The Los Angeles City Council is so over the Hollywood strikes. Its members have voted unanimously to expedite entertainment projects in L.A.
Council President Paul Krekorian and several of his colleagues introduced the motion last month, and it was approved on a 14-0 vote, with Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson absent.
The council told various departments to identify any resources or policy changes needed to expedite the local film and television production in town.
“The report is due back in 15 days and we intend to act on the recommendations we receive,” Krekorian said in a statement. “The time it takes to get permits approved can be the most significant determinant of producers’ decisions to shoot in Los Angeles or take their productions and their jobs elsewhere. We intend to keep those jobs here in Los Angeles.”

Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” as a difficult song to write, which is why it includes nonsense lines. A line from the song inspired a holiday called Earth, Wind & Fire Day in Los Angeles, California. The song reached the top 10, but it didn’t chart as highly as some of the band’s other singles.

Acting Los Angeles City Council President Mitch O’ Farrell announced this morning that he is “removing councilmembers Gil Cedillo and Kevin de León from their committee chairmanships as well as from committee assignments.”
O’Farrell said that council rules stipulate that “council members must remain on one committee.” He said his office is “ironing out these details and will provide full communication to my colleagues later today.”
The pressure is growing on the duo to resign from office after former council president Nury Martinez stepped down last week amid the furor over the comments she made on a leaked audio of a conversation with de León, Cedillo and a top labor official. O’Farrell said today that there is “no new news” about their possible resignations, but that a committee to censure the duo is being formed. It will be led by Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson.

Nury Martinez has stepped down from her seat on the Los Angeles City Council amid the furor over the comments she made on a leaked audio of a conversation with two other colleagues and a top labor official.
“It is with a broken heart that I resign my seat for Council district 6, the community I grew up in and my home,” she said in a statement on Wednesday.
Martinez resigned as City Council president on Monday and then announced the next day that she was taking a leave. But a chorus of top Democrats, including President Joe Biden, have called on her and the two other council members, Kevin de Leon and Gil Cedillo, to also exit.
The leaked audio, in which Martinez was heard making racist remarks about the Black son of one of her council colleagues, Mike Bonin, as well as disparaging remarks about other ethnic groups, has set off a furor.

Activists shut down today’s Los Angeles City Council meeting after vowing to do so until three members caught participating in a racially-charged conversation resign their seats. The council was forced to cancel its regular session due to the vocal protesters in the chamber.
But the three embattled council members — Nury Martinez, Kevin de León and Gil Cedillo — have thus far rebuffed calls for their resignations. Martinez did step down from her leadership role as council president and announce she was taking a “leave of absence” earlier this week. None of the three were in the council chamber Wednesday.
For the second day running, protesters again filled much of the council chamber Wednesday, holding signs and loudly chanting slogans such as “shut it down,” reflecting their desire for the council to halt all of its business until the trio of council members resign their seats.

Lauren London continues to be Nipsey Hussle's number one supporter. On Aug. 15, the actor spoke at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce's Walk of Fame ceremony in Los Angeles after the late rapper was posthumously honored with his own star on what would've been his 37th birthday. It was also officially declared by Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson as Nipsey Hussle Day, Complex reported. Thanks to the prestigious landmark, Hussle's name is forever cemented in his hometown.
London's heartfelt speech at the Los Angeles ceremony started with her saying, "Happy birthday, Hussle," before she expressed gratitude to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. "Thank you for acknowledging a visionary. I think I speak for the entire city of LA when I say that we've always known Hussle was destined for greatness," she said in a video shared by The Shade Room. "This moment only amplifies that for us."

“Do you remember the 21st night of September?” In case you forgot, the city of Los Angeles declared today “Earth, Wind & Fire Day.”
City council members used the designation to recognize the hometown group and their iconic hit “September.”
Earlier this month, Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson invited Earth, Wind & Fire to L.A. City Hall to celebrate. Three members of the group made the trip — Ralph Johnson, Philip Bailey and Verdine White (founder Maurice White died in 2016).
The three were presented with city proclamations and got a chance to hear their single “Let’s Groove” playing in the background.

Not many, if any, of the great music documentaries or concert films have ever screened in the exact location where they were shot: “Woodstock” did not show at Woodstock, and “Wattstax” did not premiere at the L.A. Coliseum, needless to say. But Sunday night, “Amazing Grace” had its official southern California premiere right where the recording of Aretha Franklin’s live gospel album and belated movie accompaniment went down in 1972: the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in South Los Angeles.
Although the word may not exactly fit with the African-American Christian tradition, the word “mecca” was used a lot Sunday, in connection with intentions to turn the church and its surrounding area into a site that will be recognized by the city of L.A. as a civic monument to Franklin.

The African American Film Critics Association has partnered with Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson to present the inaugural Aafca Day at City Hall on April 27, the two announced on Monday.
The day will aim to celebrate film and TV projects that show Los Angeles and its residents through complex and original depictions. This year, USA limited series “Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G.” will be honored, with cast members and collaborators from the show set to gather with the city council on Friday.
“‘Unsolved,’ by showing a full L.A., from areas very familiar to tourists to those known only to natives, is certainly exemplary,” Gil Robertson, president of the Aafca, said in a statement. “In addition to showcasing the notable landscape of the city and the larger metro area, the limited series offers provocative depictions of life in L.A. not often seen or heard elsewhere.
