On May 31st, “America’s Got Talent” returned with a spectacular two hour premiere episode of its 17th season. Host Terry Crews welcomed series judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel back to the dais with performances from the first set of performance artists out of thousands that auditioned. Among those acts was JoJo Siwa and Jessalyn Siwa‘s youth girl group Xomg Pop with an effervescent song and dance number that left the judges excited for their future. Watch the full audition in the video above.
Before taking the stage, the girls of Xomg Pop told the cameras that they mean to follow in the footsteps of successful youth acts from the past that they idolize like Grace VanderWaal, Angelica Hale and Darci Lynne, as if the shoes of their co-founder JoJo aren’t already big enough. It’s that confidence and enthusiasm that inspired the judges...

Fledgling London-based sales agent The Mise En Scene Company, which launched at the 2020 American Film Market, sold the project into the indie distributor, which is known for Taika Waititi’s “Hunt for the Wilderpeople” and “What We Do in the Shadows.” A spring release is planned.
“American Reject,” directed by Marlo Hunter and produced by Full Armor Films, stars Kathleen Elizabeth Monteleone as Kay, a recent reject of America’s hottest singing competition, “Pop Star Now.” As she mourns her public elimination, she’s forced to participate in the network’s “After The Cut” filming, and is sent to her hometown to move back in with her mother and the simple life she left behind.

The superfans on “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” are a controversial bunch, and for good reason. At-home viewers are frustrated, maybe even a little jealous, that these delegates from all 50 states get to call the shots instead of them. (See how the voting process works.) Love ’em or hate ’em, the superfans are here to stay on “The Champions” as we approach the February 10 finale. But are they biased toward homegrown American acts, since they’re obviously already familiar with their stories? Or do the superfans deserve credit for voting for performers from all around the world? Let’s investigate.

Of the Top 50 acts from the first season, the superfans were only allowed to vote five of them into the finals. They were: close-up magician Shin Lim, comedian Preacher Lawson and singer Brian Justin Crum from “America’s Got Talent,” Cristina Ramos from...

Music icon Carole King wants everyone to know that she’s performing – along with Broadway’s Beautiful cast – as part of PBS’ traditional A Capitol Fourth event, and most definitely not as part of President Donald Trump’s “political rally.”
In a message pinned to the top of her Twitter page – with a little line drawing by New Yorker cartoonist Liza Donnelly – King writes, “Just to be clear – I am appearing in ‘A Capitol Fourth,’ the traditional event held annually on the lawn at the Capitol. I am Not participating in t’s political rally.”
The drawing’s foreground features King sitting at a piano on the lawn, with an American flag planted on the edge of the musical instrument. In the background, a tiny Trump figure – recognizable by his hair – is accompanied by a thought bubble reading “So far away,” a play on King’s classic hit song and...

“America’s Got Talent: The Champions” will crown its first-ever winner on February 18 from among the 12 finalists who competed on the show seen on NBC last Monday. While four of the top dozen acts in the final hail from other countries, we are certain that the winner, who was chosen by a select group of superfans, will be a veteran of “America’s Got Talent.” Among these eight alumni, the likeliest to take the title are the two most recent “Agt” champs: singing ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer and magician Shin Lim.

At the end of the evening is when host Nick Cannon will reveal who has won the first season of this “Agt” spin-off. Unlike the main show which is live, this special edition was taped. That meant that America did not get to vote for their favorites. Instead, producers turned to the superfans, a group of avid “Agt” viewers who were flown to Los Angeles from around the country to attend the tapings.
While you didn’t get to have a say in the winner, we still want to hear from you as to your pick...

Are you Team Terry Crews or Team Tyra Banks? Per Variety, NBC has announced that Crews will be the new host of Season 14 of “America’s Got Talent,” replacing Banks who opted not to return. While Crews is currently hosting spinoff series “America’s Got Talent: The Champions,” which airs its finale on February 18, Banks emceed the flagship “Agt” program for two seasons. In our poll below, let us know if you’re happy that Crews has been tapped as the new host of NBC’s long-running reality TV show.

The last time that singer Angelica Hale and ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer faced off was in the final of “America’s Got Talent” in the summer of 2017. Farmer won that battle and claimed the million dollar prize and a chance to headline a casino show.
The pair were pitted against each other again in the first season of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” They both competed on the final of this “Agt” spin-off, which aired on Feb. 11. Because this finale was taped last fall, it wasn’t possible to let America vote like it does during the live “Agt” shows each summer. Instead producers turned to a group of superfans that came from across the country to attend these tapings. They got to decide the winner of “Agt: The Champions.”

Are you as frustrated as us that you didn’t get to vote for the winner of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions”? Unlike “Agt,” this spin-off version was not live and was taped last fall. That meant America did not get to take part in picking the winner. Producers chose a group of viewers that they named the Superfans, who attended the tapings.

It was a shock when Darci Lynne Farmer, the singing ventriloquist who won “America’s Got Talent” in 2017, didn’t get put through to the final of “Agt: The Champions.” She auditioned on the second episode of this spin-off and earned a standing ovation for her routine with her puppet pal Oscar the mouse. While the four judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel — sang her praises, the superfans opted to put rock opera singer Cristina Ramos through to the final instead.
