endemol Shine once the deal is complete. Lov will oversee the combined entity, while French media conglomerate Vivendi,...

Exclusive: The European Commission is preparing to make a competition ruling on Banijay Group’s $2.2Bn takeover of Endemol Shine Group, setting a provisional date of June 30 for a decision.
Securing clearance in Europe is the biggest antitrust hurdle Banijay needs to overcome to complete the acquisition from Disney and Apollo Global Management, creating the largest independent production group in the world.
Banijay has always maintained that it is confident of getting the mega-deal past regulators, and June 30 will be a key date in realizing this ambition. Banijay had originally hoped that antitrust proceedings could be wrapped up in six months, but it is now eight months since the deal was first announced last October.
The European Commission will decide whether to prohibit or approve the takeover, but it is not the final stage of the competition proceedings. If it blocks the deal, it could propose remedies that could eventually lead to a green light,...

Banijay Group has launched Little Wonder, a shingle for unscripted fare to be headed by creative director Claire Morrison, who joins the new operation from ITV Studios production business Potato. Little Wonder will sit within one of Banijay’s existing U.K.-based producers, 7 Wonder, under CEO Alexandra Fraser. The new banner will work up factual, popular factual, fact-ent, and reality TV shows.
Banijay bought London- and Birmingham-based 7 Wonder earlier this year. It was previously backed by Australian broadcaster Seven, and it is now building its profile further with the Little Wonder offshoot.
“With a focus on popular factual outside of 7 Wonder’s traditional output, the new brand is set to complement the business’ slate, diversify its programming and take the label to even greater success and growth,” said Peter Langenberg, COO of Banijay Group.
Morrison was head of development at ITV’s Potato, working on shows including “Bear Grylls Survival School.

Germany’s two largest commercial broadcasters have ordered local versions of three big international formats, with Rtl ordering “All Together Now,” and ProSieben moving for “Masters of Dance” and “All Against 1.”
Talent show format “Masters of Dance” (pictured) comes from Israeli broadcaster Keshet. It is distributed by Keshet International, whose German production company Tresor will produce the local version. The format sees thousands of dancers audition to be in a troupe. Under the tutelage of a well-known choreographer, they then go head-to-head with another dance group.
ProSieben has not confirmed scheduling details, but will play the show in its primetime schedule. “’Masters of Dance’ for me is the most exciting dance-format worldwide.
