Cheng Cheng Films Presents “Ever Since We Love“, on streamers and DVD on 12/14/2021.
“The female leads here still manage to shine… Fan Bingbing is impressive as always as Qing Liu, particularly in the way she changes from a kind of femme fatale to a vulnerable, sensitive woman, in a role that is a bit more sensuous than her previous cooperations with Li Yu, an approach she seems to thrive in.” Panos Kotzathanasis, Asian Movie Pulse
“Death is somewhat present in all the love scenes. Such symbols detach audience passion and create an unbridgeable gap between ideologies of the film and of the patriarchal original book…The lively female characters with their own desire and agency deconstruct Qiu Shui’s male gaze and are enabled by the filmmaker to look back.” Huiyuan Bai, ArtGuide

An adaption of Feng Tang’s semi-autobiographical best-seller “Everything Grows”, “Ever Since We Love” continues the successful recipe of having Yu Li on the helm and Fan Bingbing as the protagonist, although this time, the focus is on a male character, played here by K-pop sensation “Super Junior” ‘s former member Han Geng, while the story takes place in the 80s.

Qiu Shui is a 4th year medical student at China’s top medical college, although, like most people his age including his classmates, the whole world feels a bit erotic. Somewhere between drinking, cracking jokes, and studying anatomy, he also retains a relationship with Lu Bai, a rather quirky, high-maintenance classmate, who seems to be genuinely in love with him. At the same time, he is tormented by the ghost of his first relationship with Xiaoman,...

The quirky, off-beat comedy is a style Japanese filmmakers always had a knack for, with a number of them taking place in the small islands around the mainland, which seem to include their own sense of eccentricity. Following the same path with movies like “Okinawan Blue”, Takumi Takashima has his story unfolding in the island of Enishi, where the curse of Princess Kasumi continues to impact the lives of the locals.
“The Legend of Princess Kasumi” screened at the 42nd Pia Film Festival
The protagonist, Kobayashi, travels to this island with his girlfriend, Miyauchi, who asks him on a beach whether he is truly in love with her. However, at that point, the aforementioned curse turns Miyauchi into a clay figurine, leaving Kobayashi shattered, since he cannot understand where his girlfriend has gone. Eventually he leaves the island, but one night, he is told in his dream to “return to...

Cambodia’s first action road-trip comedy “Gems on the Run” is Sok Visal’s directorial debut, co-directed with Quentin Clausin. The movie premiered at the Cambodia International Film Festival and was shown in numerous festivals around Southeast Asia.
At the end of the 90s, Rith, Dara, and Sovan promise each other they will stay friends forever. Fifteen years on, they have drifted apart and are leading completely different lives. Rith (Cheki Athiporn) spinelessly follows his father’s wishes both by becoming a policeman and almost marrying the annoying and bossy Pretty (Noun Lihoung), all while hoping of becoming a pop singer. Sovan (Vandy Piseth) has become a member of one of the biggest crime syndicates in Cambodia and is living ruthlessly while dreaming of emigrating to America. And Dara has died. In a word, there is no prospect for the three to ever meet again.
However, after a botched robbery...

Strange news comes from the land of the rising sun. There has been movement in the Bandage film camp. Seems like Kitamura got caught selling Meiji Gummy Choco’s to the fat kids and got himself kicked out. There are new faces!
First, there is a new director for the project. Music producer Takeshi Kobayashi will helm his first fictional motion picture. He doesn’t have much of a resume on film making but he has proven his chops in the music world. He did the music for the movie’s scriptwriter Shunji Iwai’s Swallowtail [1996] and All About Lily Chou-Chou [2001]. They are both producing Eriko Kitagawa’s Harufuwei/Halfway due out in February 2009. So they have a good working relationship at least.
Second, Kat-tun member Jin Akanishi makes his silver screen debut with the starring role in the movie. Akanishi has had plenty of television roles the last nine...
