From the makers of the much-lauded war film Uri comes this patriotic potboiler, and I do mean potboiler in a positive way.
For two braveheart female airforce pilots to plunder their way into enemy territory to rescue an Indian hostage, is a wonderful and welcome whoosh of wishful thinking, and I can’t help being impressed by writer-director’s Sarvesh Mevara’s impunity at doing a Top Gun with Kangana.
Ranaut has a whole harvest of heroic moments to herself. She is an ideal soldier and a wonderful daughter. There is a flashback where she brings her boyfriend (Varun Mitra who always looks like he forgot to check the gas in the kitchen before leaving home) to meet her parents.
Tejas’ father sings a beautiful Punjabi love song (although ironically is his future son-in-law who is a singer). So much better than frowning and smirking at the daughter’s boyfriend.

Renowned Indian actor Dimple Kapadia (“Tenet”) is enjoying a blockbuster 2022-23 with everything she touches turning to gold.
Kapadia had a pivotal role in Disney’s 2022 mythological superhero film “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva.” In 2023, the actor had meaty roles in two of the year’s biggest Bollywood hits, “Pathaan” and “Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar.” And, taking a leaf from the Helen Mirren playbook, Kapadia took an action-heavy headline role in streamer Disney+ Hotstar’s patriarchy shattering drama series “Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo,” which released in May.
The series revolves around four women, the matriarch Savitri (Kapadia), her daughters-in-law and her daughter, who live in a forgotten village in the northwest of India. Savitri runs the Rani Cooperative, trading in products ranging from balms to textiles. But everything here isn’t what it seems – the cottage business is a front for the biggest drug cartel in South Asia.

Isha revealed that Mirzapur 3 is a beast of its own with crazy amounts of twists and turns… It’s a spice recipe for revenge-family dramas!
Isha says, “Madhuri Yadav as we already saw in season 2 had almost snatched power towards the end from Kaleen Bhaiya essayed the wonderful Pankaj Tripathi for reasons best known to her. When you take on such an important character in the show, please accept nothing but great drama intertwined riding on big Eq!

Mumbai, May 2 (Ians) Veteran star Dimple Kapadia is happy to see the female roles evolving as today’s female characters have their own flaws.
Dimple said: “Firstly, it’s high time that we stop calling films and series – male centric or female centric. These are stories in itself, irrespective of the gender of the lead cast, they are stories beyond gender, region and cultures that need to be spoken about and celebrated.”
She added: “However, I am thrilled that stories with dynamic female relationships are evolving and we are seeing women in new characters in every form. Mumbai, April 21 (Ians) ‘Saas Bahu aur Flamingo’ director Homi Adajania spoke about his show and choosing the saas-bahu genre, which, for him, was new. However, he has given his own twist to the web series and tried to make it look fresh and different from usual dramas.
Homi said: “I have known of their popularity, but never been familiar with the saas-bahu genre, though I guess that’s where the name ‘Saas Bahu aur Flamingo’ came from. For me, it was always a story about the women in a very unique family running a drug cartel without the men in the family even knowing about it.”
The show is all about giving a new dimension to mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship, and an attempt to redefine it.
Homi, who is known for ‘Cocktail’, ‘Finding Fanny’, ‘Being Cyrus’, ‘My Choice’, ‘Angrezi Medium’, and many more, added further about the show: “When the men get involved,...

Actors may struggle to embody their characters and detach from them, especially when the role is similar or dissimilar to their personality. Actress Radhika Madan shares her experience of playing Shanta in show ‘Saas Bahu aur Flamingo’ and how the character was different, yet similar to her in real life.
Talking about this, she added, “My character Shanta and I are poles apart in our approach, but I think the only similarity we have is we are both passionate and eager, however, apart from that, we are really very different. Shanta is much more calm, composed, self-assured, confident and calculative when it comes to her words, and being an actor, I do crave for the uncertainty, which drives me to challenge myself at every step and explore the uncharted territories, pushing the envelope further and further.

Actress Dimple Kapadia said in a statement: “‘Saas Bahu aur Flamingo’ is difficult for me to explain as a journey because it’s not like anything I have seen or done before. When tragedy strikes and the world turns its back on her, Savitri doesn’t curl up and die, but rises from the ashes and creates her own destiny. This is what I love about her character. She owns her alternate sense of morality.

Talking about the series, Dimple Kapadia said: “Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo is a story of what makes ordinary people extraordinary in a world full of passion and chaos. It’s a bunch of bad-ass women telling a narrative which is often played only by male characters and believe me, it’s got some of the most colourful characters you’ll ever see. The show is as wild as my crazy Director, Homi Adajania’s mind. He has flipped a family drama on it’s head giving us such a captivating binge-watch.”
The series will tell the story of a mother-in-law who is unapologetically hardcore, and daughters-in-law who are steadfast and formidable.

EntertainmentDirector Shefali Bhushan, and lead actors Shriya Pilgaonkar and Varun Mitra discuss the making of the legal drama, casting, conceptualisation, and more in a chat with Tnm.Saradha UAmazon Prime VideoDevoid of melodramatic monologues from rival lawyers, loud gavels, dramatised clinching testimonies on the witness stand, and judges who are either morally corrupt, or have a holier-than-thou attitude, Amazon Prime Video’s recently released legal drama Guilty Minds has opened to critical acclaim for its nuanced portrayal of Indian legal circles and criminal justice system. Helmed by Shefali Bhushan, who grew up in a family of lawyers, and co-directed by Jayant Digambar Somalkar, the series offers a refreshing and realistic take in a cliche-ridden genre. Speaking to Tnm about the conceptualisation of the series and its writing process, director Shefali Bhushan says, “It started with Manav Bhushan (a biomedical engineer with a law degree) and me in the writers’ room.

Guilty Minds(Amazon Prime Video; 10 Episodes)
Created & Directed by Shefali Bhushan; Co-directed by Jayant Digambar Samalkar
It is not as if this series blows your mind off with its legal wisdom. Nor is it only about getting the courtroom sequences right. Both in place, Guilty Minds sets out to score points for being able to hijack our attention for ten episodes. Not all of it is equally engrossing. But the storytelling even when faltering and fumbling to cram in too many social issues(including an utterly unnecessary child-abuse end-game) never ceases to be compelling.
Primarily, Guilty Minds works because it doesn’t try to penetrate too far into the minds of the perpetrators. It is all done on the surface level, but with immense care and concentration, so that an impression of focused narration and uninterrupted tension is created even when the plot meanders into the characters’ personal lives which...

OTTThough the series takes its time to hook the viewer, it makes for an engaging and realistic courtroom drama that doesn’t fall back on cliches.Sowmya RajendranGuilty Minds, created and directed by Shefali Bhushan with Jayant Digambar Samalkar as co-director, is centered on a principled woman lawyer in Delhi, Kashaf Quaze (Shriya Pilgaonkar), intertwining her personal and professional experiences. Given the stereotypical representations of Muslim characters, particularly Muslim women, on screen, Kashaf comes across as a breath of fresh air. She’s neither a terrorist in training nor an oppressed woman looking to be ‘liberated’ from her burqa. Just the ordinariness of her character is startling when it shouldn’t be. The first season of the web series, spread over 10 episodes of around 50 minutes each, tracks Kashaf’s cases that range from a woman actor who makes a #MeToo allegation against a supposedly feminist director to a security officer...

Everyone makes decisions daily which they later regret as its consequences cause unforeseen issues. Sometimes its not too bad, sometimes its life changing. Jalebi: The Everlasting Taste of Love follows Varun Mitra and Rhea Chakraborty through just one of these decisions and its consequences. Samuel-Akanksha get to bookend this album with their first track Tum Se. ‘Tum Se’ is sung by Jubin Nautiyal whose silken voice is quickly becoming popular and well-known in the industry. In this version he can bring it to the fore with nothing but a drum providing a heartbeat. The music directors keep adding instruments, but they seem to take more the form of adding...
