Music managing mogul Deb Antney is on the hunt for the world’s next female rap star.
Deb’s House, a new unscripted series that follows Antney on her search will debut on Allblk, the streaming service for Black television and film from AMC Networks, this summer. AMC Networks made the announcement during Tuesday’s Television Critics Association panel.
According to AMC, the series will feature eight up-and-coming female artists who move into a shared house to compete to become Antney’s next “rap protégé.”
In additional to exceptional lyricism, Antney will also be on the lookout for dedication and the willingness to make sacrifices on the road to hip-hop stardom.
“I envisioned a competition show that deviates from the norm—one centered around personal growth and self-competition,” Antney said in a statement. “Collaborating with (co-creator and co-ep) Rasheed to bring this vision to life has been an incredible journey.

We tv is expanding its slate with one new scripted drama and one new reality series. “Toya & Reginae” is a new reality series that centers around rapper Lil Wayne’s ex-wife, Toya Johnson-Rushing, and their daughter, Reginae Carter, while “Bev Is Boss” is a narrative show about music managing mogul Deb Antney. Head of programming Dan McDermott announced the news Tuesday as part of AMC Networks’ upfronts.
Of the two projects, “Toya & Reginae” falls more in line with We tv’s previously existing slate of unscripted content. The series will showcase the highs and lows of a mother-daughter duo that’s been in the spotlight for years. It promises to give fans a peak behind what they see on social media as it explores their love lives, careers, family dynamics and their “seemingly dysfunctional family.”

Today, AMC Networks’ We tv announced greenlights for two brand-new series, “Toya & Reginae” and “Bev is Boss.”
“Toya & Reginae,” the network’s new, unscripted reality TV show, will spotlight the ex-wife and daughter of hip hop legend Lil Wayne, Toya Johnson-Rushing and Reginae Carter. The series comes as an extension of We tv’s successful “Growing Up Hip Hop” franchise as both Johnson-Rushing and Carter have appeared in the series.
“I’m so excited to let viewers back into our lives to see what my family has been up to since you’ve seen us last,” said Johnson-Rushing.
Their new show will pull back the curtain into the lives of the high profile mother-and-daughter duo, proving that “as happy as they seem on social media, their lives are unpredictable and full of chaos,” per the network’s official release.
“Toya & Reginae” will air this fall exclusively on We tv and sister steamer Allblk.

Waka Flocka considers dating someone new. Pic credit: WEtv
Now that Waka Flocka and Tammy Rivera have split, they’re both free to date — but should they?
While sitting down with his mom, Deb Antney, and several other family members, Waka brought up the idea that he might want to date someone new.
Waka posed it as a question, asking if he should get into another relationship and his mom’s response was everything. Deb, completely blindsided, responded with “What the hell!”
It seems that Waka has been giving his new single life a lot of thought. And while he admits freely that he’s not really ready to date yet, he doesn’t seem to want to wait either.
What he does know though, is that he’s definitely not ready for kids. Waka does want them at some point though but told his mom that he’s not...

Hip hop has been the subject of numerous films, both fiction and nonfiction, but there’s never been a documentary series quite like FX’s Hip Hop Uncovered. It takes an innovative approach to telling how the art form emerged and went on to become the dominant genre of music.
“It was important to…hit it from an angle that felt fresh and like something that no one had really seen before or taken the time to really think about,” director and executive producer Rashidi Natara Harper explained during Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary + Unscripted awards-season event. “The biggest thing we wanted to communicate was, ‘You guys think you know this music but you literally have no idea.’ ”
The six-part series doesn’t ignore the famous names behind hip hop’s success, like Dr. Dre, Suge Knight and Russell Simmons, but its primary focus is on lesser-known but critically important figures who helped develop artists,...

The story of hip hop has been told before – a world created by the likes of DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, the Sugarhill Gang and Run-dmc has had its fair share of ink and moving pictures.
Many of the behind the scenes figures such as Sugar Hill Records founder Sylvia Robinson, Def Jam’s Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons and Death Row founder Suge Knight have also been profiled.
However, the story of some of the true power brokers even further in the shadows has never been told. That is the story of Hip Hop Uncovered, a six-part series for FX that launches tonight, Friday, February 12.
Through the lens of five key people – Big U, Deb Antney, Bimmy, Trick Trick and Haitian Jack – the docuseries tells the story of the genre from the streets up, revealing how it shaped culture over the last 40 years.
