Is “SNL” new tonight? No. NBC’s late night sketch comedy series is taking a few weeks off, but it will return on Saturday, May 4 with host and musical guest Dua Lipa. The entertainer previously served as the musical guest to Natalie Portman in 2018 and to Kristen Wiig in 2020, but this will be her first time as the host.
The regular cast members for “Saturday Night Live” Season 49 are, in credits order: Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, James Austin Johnson, Punkie Johnson, Colin Jost, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang. The featured players are: Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, Chloe Troast and Devon Walker. In a move of solidarity, none of the cast members from last year’s strike-truncated 48th cycle have departed.

Nielsen live-plus-seven-day data for Ryan Gosling’s Saturday Night Live episode has arrived, and the results are positive.
With Gosling as host, and Chris Stapleton as musical guest, the April 13, 2024 edition of SNL delivered 7,510,000 linear viewers. That represents the show’s largest total linear audience since Dec. 10, 2022, when Steve Martin and Martin Short were co-hosts, and Brandi Carlile was the musical guest. Additionally, the Gosling-led episode delivered 1,727,000 P18-49 linear viewers, the show’s largest P18-49 linear audience since Oct. 14, 2023, when Pete Davidson hosted the Season 49 premiere.
The Gosling-SNL story is even stronger if one takes into account episode viewing across digital platforms: 8.9 million total viewers and 2.64 million P18-49 viewers. Not only do the 8.9 million and 2.64 million represent season highs for the show, but the 8.9 million is SNL’s largest cross-platform audience since Dec. 11, 2021, when Billie Eilish was both the host and musical guest.

The April 13 Saturday Night Live, with host Ryan Gosling and musical guest Chris Stapleton, had several talked-about moments, from Gosling’s monologue with his Fall Guy co-star Emily Blunt to a Beavis and Butt-head sketch that caused cast member Heidi Gardner to break down laughing. Taylor Swift also gave a thumbs-up to Gosling and Blunt’s Barbenheimer-themed reworking of “All Too Well.”
The water-cooler nature of the episode paid off in the ratings, as SNL hit some of its best numbers of recent years. After a week of cross-platform viewing, the episode drew 8.9 million viewers and a 2.0 rating (equivalent to about 2.64 million people) in the adults 18-49 demographic, both of which are season highs.
More than season highs, in fact: SNL had its best showing in total viewers since Dec. 11, 2021, when Billie Eilish was both the host and musical guest. The show also hit its best 18-49 rating since Nov.

Ryan Gosling is not a dumbass; heh heh, heh, heh heh heh, heh! Thanks in large part to a “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch that went viral, Gosling’s “Saturday Night Live” episode is the most-watched “SNL” since late 2021.
Counting one week’s worth of delayed viewing (which is fine and normal but really helps when something goes viral) and all platforms, the April 13, 2024 telecast of “SNL” drew 8.9 million total viewers, according to NBC. That’s the most since Billie Eilish hosted the program on December 11, 2021.
The Gosling episode, for which he was promoting film “The Fall Guy,” is the most-watched “SNL” episode ever on Peacock. Gosling’s musical guest was Chris Stapleton.
On YouTube, 46 million users have “viewed a portion of the episode,” NBC said, the most since 2020. That’s an important specificity given the viral nature of the “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch. In all, there were 170 million social-video views...

Ryan Gosling attracted Saturday Night Live‘s biggest audience in years.
The actor’s April 13 episode, which also featured musical guest Chris Stapleton, drew 8.9M viewers after seven days, according to NBCUniversal. In the 18 to 49 demo, the episode is up to a 2.0 rating.
That’s the show’s largest seven-day audience since Billie Eilish hosted in December 2021, and it’s the best demo performance since Dave Chappelle’s last hosting gig in November 2022.
In terms of streaming, NBCU says Gosling now lays claim to the most-watched episode of Saturday Night Live ever on Peacock.
Gosling and the SNL cast members couldn’t stop breaking character throughout the episode, which only added to the hilarity of the sketches — as proven by the 46M views that the episode’s sketches have gotten on YouTube (the most since 2020).
Saturday Night Live returns May 4 with Dua Lipa pulling double duty as host and musical guest.

It’s a few hours before I’m supposed to meet Elvie Shane at a racetrack in Bowling Green, Kentucky, when my phone starts blowing up.
The lanky, tattoo-covered country singer, who scored a Number One hit with “My Boy” in 2020, is meeting me to put the 2024 Corvette E-Ray — top speed 183 mph — through its paces, and Shane is texting to say how excited he is to lay down some rubber.

Slash teams up with composer Bear McCreary for an epic new song “The End of Tomorrow” from the latter’s forthcoming album, The Singularity, arriving May 3rd.
The near-11-minute track opens with an instrumental orchestral intro before Slash’s guitar cuts through the mix. His tone and style are immediately recognizable, with McCreary entrusting the Guns N’ Roses axeman with the main melodic lines in the arrangement.
Get Slash Tickets Here
Bear’s brother, Brendan McCreary, contributes lead vocals to the track and assumes a prominent role, as the song traverses many movements and cinematic turns — not surprising given Bear’s background in film, television, and video game scores.
For those approaching the song via Slash’s notable guest spot — namely Gn’R fans — “The End of Tomorrow” immediately recalls “November Rain” in its maximalism and narrative weight, and the Use Your Illusion masterpiece was a direct influence according to McCreary.

John Mayer has legendary status among watch lovers. A major collector for years — renowned not only for his connoisseurship of luxury timepieces but also his knowledge of what makes some of the most complicated examples tick — he’s now joined the ranks of the few celebrities (LeBron James, Travis Scott) who have designed a watch in collaboration with Audemars Piguet.
Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak “John Mayer” Limited Edition
The new Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition is a grail-worthy watch specimen. In addition to its perpetual calendar complication — one of the most technically precise functions to pull off, in that it can accurately track and show the correct date of the month, no matter the length of the month or whether it’s a leap year — the new timepiece features a gorgeous deep-blue dial meant to evoke a starry, crystalline sky. The watch face also boasts a moon phase with glittery aventurine.

Jimmy Kimmel may have lost a vice president, but he’s gaining a Southern rocker.
While Kamala Harris had to take a raincheck on her planned Tuesday appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, it turns out hers wasn’t the only special visit the host had planned this week. As Variety reports, Kimmel is resurrecting his outdoor concert stage on Wednesday with Chris Stapleton as his first performer.
Kimmel’s al fresco stage, which is located in the parking lot behind his Hollywood studio, has the capacity to hold more than 1,000 concert-goers and has featured an all-star lineup of artists in the past. Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Elton John, Prince, No Doubt, Usher, and Snoop Dogg are just a few of the performers who have entertained Kimmel’s crowd over the years. But this week’s performance will mark the first in more than four years.

After a shortened 2022-23 season, Saturday Night Live returned a bit later than usual to kick off its 2023-24 run.
The writers strike affected both the end of last season and the start of season 49; the end of the labor action on Sept. 25 meant a mid-October start for SNL — with former castmember Pete Davidson hosting — rather than the late September or early October premiere the show usually has. Ryan Gosling returned to “SNL” this week in a cold open with “Barbie” co-star Kate McKinnon, reviving one of their most famous sketches, “Close Encounter,” in which they recount being abducted by aliens and their vastly different experiences aboard the spaceship.
The original sketch debuted eight years ago and featured Gosling and McKinnon, alongside Cecily Strong (it currently has 60 million views on YouTube). The actor also recreated this sketch on his second time hosting six years ago. In every attempt to act through “Close Encounter” Gosling has heroically attempted to get through McKinnon’s genius bit without breaking, every time he has failed. Endearingly, Gosling broke again at least once during this one.
Bowen Yang and Mike Day played Nsa investigators in tonight’s cold open. Day tells Gosling, McKinnon, and Sarah Sherman, “Now you’re all here because you’ve experienced a verified alien abduction.”

Ryan Gosling just couldn’t let go of his character Ken from Barbie during his Saturday Night Live monologue.
Though he initially said he wasn’t going to talk about Ken because he “broke up” with the character after going “too deep,” he ultimately decided to sing about his feelings with a rendition of Taylor Swift’s hit song “All Too Well.”
“You know, when you play a character that hard, that long, just letting go feels like a breakup and for processing a breakup, there’s really only one thing that can help: The music of the great Taylor Swift,” the La La Land actor said.
Gosling then proceeded to sing, “I shredded Venice Beach is true / My clothes were tight / But something about that spandex felt so right / I left my rollerblades in that big pink house / But I still got that fur coat and I’ll wear...

Ryan Gosling kicked off the April 13 episode of Saturday Night Live with two huge moments!
The 43-year-old The Fall Guy actor is hosting with Chris Stapleton as his musical guest.
During the cold open, he reunited with his Barbie costar Kate McKinnon to revisit their iconic alien abduction skit to the delight of the audience.
If you forgot, back in 2017, the pair starred in a sketch where they were being debriefed after being abducted by aliens. They had dramatically different experiences with their abductors, and Ryan went viral for breaking character as Kate detailed her wild journey.
It turns out that they managed to get abducted again before tonight’s episode!
This time around, Ryan broke out in laughter while recalling how they aliens were inspecting his “troll nose” (aka his member).
That was just a warmup for his opening monologue where he was joined by Emily Blunt for one...

Slash has unveiled the latest single from his upcoming blues album, Orgy of the Damned, set to arrive on May 17th. The Guns N’ Roses guitarist teams up with country superstar Chris Stapleton on a cover of Fleetwood’s Mac’s “Oh Well.”
The freewheeling guitar playing from Slash and the raspy vocal delivery from Stapleton add a gritty vibe to Fleetwood Mac’s original 1969 song, a bluesy garage number that was penned and sung by singer-guitarist Peter Green.

Slash said of the song in a press release, “So, this is the original Fleetwood Mac, which was founded by Peter Green, one of the greatest singer-songwriter-guitar players, he’s less known in the public, but very well known to us guitar players re the 60s British blues and he’s up there with Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Mick Taylor. In Thursday’s Saturday Night Live promo, Ryan Gosling and musical guest Chris Stapleton had to contend with the comedy show’s wackiest performer, Sarah Sherman.
On the first take, Gosling just finished his intro when Sherman showed up in full cowgirl regalia.
“Sarah, you said it would be weird if we dressed up for Chris,” Gosling said.
“I dressed up for me, little lady” Sherman insisted, and Stapleton acknowledged that he loved her hat.
“You look so cool,” Gosling lamented.
“You look good, too, Ryan,” Stapleton tagged.
In the second bit, Sherman had a wee bit of trouble finding the camera. Find out why in the video.

Ryan Gosling doesn’t need anything but his cowboy hat and the long, open road in the promotional clip for his upcoming Saturday Night Live gig. The actor will host this weekend’s episode with musical guest Chris Stapleton — though Gosling, a huge Stapleton fan, was admittedly a little nervous to talk to the country star, uncertain of how to go about asking for an autograph.
“Mr. Stapleton, big fan. Love your music,” Gosling said to himself, trying out the introduction before scrapping it with a swift “No, that’s stupid.

Luke Combs is the man of the hour. The 59th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday morning, April 9, and Combs came out on top with eight bids, including Entertainer of the Year. Check out the complete list of nominations here.
This is Combs’s fifth nomination in a row for Entertainer of the Year, an award he has yet to win. This year he’s up against Kane Brown, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and lone female nominee Lainey Wilson. Women are consistently underrepresented in Entertainer of the Year, though Carrie Underwood won in 2020 (in a tie with Thomas Rhett) and Miranda Lambert finally prevailed in 2022. But we mustn’t underestimate Wilson here. She pulled off a huge upset at the CMA Awards last fall, claiming Entertainer of the Year despite being relatively new on the scene.

“Fast Car” continues to drive Luke Combs and Tracy Chapman to the top — this time, at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Combs is the top contender this year with eight nominations, competing for entertainer of the year as well as single and song of the year with “Fast Car.” He shares the latter nomination with Chapman, who wrote the song alone and had major success with it in 1988, 35 years before Combs brought new life to the track and made it a country hit.
Chapman won in the same category at last year’s Country Music Association Awards, becoming the first Black person to do so. She and Combs earned praise for teaming up for a live performance of the song at February’s Grammy Awards, where Combs was nominated for his version of the song; Chapman won two Grammys for her original version.

Jelly Roll was the big winner at the CMT Music Awards for the second year in a row. Except this time, for the first time, his victories included the top award of the night: Video of the Year. Check out the complete list of winners here.
This year Jelly Roll won all three of his nominations: Video of the Year and Male Video of the Year for “Need a Favor,” and CMT Performance of the Year for his live performance of “Need a Favor” at the 2023 CMT Music Awards. Last year he also won Male Video of the Year (for “Son of a Sinner”) in addition to Male Breakthrough Video of the Year and CMT Digital-First Performance of the Year (also for “Son of a Sinner”). It seems, judging from his undefeated streak at these awards so far, that Jelly Roll has one of the most passionate fan bases in current country music.

Other winners in the all-fan-voted results included fellow frontrunner Lainey Wilson for female video of the year for “Watermelon Moonshine” and Dan + Shay for duo/group video for “Save Me the Trouble.” Warren Zeiders picked up breakthrough male video for “Pretty Little Poison,” while Ashley Cooke won equivalent honors for breakthrough female video for “Your Place.
