Exclusive: S.S. Rajamouli is currently assembling a production team for a new movie about the birth and rise of Indian Cinema.
Rajamouli, whose Rrr racked up an Oscar win and over $166M WW, is not directing, we understand. At $130M, Rrr is the third highest grossing movie in Indian cinema. Rajamouli is ‘presenting’ which over in India is a bigger title than producer on a film, though akin to how Hollywood views the role of a producer.
The new biopic about Indian Cinema is not yet titled, though reps for Rajamouli promise it’s a “magnum opus telling” which will be told “on a huge scale and canvas.”
Rrr followed the fictitious telling of two legendary revolutionaries and their journey away from home before they started fighting for their country in the 1920s.
Rrr won an original song Oscar this past spring for its single “Naatu Naatu” written by M.M. Keeravani and Chandrabose.

PinkPantheress follows the “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2” remix with Ice Spice with another collab, this time with Destroy Lonely for “Turn Your Phone Off.”
The song narrates the story of an unwanted caller/ex-lover that PinkPantheress harbors mixed feelings about. “I turned my phone off but your calls still came through/I reply when they do ’cause I want to chat to you,” she sings in the high-speed chorus. “Then the next day we try again and again/I pick up when you call me so we won’t see the end.

Top Gun: Maverick soared at the global box office this summer — and the big-budget blockbuster is also flying high after winning an Oscar for best sound.
The Tom Cruise starrer also earned Academy Awards nominations for best picture, best adapted screenplay and best original song (for Lady Gaga and BloodPop’s “Hold My Hand”) in addition to two Golden Globes nods, including best motion picture in the drama category. (Despite his absence at the Oscars, Cruise still garnered plenty of attention at the ceremony.)
After raking in well over $1 billion worldwide, the Top Gun sequel landed on Paramount+ and Amazon-owned MGM+ (formerly Epix) last December. It’s also available to buy or rent on Amazon’s Prime Video, iTunes, Redbox, Vudu and other video-on-demand platforms.

Her appearance on the red carpet was stunning. Thick black eyeliner, bright red lipstick, and a new-off-the-runway black corset gown. But on the stage the dress had been replaced with a black T-shirt and torn trousers, and the bright red lipstick and heavy eye makeup had been removed. Overall, it had a much more natural appearance.

Rihanna took the stage at the Oscars on Sunday for a rousing rendition of her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever song, “Lift Me Up.”
The performance was straightforward but powerful, as Rihanna belted the moving ballad while backed by a full orchestra. The performance received a touching introduction from Wakanda Forever‘s Danai Gurira, who noted that “Lift Me Up” was penned in honor of late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman.

After it looked like Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick was going to be the only nominee for Best Song not performed during the 2023 Oscars — due to her schedule and timing needed to prepare — that changed right before the awards show. “I wrote this song with my friend Bloodpop for the film Top Gun: Maverick in my studio basement. It’s deeply personal for me,” Lady Gaga said when we first saw her on the Oscars stage. “I think we all need each other. We need a lot of love to walk through this life. And we all need a hero sometimes. There’s heroes all around us, in unassuming places, but you might find that you can be your own hero, even if you feel broken inside.” What followed was a very stripped down performance of “Hold My Hand” from Lady Gaga, which was, of course spectacular.

Lady Gaga soared with the “Top Gun: Maverick” ballad “Hold My Hand,” but her 2023 Oscars performance of the song paid tribute to original director Tony Scott.
Scott, who died in 2012, helmed 1987’s “Top Gun.” The long-awaited sequel “Maverick” was directed by Joseph Kosinski.
Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” is a Best Original song contender at the 95th Academy Awards. While Gaga was first announced to not be performing due to her “Joker: Folie à Deux” production schedule, she did indeed take the stage during the awards show to bust out ballad “Hold My Hand.”

Lady Gaga performed a stripped down version of her song “Hold My Hand,” which was nominated in the Best Original Song category for the film “Top Gun: Maverick” going into Sunday’s Academy Awards.
The “House of Gucci” actress’ performance was not confirmed until the day of the ceremony after reports that she would not be attending or performing.

Gaga graced the red carpet in a full face of makeup — including red lipstick — and a black gown, but she changed into a black T-shirt and jeans with holes in the knees and removed her makeup to belt the power ballad.
Gaga is currently filming for “Joker 2: Folie à Deux,” in which she is starring opposite Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix as Harley Quinn. The “Joker” sequel will also call upon her vocal chops: It is set to be a musical and release Oct. 4, 2024.

David Byrne performed the Everything Everywhere All At Once soundtrack standout “This Is a Life” at the 2023 Oscars alongside co-writer and producer Son Lux and one of the film’s stars (and fellow nominees) Stephanie Hsu.
Adorned in white and joined by a crew of contemporary dancers, Byrne and Hsu duetted the film’s ballad with an initial touch of grace, only for Byrne’s elongated fingers — a nod to Eeaao’s iconic hot dog hands — to steal the show. The performance juxtaposed beauty and absurdity, much like the film itself.
Hsu stepped in for the song’s original contributing vocalist and nominee, Mitski, though the actor did appear on the soundtrack herself on the solo track, “Sucked into a Bagel.” Elsewhere, Hsu was in the running for Best Supporting Actress and Son Lux was in contention for Best Original Score, while the film overall received 11 nominations.

“It’s not the plane, it’s the pilot.” When Miles Teller’s Rooster spits out that gem of a line toward the end of “Top Gun: Maverick,” the second-in-command action star certainly isn’t talking about Hollywood awards season. And yet, it’s an apt metaphor for the blockbuster Best Picture nominee and its spectacular ascent to Sunday’s Oscars.
A sequel to one of cinema’s most iconic fighter pilot movies was always flyable as a business idea: the metaphoric plane, if you will. But after the death of original “Top Gun” director Tony Scott — who passed in 2012 with his own unrealized vision of a follow-up in the works — recruiting the right people to pilot the tentpole for Paramount Pictures grew complicated. Not only did eventual director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer face the uphill battle of evolving a beloved property, but they also had to convince...

Almost exactly one year ago, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” premiered at SXSW. The sophomore feature from the two-headed directorial entity known as Daniels — aka Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert — had plenty of hype going into the festival, as the GenX filmmaker had already garnered a decade of fans for their music video work, with bonus points for the silly-sweet gamble of their 2016 feature debut “Swiss Army Man.” Yet even the visionary concept of an island castaway riding a farting corpse to freedom couldn’t have prepared audiences for the cultural phenomenon to come.
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” was an instant sensation with almost as many layers as the multiverses strewn across in its plot. It’s an innovative and hilarious sci-fi comedy about the messiness of modern life, a touching exploration of intergenerational Asian American identity, and a rousing showcase for Asian actors long under-appreciated by the industry.

Will Oscar voters choose a superstar or go for a high-energy dance number from an Indian-language film? That’s the dilemma facing voters as they mull over the five best song nominees for 2022 – and voting begins today.
Rihanna (“Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”), Lady Gaga (“Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick”) and ex-Talking Heads frontman David Byrne (“This Is a Life” from “Everything Everywhere All at Once”) are in the running. Yet, even with all that star power, the presumptive frontrunner of late has been seen as “Naatu Naatu,” from the Telugu film “Rrr.”
It all depends on what’s caught the fancy of voters during the run-up to the six-day voting period. Oscar history is rife with examples of songs that outpolled the expected picks at the last minute, simply because voters couldn’t escape the radio play of the newest hit.

Actor and singer Sofia Carson and songwriter Diane Warren will perform the Oscar-nominated song ‘Applause’ from ‘Tell It Like a Woman’ at next month’s Academy Awards ceremony. This is the second nominated song announced after Rihanna was confirmed to perform her track from ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, reports Variety.
‘Applause’ marks Warren’s 14th career Oscar nomination, which comes after chart-topping hits such as ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing’ from ‘Armageddon’ (1998) and ‘Because You Loved Me’ from ‘Up Close and Personal’ (1996), reports Variety.
However, she has yet to win. Oscar-winner Cher was tapped to present Warren with an Honorary Oscar at the 2022 Governors Awards.
Carson is a multiplatinum recording artist and released her self-titled debut album in 2022. Warren triumphed recently over fellow nominees Rihanna and Lady Gaga at the Society of Composers and Lyricists Awards, winning outstanding original song.

Predicting Best Original Song at the Oscars is made more difficult by the three-stage process. In years past, many seemingly sure-fire contenders were deemed to be ineligible. Even those ditties that cleared this hurdle then have to pass muster with the nearly 400 members of the music branch of the academy. (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2023 Oscars Best Original Song predictions.)

Taylor Swift makes history at the 3rd Annual Gold Derby Music Awards for the most awards won in a single year by an artist. Out of her 11 nominations, she prevailed eight times, including Artist of the Year, Record of the Year (“All Too Well”), and Song of the Year (“All Too Well”), categories she has won every year of the GDMAs so far. But just like last year, she couldn’t take that sweep all the way to Album of the Year. Scroll down for the complete list of winners in all 22 categories, and watch the video announcement above.

The Academy has released the list of nominations for the 2023 Oscars. Everything Everywhere All at Once led the pack this year with 11 nominations, followed closely by the war drama All Quiet On The Western Front and dark comedy The Banshees of Inisherin.
A few actors who made big comebacks this year received nominations for their roles, including Brendan Fraser for The Whale and former child actor Ke Huy Quan for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Also in the running for best actor are Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Billy Nighy and Paul Mescal, all first-time nominees. In a surprising nod to indie film To Leslie, Andrea Riseborough scored a nomination for best actress. The race also includes Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, Michelle Williams and Michelle Yeoh.
Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the Oscars, making his third appearance as emcee after his previous hosting stints in 2017 and 2018.

Who but Rihanna could effectively disappear from music for more than half a decade, only to launch a quiet but impactful grand return in the form of two songs created for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack and then earn her first-ever Academy Award nomination for one of the tracks?
“Lift Me Up,” the song that plays during the closing credits of Marvel’s latest giant, has been nominated for Best Original Song at the 2023 Oscars. Rihanna will be up against Lady Gaga and Bloodpop for “Hold My Hand” from...

The Oscar Best Original Song nominees list is packed with a powerhouse roster of talent, including Rihanna, Lady Gaga, David Byrne. That sets up a collision of current musical giants come Oscar night. Of course, there’s Diane Warren, the recipient of an Honorary Oscar last month and a musical giant in her own right. She’s garnered a 14th nomination in the category with “Applause,” from the little-seen doc Tell It Like a Woman.
Not on the list is Taylor Swift, whose “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing was on the shortlist of 15 films in contention to be nominated.
While she is a seven-time Grammy winner, Rihanna’s nomination today is her first Oscar nod.
This morning’s list of Original Song nominees not only broadens the relevance to the Academy’s nominations, it adds star power.
