As FIFA is on the lookout for another publisher, Electronic Arts has already moved on with EA Sports Fc 24, a different game than FIFA. Many may not even recognize it without the sound of “EA Sports – It’s in the game.” No matter how saddening it is, now is the time for the fans to go through the gate of acceptance. Acceptance that Fédération Internationale de Football Association might have found their partners for the next official FIFA game.
The company first struck the deal back in 1993, which reportedly happened over dinner in Switzerland, to bring the first-ever game in the series, FIFA International Soccer. Since then, it has become a heavily popular title across the globe. The best-selling game in the world has its name inscribed in the Guinness World Records too, a feat not many games have been able to capture.

The 2030 men’s football World Cup will be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with one match each taking place in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, FIFA announced on Wednesday.
Uruguay will also hold a centenary ceremony in Montevideo, where the first World Cup took place in 1930.
The event will be the first World Cup to span three continents, with games in Africa, Europe and South America.
Saudi Arabia, which is believed to have heavily lobbied for 2030 hosting, will now push for the 2034 tournament. FIFA announced Wednesday that the Asian and Oceanian continental federations will now be invited to bid for the 2034 tournament. The Saudis wasted no time to indicate they will bid on that gathering.
“The FIFA Council, representing the entire world of football, unanimously agreed to celebrate the centenary of the FIFA World Cup, whose first edition was played in Uruguay in 1930, in the most appropriate way,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Spain have defeated England’s Lionesses to win the women’s soccer World Cup.
Despite a missed penalty, the victorious Spanish team took the trophy after winning 1-0, the difference being a first half goal by Olga Carmona, who finished smartly following a loose run by England’s Lucy Bronze.
England felt like favorites going into the 70,000 sellout game in Melbourne but Spain dominated throughout and had more chances. They failed to convert good semi-final form onto the biggest stage and England’s long wait for a first World Cup final win continues, although England did win the Euros last year. King Charles and his son Prince William had earlier wished the Lionesses good luck via video messages.
The players were nervy at the start but Spain played the better football in the first half and it wasn’t overly surprising when Carmona scored, with England completely losing their shape.

Italy’s Taormina Film Festival kicks off its 69th edition Friday evening against the backdrop of its landmark Teatro Antico amphitheatre with a “Pavarotti Forever” benefit event headlined by Placido Domingo and Vittorio Grigolo.
It’s not the typical opening for a film festival, but it is in keeping with the eclectic programming of incoming artistic director Barrett Wissman, whose interview with Deadline on his plans for the festival can be read here.
Much is riding on the edition, with Wissman being brought in to raise its local and international profile after a turbulent decade, which was compounded by the Covid pandemic.
Topping the bill over the first weekend is the Italian premiere of Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny in the presence of Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Mads Mikkelsen. It’s the first time a major Disney production has touched down at the festival since Inside Out in 2015. Indiana Jones,...

Super League: The War for Football is a television mini-series by Apple TV+ written and directed by Jeff Zimbalist in which we penetrate in the creation of the Super League, a competition that would leave national competitions to one side and would focus on a grand European League in which the big clubs would compete against each other.

Doha (Qatar), Dec 16 (Ians) FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed on Friday that the organization will reconsider the format for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The 2026 tournament will see the number of teams expanded from 32 to 48, and it had originally been announced that these 48 teams would be divided into 16 groups of three, with the top two sides progressing to a straight knockout stage with 32 teams.
However, this format has two clear problems: the first is that teams are only assured of playing two matches, as opposed to three under the current system.
The second problem is that the last game in every group would be played between two teams that both know the result they need in order to reach the knockout stage, potentially opening the door for collusion to ensure a mutually beneficial result.

Good afternoon Insiders, Max Goldbart here. World Cup fever has gripped Deadline Towers and while our U.S. colleagues gobble up their turkey with all the trimmings, we’ve got plenty to round up in the world of international TV and film.
Shifting The Goalposts
Controversy keeps on coming: Those who thought the Qatar World Cup controversy would melt away when the real action started were sadly mistaken. It is hard to keep track of happenings off the pitch during a fast and furious first week of the world’s biggest sporting tournament but the tone was set by a helplessly bizarre tirade from FIFA boss Gianni Infantino Saturday, in which his robust defense of the Gulf state led with a much-mocked “Today I feel Qatari, today I feel Arab, today I feel African, today I feel gay” before he went on to equate serious human rights plights with him...

Sir Michael Parkinson has expressed his disdain towards Fifa president Gianni Infantino during a discussion about the current state of football.
The sporting organisation has faced significant criticism recently, much of it being linked to the decision to hold the World Cup in Qatar.
Among issues raised about the tournament taking place in the country include the mistreatment of migrant workers and the criminalisation of homosexuality.
During an appearance on Wednesday’s edition (23 November) of Good Morning Britain, Sir Michael discussed his new memoir, My Sporting Life.
When asked who he’d like to interview if given the chance, the 87-year-old broadcaster named the boss of Fifa as someone who he had no interest in conversing with.
“No, he’s beyond redemption. Let him go away and wither,” he quipped, before adding: “What’s happened to football?”

The captains of seven European teams at the World Cup — including heavy-hitters England, Germany, and the Netherlands — will no longer be wearing armbands in support of the LGBTQ community following threats from international soccer’s governing body, FIFA, The Washington Post reports.
The armbands would have been a pointed protest against the host nation, Qatar, where consensual same-sex relations between men are punishable by up to seven years in prison, according to the U.S. State Department. (There are no specific laws regarding consensual same-sex relations between women, though women,...

After being overshadowed by the BBC’s focus on the human rights issues that have been surrounding the World Cup 2022, yesterday’s opener between hosts Qatar and Ecuador kicked off with a hefty peak of 8M viewers.
The game, which ended 2-0 to Ecuador, was watched by an average of 6.2M across its 195-minute run time – 2M ahead of the opener four years ago between Russia and Saudi Arabia on ITV.
Ratings for big sporting matches are often deceptively low as the UK’s ratings agency Barb doesn’t take into account viewing in pubs, although this will have mattered less for a Qatar vs Ecuador game on a Sunday afternoon in late November.
The match was a hugely disappointing one for a Qatari side who have been preparing for this tournament ever since it was awarded in 2010, and by the end spectators could be seen leaving the Al Bayt Stadium in droves.

Morgan Freeman is being criticised for performing at the opening ceremony of the Fifa World Cup in Qatar.
The 85-year-old actor kicked off the opening ceremony of the football competition on Sunday (20 November) by narrating the opening segment The Calling at Al-Bayt Stadium in Doha.
He told the crowd: “We gather here as one big tribe and Earth is the tent we all live in.”
This World Cup is being called controversial due to its host country, Qatar, and the concerns over human rights abuses there.
For instance, the plight of the migrant workers who helped build Qatar’s infrastructure has been highlighted frequently in the run-in to this tournament.
There have been complaints by the LGBTQ+ communities as well. Kick It Out’s Qatar working group says despite repeated requests, proper reassurances over safety have not been given and LGBTQ+ fans have largely stayed away from a country that criminalises same-sex relationships.

Opening ceremonies to major sporting events are, in the robust opinion of a committed sports fan, a sop to the people who love the drama and spectacle of international commingling, but have little interest in the games being played.
At the Olympics, they have become an enormous, gaudy art form in their own right – from the jaw-dropping show at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest to the cringe-inducing fantasia of London 2012 – but they’ve never been such a big part of World Cups. Perhaps the only lasting memory of an opening ceremony is Diana Ross missing, with the goal at her mercy, during the 1994 curtain-raising bonanza. On Saturday, Gianni Infantino, the polyglot head of FIFA, set the tone for this tournament’s opening.
Sat at a press conference, an array of sponsored items laid out before him like The Generation Game conveyor belt, Infantino gave an impassioned defence of the tournament.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has hit back at criticism of Qatar’s human rights record in an extraordinary press conference in Doha, the day before the World Cup kicks off in the Middle East.
Infantino began with a singular expression of his support for the LGBTQ community and migrant workers.
“Today I feel Qatari, today I feel Arab, today I feel African, today I feel gay, today I feel disabled, today I feel a migrant worker,” he said.
“I’m not Qatari, African, gay, disabled and I’m not really a migrant worker but I know what it means to be discriminated and bullied, as a foreign in a foreign country, as a child at school I was bullied because I had red hair and freckles. I was bullied for that.

Bali (Indonesia), Nov 16 (Ians) Football is much more than a sport, and has a “unique magic” power to bring people together, said FIFA President Gianni Infantino ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
While attending the ongoing G20 Summit held in Bali, Indonesia, Infantino called on world leaders to set aside tensions and conflicts, and enjoy the quadrennial football event which is scheduled to take place from November 20 to December 18 in Qatar.
“The World Cup should be an occasion for joy and unity. It should send a message of hope,” Infantino told Xinhua in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.
Infantino said football is also an important economic activity with a global Gdp of hundreds of billions of U.S. dollars, creating millions of jobs and bolstering economic growth. “This is about growth, economic growth,” said the FIFA head.

FIFA has announced an ambitious plan for its own streaming service app, a global, ad-supported platform that aims to feature up to 40,000 live matches in 2022 alone, the association announced Tuesday.
Called FIFA+, the service will offer live domestic league games, match stats, a massive archive and premium original content. Soccer’s highest governing body will not feature World Cup games on the service, however.
FIFA says the streams will cover more than 29,000 men’s and 11,000 women’s matches across 100 member associations and all six global confederations. There is currently no subscription tier, as FIFA is launching with an ad-supported format only.
FIFA+ will be available across all mobile and web-connected devices in five language: English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish. Six more languages will come online this summer.

Ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, soccer’s governing body FIFA is launching a free streaming service.
The organization says FIFA+ will provide access to thousands of live and archive matches, news and tournament information and a suite of original series from the likes of Fulwell 73, Andrew and Stuart Douglas, and England striker turned broadcaster Gary Lineker’s Goalhanger Films.
FIFA claims this makes it the first sports federation to offer such an extensive streaming service, with the organization’s President Gianni Infantino saying it represents “a cultural shift in the way different types of football fans want to connect with and explore the global game”.
The service launches today in five languages, with an additional six following in June. At launch, it’ll be available on web and cellular devices, with other connected devices following.

Berlin, May 21 (Ians) Football's world governing body FIFA has been given the mandate to make a feasibility study of hosting the men's and women's World Cups every two years instead of its current four-year cycle.
Domestic federations voted 166-22 at a virtual congress of the ruling body on Friday in favour of an according motion from Saudi Arabia's national federation on the impact of holding the events every two years, reports Dpa.
FIFA has in several stages increased the numbers of teams at World Cup, with 48 teams instead of 32 at the men's event from 2026 and the women with 32 teams from 2023, up from 24.
But the four-year cycle itself has never been touched as the international match calendar also includes continental tournaments, the Olympics, qualifiers, plus domestic and international club competitions.
However, FIFA boss Gianni Infantino said Friday that a full review of the calendar from 2024 is needed to help make football truly global,...

Ending a bitter rift between Qatar and several Arab countries, Saudi Arabia on Tuesday announced that the trade and travel blockade it led for more than three years against its tiny but super rich neighbor is finally over.
The sudden rapprochement saw Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman invite and welcome Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to a Gulf Cooperation Council Summit in the kingdom. The move is believed by political analysts to have been prompted by Saudi Arabia’s desire to win favor with U.S. President-Elect Joe Biden after he defeated Donald Trump, who had close personal ties with the crown prince.
The easing of this regional dispute that, besides Saudi, also involved the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, is undoubtedly good news for the Middle East media and entertainment landscape, although it’s still early to gauge the extent of its impact.
