After 18 months, BTS’ eldest member, Jin, has officially returned from his mandatory military service.
The 31-year-old is the first from the powerhouse K-pop group to complete his military duties after enlisting in December 2022. BTS’ agency, Big Hit Music, released a statement to fans via Weverse officially announcing Jin’s military discharge.
“Jin is close to completing his active service in the army and will soon be discharged,” the statement read. It also reminded fans that there were no special events in place and that discharge day was for military personnel only, urging fans to not visit the site to avoid any “any issues arising from overcrowding.”
Korean media waited outside, streaming live on air and online. Video from Seoul Broadcasting System (Sbs), a major news outlet in Korea, showed Jin hugging his fellow soldiers as he prepared to exit the military site.

Pitbull reacted on Tuesday to his song’s feature in Bridgerton‘s carriage scene, which hit Netflix along with the first half of season three last week.
“This again shows the world how music is the international language that transcends over boundaries,” Mr. Worldwide wrote on Instagram beneath a clip of the scene.
Netflix’s Bridgerton has featured instrumental covers of hit pop songs since season one. Part 1 of season three included titles from BTS, Nick Jonas, Sia, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and more. In episode four, a cover of Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything” featuring Ne-Yo and Afrojack played during a carriage sex scene with stars Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan).

Hybe, the label behind Korean supergroup BTS, announced today that its annual sales hit 2.17 trillion won (US$1.6 billion) in 2023, making it the first K-pop agency ever to reach this milestone.
In a conference call, the company said that robust album and concert sales by its major artists contributed to this achievement, including Seventeen, Tomorrow X Together, NewJeans, Enhypen and BTS members as soloists.
Several BTS members are currently undergoing mandatory military service, and the band is temporarily on hiatus. However, it continues to resonate globally, with the likes of Disney+ and Prime Video releasing docs on the band.
Despite their absence, the band’s popularity helped operating profits hit 295.8Bn won, up nearly 25% year-on-year, and a net profit of 186.6Bn won, a whopping 288.5% up on 2022.
Hybe’s annual sales for full-year 2023 are up 22.6% from last year. Album sales were worth $730M, marking a significant increase of 75.8% from 2022. Concert revenue also increased 39.1% to $270M,...

BTS’s V, fresh off the release of his solo project, has shared his visit to South Korea’s Tiny Desk. Backed by a crew of stellar instrumentalists and vocalists, the jazz-loving member of the septet reimagined three cuts off of Layover. Watch the full episode below.
Filmed in Seoul, V enlisted a drummer, backup vocalists, a saxophone player, a keyboardist, and a handful of other players (most of whom flew in from the US) to round out the backing band of his dreams. They kicked things off with the album’s pre-release single, “Love Me Again,” and followed it up with an extra dreamy live arrangement of the focus track, Slow Dancing after V dedicated some time to introducing the members of the band. (“Slow Dancing” wisely then built in ample time for a saxophone solo.)

V slowed things down for the debut live performance of his recent single “Love Me Again,” an R&b and jazz-influenced record that appears on his full-length solo album Layover. Accompanied by four backing vocalists, the BTS member performed the song on a special episode of Naver’s Npop show, where he also delivered live renditions of “Rainy Days” and “Slow Dancing.”
Each performance was set against a unique backdrop, reflecting the song’s tone. For “Love Me Again,” the artist, born Kim Taehyung, stood among framed photographs in an orange-hued art gallery setting.

V of BTS has shared “Rainy Days,” the opening track from his forthcoming solo album, Layover. Watch the accompanying music video below.
The BTS vocalist mixes pop and R&b on the piano-driven track, in which he sings wistfully about mending a broken relationship. “Let me make up for all the time we lost,” he croons. “We can start again, open all the doors/ Don’t tell me it’s over, we can start it over.”
Directed by Shin Dongle, the music video captures a rare ordinary day in the life of the superstar musician. After dallying in bed, V wrangles up some food as his dog looks on and falls asleep with cartoons playing in the background. Overall, it’s pretty relatable stuff! Watch the clip below.
Spanning six tracks, Layover is slated for release on September 8th. Previously, V shared "Love me Again" as the lead single.

V of BTS has unveiled “Love Me Again,” the first single from his upcoming solo album, Layover. Watch the song’s accompanying music video below.
As one of the vocalists of the group, V is known for his rich lower register, and he has a particular penchant for jazz-inspired music. “Love Me Again,” a somewhat lo-fi track, allows V to slide into crooner mode once again.
To contrast the gentle nature of the song, V is decked out in a glam look, performing the track against the dramatic backdrop of a cave. “If you ever regret this, won’t you let me know?/ I’ll be honest with you, put it all out there/ I think you about you all the time,” he sings.
The six-track Layover is due out on September 8th.
V’s solo album will follow projects from BTS bandmates Jungkook, j-hope, Rm, Jimin, Suga, and Jin.

BTS member V is bringing it back with the music video for “Love Me Again,” the first single from his upcoming debut solo album Layover.
The visual released on Wednesday and features the star in a gold sequined top surrounded by stalactites hanging from the roof of a cave. Retro elements are peppered throughout the video, as the camera switches from black and white VHS-style recordings and grainy karaoke subtitles flash across the screen.
“I wish you would love me again/No, I don’t want nobody else,” V sings in the chorus.

BTS heartthrob Suga had announced back on August 6 his military conscription in The Republic of Korea Armed Forces (Rokaf) or the South Korean military. Now the K-pop star has officially started his mandatory military duties. The BTS singer had earlier given plans to postpone his military enrollment to a later date, though he later ended up cancelling the postponement.
For members of K-pop groups, the service is usually postponed until they hit 30.
BigHit label announced the K-Pop star’s beginning of his military duties on Monday in a statement on Weverse, with the label giving out an official statement saying, “We would like to inform our fans that Suga has initiated the military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement.”

In early May, two of the world's biggest fandoms - the BTS Army and Taylor Swift's Swifties - were debating whether or not their fave was the subject of a highly anticipated celebrity memoir with an initial print run of one million copies that was shrouded in mystery by its US publisher, Flatiron Books. The buzz around the book, which appeared on Macmillan's website with the title "4C Untitled Flatiron Nonfiction Summer 2023," was so intense that it hit the Top 10 on the Amazon bestsellers list without having even officially been announced.
The mystery surrounding the subject of the book ended on May 11, with the New York Times announcing it is a BTS book. The memoir, titled "Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS," is being released to celebrate BTS's 10th anniversary as a group. Halsey is back in the BTS universe with “Lilith,” a new collaborative single with Suga. It’s released as the “anthem” for Blizzard Entertainment’s new video game Diablo IV, which is also out today.
“Lilith” is exactly what you’d expect from a song made specifically for a video game. Its Diablo-themed music video opens with Halsey donning a hooded black robe as she walks through a candlelit church. “Might fuck around and just succumb to my aggression/ I taste blood and it’s turned to an obsession,” she sings as she takes off the robe to reveal the inevitable sexy sorceress costume underneath. Who cares if arrows are pummeling down to give her numerous bloody lesions — the stilettos are cute, dammit!
Suga then appears inexplicably, surrounded by a cloud of fog that obscures his face. “We just fuck things up, yeah I noticed,” he sings in his entirely-English verse.

The BTS Army better mark their calendars.
The unstoppably global K-Pop phenomenon, BTS, are preparing to release their first memoir on July 9 in South Korea and the United States, according to a report from The New York Times.
The book, Beyond The Story: 10-Year Record of BTS, will dive deep into the group’s historical rise to stardom across the global entertainment industry.
Rumours quickly spread that the mega-successful chart-toppers were releasing a non-fiction book when US booksellers were surprisingly notified of a July 9 release date with an initial print run of 1 million copies. The buzz continued when booksellers revealed they were required to sign an affidavit to stock copies on publication day.
July 9 marks a special date for the pop sensations and their fiercely dedicated fanbase as it was the day the BTS Army – which stands for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth – was founded.

Turns out that book Taylor Swift fans turned into a misguided best-seller would’ve been a hit anyway; it’s about BTS.
After Flatiron Books announced that an unnamed celebrity would be releasing a “blockbuster” memoir in July, hopeful Swifties came out in droves to pre-order the book, making it the No. 1 best-seller on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Now, however, The New York Times reports that 4C Untitled Flatiron Nonfiction Summer 2023 is actually Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS, an oral history of the K-pop group written by journalist Myeongseok Kang.
The book drops on July 9th, an important day in BTS history. Their fan base, the Army, was founded on the date, and July 9th, 2023 marks the Army’s 10th anniversary. The US edition of the book, translated by Anton Hur in collaboration with Clare Richards and Slin Jung, clocks in at 544 pages and features exclusive photographs of the band.

Last March, 25-year-old Kiana Fazeli was at the library studying for the MCATs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., prepping for medical school applications. "I was honestly kind of depressed," she remembers. "It was a very, very lonely time for me."
Then, the YouTube algorithm surfaced a video for Stray Kids, a K-pop group, and a member, whom she now knows as Felix, caught her attention. She wondered: "Who is this handsome fellow?" She started poring over Stray Kids's TikToks and music videos and learning more about the eight-member group. That snowballed into Fazeli getting into BTS after watching their vacation docuseries, "In the Soop [Forest]," and their variety show, "Run BTS."

He’s your hope, and you’re his hope. Now, BTS fans are hoping this announcement from Big Hit Music is an April Fool’s Day joke. The K-pop group’s rapper, dancer, and resident sunshine, J-Hope, is officially enlisting in the South Korean military as an active duty soldier.

As a South Korean male citizen, this artist is officially scheduled to enlist in the military as an active duty soldier in 2023, becoming the second BTS member to do so. Similar to Jin’s enlistment day, ARMYs will be restricted from the private affair.

K-pop suburban BTS’ member J-Hope will join the South Korean Army as an active duty soldier, the band’s agency said on Saturday. “J-Hope will be enlisting in the Army as an active-duty soldier to fulfill his mandatory military service,” BigHit Music said on Weverse, a K-pop fan community platform, reports Yonhap, a news agency.
It, however, said there will be no separate event for fans on the day of his enlistment.
The date and location of the military unit where the K-pop star will be serving were not disclosed.
The agency urged fans to refrain from visiting the site to prevent safety accidents caused by overcrowding.
Last month, the member said during a live broadcast on the same platform that the date for his enlistment was already fixed but did not provide details.

After announcing their plans to serve their mandatory military service before reuniting in 2025, BTS members J-Hope and Jimin paid a visit to their bandmate, Jin, who was the first to enlist in the South Korean army.

Suga has announced a solo tour, the first member of BTS to embark on such a trek.
The second-eldest member of the Bangtan Boys is expected to follow his bandmate Jin and begin military service in 2023, but that enlistment seems like it will have to wait until at least the end of June. Thanks to “Boy With Luv,” BTS have continued to make history by releasing the first Korean-language song to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The Halsey-featuring track appears on BTS’ 2019 EP Map of the Soul: Persona, and while its the first song sung in Korean to hit the Billions Club, it’s not BTS’ first entry into the Spotify success canon. In 2021, the K-pop group’s cut “Dynamite” earned the distinction, marking the first song by a Korean artist to achieve a billion streams. The following year, their track “Butter” hit the milestone as well.
“Boy With Luv” has always been a successful single. Since premiering in 2019, the song has set three Guinness World Records, including Most Viewed YouTube Video in 24 Hours, Most Viewed YouTube Music Video in 24 Hours, and Most Viewed YouTube Music Video by a K-Pop Group in 24 Hours. What’s more, Map of the Soul: Persona debuted at No.

For three years, BTS have been nominated for Grammy Awards - and, in doing so, the superstar group have made history several times over for being the first Korean group to snag those nominations (five in total) and to perform at the award show. But on Feb. 5, for the third year in a row, the Recording Academy snubbed one of the bestselling acts in the music industry.
BTS were up for two awards at the 65th Grammy Awards at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles - one for their "Yet to Come" music video and one for best pop duo/group performance for "My Universe," their collaboration with Coldplay.

The members of BTS either attended or performed at the Grammy Awards in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Even though the septet is nominated in three categories at the upcoming 2023 Grammy Awards, there has been no official confirmation that members of the band will be in attendance.

Unless a few members make a surprise appearance, Suga, J-Hope, Rm, Jimin, V, and Jungkook of BTS will not be in attendance at the 2023 Grammy Awards. The most likely reasons are because the band is currently not prioritizing group activities, and because Jin is completing his military service.
According to The Korea Herald, BTS will not “be present at the event this year as the group is currently on an indefinite break due to military enlistment and solo career commitments.”

According to The Korea Herald, BTS will not “be present at the event this year as the group is currently on an indefinite break due to military enlistment and solo career commitments.”
In October 2022, Big Hit Music announced that Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Rm, Jimin, V,...

BTS just made music history at the 2022 American Music Awards! Taking home the trophy for Favourite K-Pop Artist at Sunday night’s show, BTS earned the award show’s first-ever K-Pop dedicated award.
The group previously nabbed awards in the Favourite Artist and Pop/Rock categories but with an award all their own, the genre has cemented itself as part of the AMAs for years to come. The group also won Favourite Pop Duo/Group — their 4th consecutive win in the category.
While BTS is on hiatus as they prepare to serve their mandatory military service and pursue solo projects, they stand to rack up more awards in the coming year, with the K-Pop group earning two 2023 Grammy nominations. The group, which consists of members Rm, V, Jin, Jungkook, Jimin, Suga and J-Hope, snagged their first nomination for a primarily Korean-language song with “Yet to Come”, which is up for...

Taylor Swift won big at the American Music Awards 2022 taking home six awards, including Artist of the Year.
“In the past few years, I have released more music than I did in the entire decade preceding that,” she said during her acceptance speech. “I really feel that’s down to the fact that you, the fans, made it clear that you wanted to hear lots of music that I would make — you encouraged me.”
Swift said that the more music she put out the happier she felt and thanked the fans for her happiness as they were the motivators.

After being granted a few years of extensions, the South Korean boy band BTS has announced that the members will be beginning their mandatory military service soon, and will be returning to the music scene as a full group again sometime “around 2025.”
The band has been on a hiatus since June while several members pursue solo projects, and they just performed their last performance before the military service this past Saturday in Busan. The band’s oldest member Jin, or Kim Soek-jin, will be the first to enlist.
BTS’ management company Big Hit said that Jin will enlist later this month once he has released and finished promotional duties for his latest solo single. As a globally recognized K-Pop group, BTS was allowed in 2019 to put off their military obligation until the age of 30 instead of the usual 28 for able-bodied men in the country.
It’s unclear what his commitments will be going forward,...
