Outlander season seven’s midseason finale featured the Battles of Saratoga through the eyes of Jamie and Claire on the American side and William Ransom on the British side. The episode shows the British forces surrendering after the Americans overwhelmed British fortifications.
Although several famous Revolutionary figures have been both name-checked and featured in this season, Benedict Arnold is arguably one of the most interesting of them all. Arnold is introduced as a very friendly man and a key strategist in the plan to defeat the British. Claire mentions to Jamie that history only remembers him for betraying the American cause. How close is Claire’s fictional assessment to real history?
Arnold’s involvement in the Revolutionary War on the American side began when he was elected to captain in the Connecticut militia in March 1775. This overlaps with the events of last season. It was Arnold...

Starz’s Outlander season seven episode eight – the mid-season finale – opens with Jamie (Sam Heughan) still unconscious on the battlefield. A mother and her son are stealing items off the dead when Jamie coughs. Claire (Caitriona Balfe) arrives just in time to stop the thieves from slitting Jamie’s throat, holding them off by grabbing a sword and threatening to kill them if they don’t back off.
Don’t mess with badass Claire in full protective mode!
Claire berates her husband for getting injured in hand-to-hand combat. He’s a sniper and not supposed to be in the thick of the fight, and Claire calls him a “vainglorious, pig-headed, grandstanding Scot.” The only word Jamie takes exception to is grandstanding.
Claire admits he scared her, and Jamie thanks the love of his life for saving him again.

New York, Aug 7(Ians) While artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT are making their way into everyday use, doctors are less likely to adopt them over lack of skills to interpret and act according to it, finds a study.
Like every other industry, physicians will soon start to see AI tools incorporated into their clinical practice to help them make important decisions on diagnosis and treatment of common medical conditions.
These tools, called clinical decision support (Cds) algorithms, can be enormously helpful in helping guide health care providers in determining, for example, which antibiotics to prescribe or whether to recommend a risky heart surgery.
The success of these new technologies, however, depends largely on how physicians interpret and act upon a tool’s risk predictions — and that requires a unique set of skills that many are currently lacking, according to a new perspective article published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Starz’s Outlander season seven episode seven finds Roger and Brianna getting to know Buck, while back in 1777, Jamie takes part in the first Battle of Saratoga. It’s a jam-packed episode that ends with heart-stopping cliffhangers for both timelines.
Episode seven, “A Practical Guide for Time-Travelers,” opens with the Continental Army set up in Bemis Heights, NY in September 1777. It’s just outside of Saratoga, and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) writes to Bree, telling her she’s uneasy about Jamie being a part of Daniel Morgan’s riflemen. She also reveals that she met William at Fort Ticonderoga and that seeing him made her miss Bree even more.
Meanwhile, the British army’s camped near Stillwater, NY, and William Ransome (Charles Vandervaart) joins the officers in a discussion of the state of the army. The Husseins are also involved in this meeting,...

The divide between millennials and baby boomers feels as big as it ever has. With social media providing a voice to those whose opinions are better left unsaid, the noise and expectations from both ‘sides’ can be overwhelming at times. Animator Marnik Loysen, who also works at British animation powerhouse Aardman, channels this sense of an overly-saturated opinion culture into his latest short Brunch, about a young man who heads out to his local café to enjoy some avocado on toast before being inundated with the voices of varying generations around him. It’s a really funny film but it’s also poignant and spot-on in how it captures that snowed-under feeling that is present in contemporary society. Dn spoke with Loysen to learn about the origins of Brunch, why the generational divide is the perfect topic for a stop-motion format and the process of creating the film almost entirely remotely.

Warning: contains spoilers for Line of Duty series six, episode two.
From the Brink’s-Mat Robbery, to predatory sex offender Jimmy Savile, the scripts for police drama Line of Duty are peppered with mention of real-world criminal cases. Blending reality and fiction cements the show’s naturalism and feeds into each series’ themes.
Series six revolves around the investigation into the murder of fictional journalist Gail Vella, played by Andi Osho. The first episode opens just over a year since Vella was fatally shot outside her home, in which time no suspects have been charged. The officer leading the investigation is suspected of a cover-up, which is thought to explain the lack of progress on the case, and brings Line of Duty’s anti-corruption leads into proceedings.
In episode two, a likely motive for Vella’s murder is uncovered. The journalist was investigating links between police corruption and organised crime,...
