“Between season 1 and season 5 is an entire life.” That’s a real understatement on the part of Sonequa Martin-Green in an interview with Den of Geek magazine, describing the five-season and seven-year journey of her character Michael Burnham, the protagonist of Star Trek: Discovery.
When we first met Burnham way back in 2017, she was the first officer on the USS Shenzhou, a Starfleet ship operating about a decade before the events of The Original Series, and under the command of Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh). By the end of the two-part premiere, Georgiou was dead and Burnham was in prison for mutiny.
Things have certainly changed since then. We begin Discovery‘s fifth and final season with Captain Michael Burnham of the USS Discovery, but adventuring over 900 years after the events of the premiere. Yeah, it’s been a wild journey, one that incurred more than a little criticism early...

Quick, who’s the most important person in Star Trek? Jim Kirk? Jean-Luc Picard? Morn?
No, no, and maybe, but not who we had in mind. The most important person in Star Trek is the character who has appeared in every series, except The Original Series: William T. Riker, the character immortalized by Jonathan Frakes.
Of course, Frakes played Commander Riker for seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation. His twin/clone/variant Thomas Riker showed up as a Maquis agent on Deep Space Nine, while Q shenanigans brought Will to the Delta Quadrant on Voyager. No one, not even Frakes, likes Riker’s appearance with Troi in the finale of Enterprise. But everyone loved Riker and Troi’s vocal appearances on Lower Decks. And, yes, it takes some fudging, but Star Trek: Very Short Treks allowed Riker to blast his trombone with the Star Trek: The Animated Series crew,...

As global streamers like Netflix and Amazon Prime finally make inroads in Africa, Nigerian-Canadian filmmaker Lonzo Nzekwe is enjoying his moment in the sun at the Toronto Film Festival.
CAA Media Finance boarded Nzekwe’s Nigeria-set Canadian revenge thriller Orah with worldwide representation, excluding Canada, just before the feature that stars Star Trek: Discovery actor Oyin Oladejo in the titular role had a prestigious TIFF market screening on Monday night as part of the festival’s expanded Industry Selects program.
The film, with a script 12 years in the making and shot in Canada and Nigeria, marks a triumph for Nzekwe, who like fellow black Canadian filmmakers long had his work neglected, ignored or dismissed before a Canadian industry reckoning after the murder of George Floyd finally diverted meaningful local financing to underrepresented creators.

When Paramount+ brought Trek back to television in September 2017 with Star Trek: Discovery's double-decker premiere event, it broke ground on a road that would see the rebirth of the Trek franchise.
Six years later, Star Trek: Discovery has saved the galaxy multiple times; traveled through the mycelial network, to the Mirror Universe and back, forward in time nine hundred years, and beyond the edge of the known universe; and spawned the highly successful spin-off Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
In March, Paramount+ announced the fifth season will be the USS Discovery's final mission. We've gathered all the intel on what it'll entail, who's on board, and when you can expect to buckle up and hold on as Michael Burnham and her crew let 'er fly one last time.
What can we expect from the Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 plot?

The visual effects team at “Star Trek: Discovery” are pulling out all the stops for the show’s fifth and final season at Paramount+. In a teaser revealed at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday, Capt. Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) finds herself in the midst of a high-speed chase between the U.S.S. Discovery, the U.S.S. Antares and an alien ship.
Oh, did we mention Burham is standing outside the alien ship during the entire chase? Watch the scene in the video above.
The clip starts off with Burham facing off against two smugglers, L’ak and Moll (recurring guest stars Elias Toufexis and Eve Harlow), who are in possession of a powerful alien artifact. Right before they beam away, they throw an explosive at Burham that blows a hole in the hull. Burnham is sucked out into space — but luckily, her environmental suit activates and she makes her...

This Star Trek: Discovery article contains spoilers.
After giving us the Guardian of Forever in episode 10, it was going to be hard for Star Trek: Discovery to try and top old-school Trekkie nostalgia. Luckily, the final few episodes of Discovery Season 3 aren’t really trying for over-the-top callbacks. Like the episode “Su’Kal,” episode 12 of Season 3 — “There Is a Tide..” — is fairly light on obvious Easter eggs and shout-outs. That said, some of the more subtle Easter eggs connect to much bigger aspects of canon. And, from a certain point of view, aspects of “There Is a Tide…” scan like a Disco remake of a very fun Tng episode!
Baryonic residue
As the Discovery jumps in near Federation HQ, Commander Willa (Vanessa Jackson) tells Admiral Vance (Oded Fehr) that the “baryonic residue” of both Disco and Osyraa’s ship match that of the Verubin Nebula. “Baryonic residue” refers to “the...

Star Trek: Discovery season 3 reaches its eighth episode this Thursday, and it promises to dive deeper into what makes Book tick. David Ajala debuted as Cleveland “Book” Booker this year, serving as the first ally that Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) made after arriving 1000 years in the future.
In this week’s episode, Burnham and the Discovery crew will travel to his homeworld in order to rescue it from the powerful crime syndicate, the Emerald Chain, and you can get a flavor for what’s in store from the promo images down below. As well as showcasing Burnham and Book on his planet, many of the Discovery crew are also given the spotlight, including Captain Saru (Doug Jones), Ensign Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Lt. Despite landing in a future in which the Federation’s influence has been greatly diminished, Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 is shaping up to be far less dark and dystopic than many predicted. In Episode 3, “People of Earth,” the USS Discovery visited the home planet of the Federation, and although that visit was a mixed bag, things did end on a very hopeful note—one that is even more hopeful when you understand the canon significance of a certain giant tree. Here’s why that big tree on the grounds of Starfleet Academy is likely a reference to old stories told by Captain Jean-Luc Picard in The Next Generation...

Last week, Star Trek: Discovery kicked off its third season at long last, with the premiere following Sonequa Martin-Green’s Michael Burnham as she got used to the world of the 32nd century, after she and the U.S.S. Discovery crew came to the far future through a wormhole. The only thing is, though, they didn’t come together. The rest of the crew were absent in the opener, but this week they return. And these new photos from episode 2 tease Saru (Doug Jones) and the gang likewise reacting to life in a very different galaxy from the one they knew.
Aptly titled “Far From Home,” these promo images from episode 2 showcase Saru alongside Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), Tilly (Mary Wiseman), Keyla Detmer (Emily Coutts) and Lt. Owosekun (Oyin Oladejo). Not featured are the likes of Stamets and Culber (Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz), but they’ll be along for the ride as well.
