Shihan Fé Blanca Fahim’s Influential is a restoring look behind the scenes of a revered influencer whose life, in reality, is nothing like the shiny perfection that comes through the screen. Shihan teamed up with writer and actor Melanie Field (Heathers | A League of Their Own), who also worked as a producer on the film, as they both felt inspired to create a project that dove into the much debated and often contentious issue of how much of our lives online is just for show. Influential takes us on a journey ranging from the outright laugh out loud, to cringeworthy relatable behaviours and a shocking, unexpected end which is so fitting for the themes explored within. Abbi Jacobson is calling out Amazon Prime Video over the cancellation of a shortened “A League of Their Own” Season 2.
The series’ star, co-creator, and executive producer took to Instagram to address the news that the slated final four episodes of “League” are no longer moving forward due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
“What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much. What a rare thing in life,” Jacobson captioned. “And so I am sad today. To blame this cancellation on the strike, is bullshit and cowardly. But this post isn’t about all that. About all the ways this show has been put through the ringer. Not today.”
The “Broad City” alum continued, “This post here is about the special show I was lucky to make with so many incredibly talented artists and actors and writers and crew.

The series was canceled alongside The Peripheral on Friday night, with many believing both were casualties of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
Abbi Jacobson, who plays Carson Shaw in the series, took to social media over the weekend after Prime Video rescinded the show's four-episode second season.
"What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much," she wrote.
"What a rare thing in life. And so I am sad today."
Jacobson addressed the rumors that the series was let go due to the dual strikes.

“A League of Their Own” co-creator and star Abbi Jacobson has reacted to the news that Amazon has scrapped Season 2 due to the ongoing strikes, calling the decision “bullshit and cowardly.”
On Friday, Variety confirmed that the series — based on the 1992 baseball film of the same name — would no longer be going forward with its shortened final season, which was greenlit in April. According to sources, the cancellation came about due to the writers and actors strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

Amazon is removing A League of Their Own from its scripted lineup.
The retail giant and streamer has reversed course and canceled the queer-themed reboot of Penny Marshall’s 1992 film after previously renewing the series for a four-episode second and final season. Sources say Sony Pictures Television, which produces the show, plans to shop League with the hopes that the series can find a new home for season two. Scripts for all four episodes of what was planned to be the conclusion of the series were completed before the Writers Guild of America went on strike May 2.
The decision to cancel the series from co-creators/showrunners Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson (who also starred) comes as Hollywood’s first dual strikes since the 1960s has brought production to a standstill. Graham and Jacobson fought to get the series a second season as Amazon and producers Sony Pictures Television negotiated to...

‘A League Of Their Own’ Canceled: Prime Video Not Proceeding With Second & Final Season Amid Strikes
Exclusive: Prime Video is not moving forward with the previously ordered second — and final — season of comedy-drama A League Of Their Own, co-created and starring Abbi Jacobson, Deadline has learned.
It joins fellow Prime Video/Amazon Studios hourlong freshman series The Peripheral, which also had its Season 2 renewal reversed.
As Deadline reported earlier today, both cancellations are believed to stem from the length of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have delayed TV production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.
In a story earlier this week, Deadline reported that there may be more series whose renewals could be rescinded or pending pickups not happen if the work stoppage stretches past Labor Day, with freshman series going into Season 2 the most vulnerable. There was a similar string of unrenewals during the pandemic.

Prime Video has canceled “The Peripheral,” despite the Chloë Grace Moretz-led sci-fi series receiving a renewal for a second season in February.
An individual with knowledge of the matter tells TheWrap that the cancelation stems from delays caused by the ongoing Writers’ Guild of America strike, which began on May 2, and SAG-AFTRA strike, which began on July 14. The individual noted that the series was originally intended to go into production this year for a release in 2024.
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by William Gibson, the series hailed from “Westworld” creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s Kilter Films banner, who are under an overall deal at Amazon Studios. “The Peripheral” follows Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Amazon Studios Television head Vernon Sanders suggested that the company would be open to continuing their “A League of Their Own” series, despite its recent decision to renew the show for an abbreviated four-episode second season.
“I’m one of those people that believes that if magic happens and we get a great response, this doesn’t necessarily have to be the end,” Sanders told TheWrap. “It will totally depend on how it performs and how the cast and creators all decide they want to revisit it if they do. So let’s hope we get that big audience.”
He emphasized that the studio “loved” the show and that the conversation about bringing it back was a “tough one.”

I didn’t think she was funny. Actually, I wasn’t setting out to play this comic role. As has been rumored, there will be no second full season for “A League of Their Own,” the Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham-created series based on the 1992 Penny Marshall comedy, as per The Hollywood Reporter. After a good deal of negotiation between Sony Pictures Television and Amazon, however, fans will get some “extra innings”—a four-episode wrap-up.
The show is set in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was created in the thick of World War II. The series has recruited 95-year-old Maybelle Blair as a consultant, and she has been active in promoting the project.
The series stars Jacobson, D’Arcy Carden, Chante Adams, Melanie Field, and Kate Berlant and is pointedly more focused on issues like racism and homophobia than the wacky Tom Hanks-led picture from the 1990s. As a result, we should expect a formal pickup when the deals are completed.
The road to renewal was reportedly complicated by renegotiations with Sony to lower the drama's licensing fee.
The cast also had to sign new deals because the season will be comprised of half the episodes of A League of Their Own Season 1.
While Amazon has not announced the pickup, it is set to be billed as a "limited series."

Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham’s “A League of Their Own” series on Amazon’s Prime Video will return for a shortened final season of four episodes, according to multiple reports.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon made the decision after months of negotiations that included a reduction of the show’s licensing fee by Sony, who owns the rights to the movie. The streaming arm of the retail and tech company sought to lower the budget and production costs for a second season. Even a movie was considered for the show’s conclusion, according to THR sources.
Co-creator of the show Will Graham tweeted in response to the reports, adding onto a thread he began earlier Tuesday morning.

“A League of Their Own” is getting another chance on the diamond, but the crew will only be playing a half-game. The Prime Video TV adaptation of the beloved film has been renewed for a second season — but it will be the series’ last, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
What’s more, the show from “Broad City’s” Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham, who also serves as showrunner on Amazon’s “Daisy Jones & The Six” limited series, will receive an abbreviated run of only four hourlong episodes; the first season, which released all at once on August 12, 2022, consists of eight. Amazon will reportedly bill the batch of episodes as a “limited series,” despite following up on and concluding the events of the initial season.
Amazon declined to comment on the report to IndieWire.

Prime Video has renewed A League of Their Own for a second and final season. Following months of talks with Sony TV, the series will end with a four-episode Season 2, sources have confirmed.
The hourlong series, created by Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson, is an adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 film. It follows the formation of the WWII-era women’s professional baseball team, weaving in the experiences of both diverse and queer women at the center — earning the show a cult following.

Amazon’s queer take on Penny Marshall’s beloved A League of Their Own will get one last at-bat.
The retail giant/streamer, following months of negotiations, has handed out a second and final season renewal for the series from showrunners Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson. The Sony Pictures Television-produced show will conclude with a four-episode final season. The news follows months of renegotiations with Sony to lower the show’s licensing fee, and the cast had to sign new deals, given the order is for half the episodes that were featured in season one, sources say.
Reps for Amazon and Sony declined to comment as deals have not yet been completed for what sources say will be billed as a “limited series.”

Netflix’s upcoming romantic dramedy series “Partner Track,” set at a Manhattan-based white-shoe law firm, has been described as “Sex and the City” meets “Suits,” but for star Arden Cho the series is unlike any other that she’s seen on television. That’s because the story centers on a first-generation Korean American merger and acquisitions lawyer, Ingrid Yun (Cho), as she navigates everything from forbidden romance to microaggressions at the male-dominated company — something Cho said is hard to come by in shows about single 20-something women in New York City.
“Ingrid just sticks out to begin with,” Cho told TheWrap. “She is an Asian American woman, and there is some diversity at the firm but it’s very clearly noted. You’ve just got, ‘Oh, we’ve got a couple of people of color. Let’s stick them together, and that’s your diversity,‘ which is something we see happening in the world.

Mexican American actress Roberta Colindrez plays another gay Latina in Abbi Jacobson's "A League of Their Own," but that doesn't mean she's been typecast. "I don't think that being gay and Latina is a monolithic experience," Colindrez tells Popsugar in a recent interview. Her character Lupe García, the Rockford Peaches' pitcher, is quite dynamic. She can spy hypocrisy, even when she's trying to please; has no shame in her game, even when the world tells her she should; and finds a way to live in the present, even as she deals with trauma from her past.
"I do play gay Latinas because I present as gay and Latina. And I think that a lot of times, definitions are very much more visual for people than they are anything else."
You may recognize Colindrez from one of her 30-plus roles, including playing Nico, the bartender and love interest on Tanya Saracho's "Vida,...

“A League of Their Own” series co-creator Will Graham has big plans for Season 2 (as previously mentioned to TheWrap), and if the show continues to root itself in historical events from the real All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, there is plenty more story to tell.
“We’re already working on the storyboard. We know where the show is going and what the bigger arc of it is,” Graham said in a more recent interview with TheWrap after the release of the Prime Video series’ first season. “People who watch the film, they don’t know that the league lasted until 1954.”
The first season, which contains eight episodes, zooms in further on the true story of the establishment of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was captured in Penny Marshall’s 1992 film of the same name, but not in terms of the diversity of the women who flocked to league tryouts.

In Prime Video’s A League of Their Own, the little-known history of a league of female baseball players who took to the field during World War II gets its time under the lights.
But the show, which debuted its first season on Aug. 12, does much more than chronicle the history of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The eight-episode streaming series zeroes in on the erased histories of the queer women who played on the league’s various teams. There to help capture the breadth and depth of these women’s journeys on and off the field was costume designer Tracye Field. While the show’s characters lived in a time when their clothing could be a means of gender constraint,...

Prime Video’s “A League of Their Own” tackles many themes, but one in particular that comes up, again and again, is female friendship — and that theme truly takes center stage in the series’ emotional finale episode.

Melanie Field grew up playing sports, though she tells Popsugar she wasn't particularly good at them. She would spend Sunday afternoons watching games on TV with her dad, avoiding homework while he explained the rules of baseball or football. She never would have guessed that she'd one day be the one on screen playing baseball. Field stars as Jo Deluca in Prime Video's "A League of Their Own," an adaptation of the 1992 film, which she's long adored.
"To be plus-size on television is already such a surreal thing for me because it's something I never, ever expected growing up," Field says. "The representation was just not there. I had no reason to believe that there was any place for me on screen."
There were a handful of exceptions to that rule, though, when Field was a kid in the '90s. She can name them in quick succession: Roseanne Barr,...

When building out a truly lived-in friendship onscreen, it’s easier to tap into fact instead of fiction.
The ensemble cast for Prime Video’s reimagining of “A League of Their Own” fused the real-life stories behind the traveling baseball league formed in 1943 with the female friendships and queer love stories at the center of it all. “A League of Their Own” centers on Carson (Abbi Jacobson), a catcher who runs away from her marriage and tries to untangle her sexual identity with the help of Greta (D’Arcy Carden), a charismatic and seductively empowered new teammate.
Meanwhile, in racially-segregated Rockford, Illinois, all-star player Max (Chanté Adams) is seeking a team to play on, while pal Clance (Gbemisola Ikumelo) supports Max’s similar journey to sexual self-discovery.

Prime Video’s “A League of Their Own” series only just launched, but the show’s creators are already hard at work on a potential second season.
“We’re here with you taking a break from working on Season 2 of the show,” series co-creator Will Graham told TheWrap in a recent interview. “There definitely is a lot more to this story.”
The first season, out on Prime Video now, sees Carson Shaw (Abbi Jacobson), Greta Gill (D’Arcy Carden), Jo De Luca (Melanie Field) and more gather at tryouts for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, eventually settling on the story of the Rockford Peaches. Within the Illinois-based team are stories of all kinds of women, but one storyline falls outside the Aagpbl with Max Chapman (Chanté Adams), who carves her own niche in baseball later on in the show. Season 1 ends with some physical and literal twists, but the story is far from over.

“Broad City” co-creator Abbi Jacobson and “Mozart in the Jungle” executive producer Will Graham give “A League of Their Own” a modern makeover for the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series, emphasizing LGBT storylines and the struggles of Black female athletes to play baseball during the World War II era. The show, which debuted this weekend, follows the basic outline of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie of the same name: A catcher with a husband away at war quickly becomes a team leader, played in the update by Jacobson. Nick Offerman has stepped into the equivalent shoes of Tom Hanks as a disgraced-star-player-turned-manager. Here’s how the show stacks up against the 30-year-old movie, which introduced Rosie O’Donnell to pal Madonna and was itself an adaptation of a late-1980s documentary of the same name.
Abbi Jacobson plays catcher Carson Shaw, a reluctant leader exploring unexpected feelings for a teammate while her husband is serving overseas.

Prime Video's new "A League of Their Own" series is, as the saying goes, a whole different ball game -- at least when you compare it with the film it's based on. The series takes place in the 1940s and follows the newly assembled members of the groundbreaking Rockford Peaches women's baseball team, but other than that, it bears little resemblance to the 1992 movie by Penny Marshall.
Instead, the latest iteration of the story spotlights a rarely explored slice of real history: the love lives and identities of the LGBT+ teammates, and the experiences of Black athletes -- namely pitcher Max (Chanté Adams) -- who weren't allowed to join the team.

Prime Video’s A League of Their Own offers a delightful, though rare experience: at times it can be harder to remember who on is straight, rather than who’s gay. One of the strongest aspects of the new show, the queer representation was notably lacking from the original film. It’s a matter of historical fact that there were queer players in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (A.A.G.P.B.L.), upon which both the 1992 Penny Marshall movie and the 2022 Amazon Prime Video series are based. Thirty years after Penny Marshall’s home run hit film “A League of Their Own” (1992) hit TV screens, a reimagined series that has the heart of the story will do the same. Created by Abbi Jacobson who also stars in the series and Will Graham, the TV show broadens the scope of storytelling that captures the women who went to play baseball while the men were away for World War II.
The series does still center around the Midwestern All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, with four teams: the Rockford Peaches, Kenosha Comets, South Bend Blue Sox and Racine Belles. Will a good deal of action takes place on the diamond, more lies beyond the dugout and bases. Race, ethnicity and sexual orientation get a more detailed look in the eight hours of TV vs. the film’s two.

The new Prime Video series “A League of Their Own” acknowledges Penny Marshall’s 1992 hit film of the same name while deepening the story. While Marshall’s movie very much tackled misogynistic attitudes towards women playing baseball, it didn’t have the scope of diversity that the new series establishes, especially when it comes to exploring issues related to race and sexual orientation with the All American Girls Professional Baseball League players.
Like the 1992 film, the series explores the foundation of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aaggpbl), but it dives into more of the individual stories of players who come from minority backgrounds. Starring Abbi Jacobson as Carson Shaw and Chanté Adams as Max Chapman, the show weaves the two narratives of these characters together in a complex story that’s fun yet surprisingly intimate.

Those of us who grew up loving baseball — going to games with Dad, learning to keep score, listening to the hometown broadcasts on the local Am radio stations — know these things to be true: Hot dogs, especially with mustard, taste better at the ballpark. The universal designated hitter is a ridiculous idea. And 1992’s “A League of Their Own” is unquestionably one of the best baseball movies of all time. Even if you’ve never seen it, you know its most famous line, delivered by Tom Hanks as washed-up former pro ballplayer who thinks he’s now slumming it by managing a team of girls in short skirts: “There’s no crying in baseball!”
So the team behind the new “A League of Their Own” series — which debuts on Prime Video at the height of baseball season, as two dozen or so teams try to grab a piece of the...

We're helping you to prepare for A League of Their Own, premiering on Amazon on Friday, August 12.
The full first season will be available for your binge-watching pleasure, and we had the chance to meet with the cast and creatives to explore what's ahead.
We hope you enjoy the full interviews below!
Abbi Jacobson (Creator/Carson Shaw) & Chanté Adams (Max Chapman)
Abbi Jacobson worked with Will Graham to create the magic that's revisited in A League of Their Own. She's also one of the stars of the show as Carson Shaw, allowing her a dual perspective.
Chanté is playing Max, which is a role the likes of which wasn't fleshed out in the film. Showing the difficulties of a black woman trying to break into sports offers her a wonderful arc.
Abbi also talks about how A League of Their Own is about women discovering and enjoying their sexuality against...

When Brad Pitt, as Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane in the 2011 modern classic “Moneyball,” rhetorically asked, “How can you not be romantic about baseball,” he wasn’t talking about the inevitability of love and sports colliding. “Bull Durham” this was not. What Billy was referring to (via Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian’s script) was the sentimental wish-fulfillment America’s pasttime so often and so easily lends itself to realizing. He may as well have asked, “How can you not dream?” For even when those dreams are dashed, as Billy’s were time and time again, the sport known for guaranteeing three tries per at-bat is thus the one most encouraging of idealism, of myth-making, of hope.
