Will Tristan Be Back for Another Season
The third season concluded with a heartbreaking cliffhanger as Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) decided to enlist in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps to prove his worth and contribute to his country's war effort. With its feel-good storylines and delightful banter, All Creatures Great and Small remains the TV equivalent of comfort food, but after four seasons, the days of stability in Skeldale House are long gone.
In Season 4, the characters experienced a series of major life transitions, including the birth of James (Nicholas Ralph) and Helen Herriot's (Rachel Shenton) first child and housekeeper Mrs. Hall's (Anna Madeley) divorce, all while navigating the realities of World War II — namely, the absence of Tristan Farnon (Callum Woodhouse), who's serving on the front lines with the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, and James' imminent departure for the Royal Air Force. Tensions were high as headstrong veterinary surgeon Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) struggled to control his emotions, but with the help of Mrs. Hall and new vet student Richard Carmody (James Anthony-Rose), he pushed through, and the Skeldale family emerged from the season-ending Christmas special stronger than ever.

Callum Woodhouse's Tristan Farnon doesn't appear in All Creatures Great and Small Season 4, but his absence casts a long shadow over the six-episode season (and the accompanying Christmas special). With Tristan gone and Britain losing the war against the Nazis, the residents of Skeldale House struggle to keep their anxiety in check, and both their home and the veterinary practice are thrown into disarray as a result. To get through it, they must lean on one another like never before — and if there's one thing Ben Vanstone's British drama continues to do consistently, it's to remind viewers that there's power in numbers, particularly when coupled with good intentions and a hopeful outlook.

The film is set during World War II. The creature? A human-fish hybrid!
Variety details, “Set in the Pacific, 1942, a Japanese ship transports prisoners of war to occupied territories as slave labor. After being torpedoed by allied submarines, a Japanese soldier and a British Pow are stranded on a deserted island, but soon discover they are not alone.
“They are being hunted by a ferocious mythological creature, the Orang Ikan, a human-fish hybrid. Unable to communicate in each other’s language, the two mortal enemies must come together to survive the unknown.”
Mike Wiluan wrote the script and will be directing.
Producer Eric Khoo tells Variety, “I grew up on a steady diet of horror movies which ranged from the supernatural to monster flicks.

Heartstopper star Kit Connor says he doesn’t want to be defined by the term “queer actor”, after his breakthrough role as bisexual school rugby star Nick Nelson in the Netflix mega-hit.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “All Creatures Great and Small” Season 3 finale, including the ending.]
“All Creatures Great and Small” continues to arrive at a point in world history where every new season has been able to draft off of something greater. The search for something warm and inviting in the latter part of 2020 led many viewers to the show. Now, it’s become a years-long process to integrate the real world so that the town of Darrowby doesn’t become a fantasy.
For the PBS series’ head writer Ben Vanstone, “All Creatures Great and Small” has been a chance to embrace the world at large, rather than pretend it doesn’t exist.
“When we were getting into shooting [Season] 3, Ukraine was invaded by Russia. We were in-pandemic a bit when we were writing it. We were doing episodes about TB testing, where it’s all about the greater good. With the looming war on the horizon,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the All Creatures Great and Small Season 3 finale, “Merry Bloody Christmas.”] The Farnon brothers are huggers now. As the third season of the Masterpiece drama All Creatures Great and Small concluded Sunday night on PBS, Samuel West’s Siegfried Farnon bid farewell to his younger brother Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) with a surprisingly demonstrative embrace. Tristan, expecting a simple handshake as he was about to board a train and leave England’s Yorkshire Dales to begin his World War II military service, appeared shocked and then overcome with emotion at the gesture. “Are we huggers now?” he asked, to which Siegfried declared, “Yes, we bloody well are. I’m so damn proud of you.” West’s and Woodhouse’s heartfelt performances were high points of an impressive season, set in 1939, that began with a joyful wedding for James and Helen (Nicholas Ralph and Rachel Shenton) and ventured into weightier territory as war broke out ...

When last we left Darrowby, there was cause for celebration. With longtime crushes James (Nicholas Ralph) and Helen (Rachel Shenton) newly engaged and a deepening sense of trust between brothers Siegfried (Samuel West) and Tristan (Callum Woodhouse), it seemed like “All Creatures Great and Small” was settling into a new chapter of evolving happiness for all involved. But at the tail end of a heartwarming Christmas special, the final moments signaled something else that lay ahead: a warplane flying overhead as Mrs. Hall (Anna Madeley), the beating heart of Skeldale House, looks on with a knowing, concerned stare.
Season 3 of the series, premiering stateside on PBS this week after airing on Channel 5 in the UK, follows through on that farewell hint. These new episodes of “All Creatures Great and Small” venture out farther to the show’s opposite emotional poles than it has before, a small feat for a...

1830, just outside the town of Raven’s Hollow, five West Point cadets, Edgar Allan Poe, yes the writer, Lawrence Bishop (Kyle Rowe; The Brothers Grimsby), Will Taylor, Thomas Cricke (Michael Guest; Balance) and Lutz Becker come across a man disemboweled and hung up like a scarecrow.
In true cinematic fashion, he has just enough life left in him to utter a single word, “Raven”, before dying. Poe convinces the others it’s their duty to bring his body to town for proper burial. What they find is a town that is almost deserted, its inhabitants in the middle of a funeral for a girl we saw die a most unnatural death in the film’s prologue. It quickly...

Last October, we shared the news that Battle of the Damned director Christopher Hatton‘s mystery horror / supernatural thriller Raven’s Hollow, which stars William Moseley (The Chronicles of Narnia) as Edgar Allan Poe, had landed a distribution deal with the Shudder streaming service. Shudder has now announced that they’ll be releasing Raven’s Hollow on September 22nd – and along with that announcement comes the unveiling of a trailer for the film, which you can watch in the embed above.
Inspired by Poe’s mysterious exit from the Military Academy at West Point, Raven’s Hollow is set in the fall of 1830 and has the following synopsis:
West Point military Cadet Edgar Allan Poe and four other cadets on a training exercise in upstate New York come upon a man eviscerated on a bizarre wooden rack. His dying words direct them to a forgotten community, which they believe is guarding sinister secrets.

"I couldn't say what it is… Spirit…? Devil…? Indians call it 'bad medicine.'" Shudder has revealed an official trailer for a mysterious Edgar Allan Poe thriller titled Raven's Hollow, from writer / director Christopher Hatton. This one actually features the character of Edgar Allan Poe as himself, not an adaptation of one of his stories. Raven's Hollow follows Poe in his time as a cadet at West Point in upstate New York. The film is set in the autumn of 1830, where Poe and four other cadets are doing a training exercise in upstate New York. The five cadets come across a man hanging on a wooden rack. When Poe comes to help the man, he utters his dying word, "raven," which sets Poe and his fellow cadets into the strange, rural community of Raven's Hollow, a town with some pretty dark and twisted secrets. William Moseley stars as Mr. Poe,...

During the worst of the pandemic, PBS and Channel 5 drama “All Creatures Great and Small” became the essential, wholesome viewing audiences craved in troubled times.
Now, the beloved show about a group of country veterinarians in England’s Yorkshire Dales is about to embark on its own dark chapter as its characters look ahead to the horrors of World War II.
At a virtual TCA presentation on Thursday, producer Colin Callender of Playground Entertainment and Susanne Simpson of PBS’ “Masterpiece” joined cast members including Nicholas Ralph, Samuel West, Callum Woodhouse and Anna Madeley to discuss Season 3, which premieres in the U.K. in September and on “Masterpiece” on Jan. 8.
“When we launched, we wanted to give each character a real backstory so we could really explore that,” explained Callender. “In [Season 3] in particular, we dug deep and made these characters more complex and full-blooded. There are some wonderful moments for each character.

‘All Creatures Great and Small’ Review: A Gentle Classic in the Making Grows Even Deeper in Season 2
It’s a fundamental aim of most TV shows to fill the screen with characters who are recognizable and familiar yet still have ample room to grow. In the first episode of Season 2 of “All Creatures Great and Small,” Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) offers one sage bit of advice: “To conquer the ziggurat of life, one must climb the first step.” It’s a line so firmly in the senior veterinarian’s wheelhouse that it’s said with a knowing smile. Yet, the magic of this second season, premiering on PBS this week after airing on Channel 5 in the UK last fall, is that each detail is delivered with such care and confidence that it is unabashedly itself. The baby animals, the pining from afar, the sweeping green hills of Northern England all return as the cozy delights that made the show’s initial season one of the best...

“All Creatures Great and Small,” the wholesome reboot of the popular British veterinarian drama, is returning for Seasons 3 and 4.
U.K. broadcaster Channel 5 and PBS Masterpiece in the U.S. have officially signed on for two more seasons of the Playground-produced drama. Each season will get a 6-episode order, along with a Christmas special. PBS Masterpiece, which will debut Season 2 on Sunday (Jan. 9), is co-producing along with distributor All3Media International selling the series globally.
The show is based on a series of books written by vet Alf Wight under the pen name of James Herriot. An early adaptation of the books, also called “All Creatures Great and Small,” aired on the BBC from 1978 to 1990 and was enormously popular. ViacomCBS-backed broadcaster Channel 5 rebooted the show in 2020 to critical acclaim — a ballsy move given it was one of the broadcaster’s first attempts at scripted content, having been a historically unscripted channel.

The Best New TV Series of 2021 — What to Watch for Years to Come, from ‘Acapulco’ to ‘Yellowjackets’
One of the best aspects of television is its ability to tell long-lasting stories. Whether they’re episodic or serialized, TV series invite us to visit again and again, for years on end, as characters grow, stories develop, and ideas proliferate. If you’re lucky, a cherished TV show can last through the awkwardness of adolescence, the glory days of high school, or even mature along with you into middle-age. Not everything has to last that long and all stories must end, but some of the most beloved programs can lull us into believing they never will.
With that unique attribute in mind, IndieWire has assembled the best new series on TV in 2021 — not limited series, not one-and-done specials, and not “six-hour movies”. These are the new shows that you can look forward to watching season after season, for years to come. We’ve got nothing against short-term treats like “Mare of Easttown” and “Maid,...

Apple TV Plus set Chris Miller and Phil Lord’s “The Afterparty” for a January 2022 debut and released a teaser for the upcoming murder mystery.
The show is set at a high school reunion, and each of the eight episodes retells the events of the night through a different character’s perspective — and therefore unique visual style.
“This is one of the most surprising, original and fun projects we’ve ever made,” said Lord and Miller. “Our goal was to tell a comedic whodunit story in a new and exciting way. By giving each episode its own unique style of storytelling, we were able to make what feels like eight distinctly different but interconnected films that highlight how everyone’s personal perspective and biases shape how they see the world.”
The show stars Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, Zoë Chao, Ben Schwartz, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer, Jamie Demetriou and Dave Franco.
