About a year ago, comic book author James Tynion IV was on a long drive back to New York City from a friend’s engagement upstate when he got an email from French artist Elsa Charretier asking him if he’d be interested in writing the script for a short film she and longtime partner Pierrick Colinet were making.
The reaction from Tynion, the best-selling creator who has several comics on the go such as Something Is Killing the Children and Department of Truth as well as a Substack comic newsletter, was an almost immediate no. “I’m working on a million things, I don’t have time for this,” Tynion thought.
“By the time I got back to the city, I got an idea in my head, and I was like, ‘Yes, I want to do this,’” Tynion recalled in a Zoom conversation with The Hollywood Reporter.

This article contains Batman spoilers for Detective Comics #1062.
You know a creative team is going to make a big splash when DC Comics redesigns the logo of their longest running series, and the very book that gave the company its name. That’s exactly what happened in honor of Detective Comics #1062, the original home of Batman, when Ram V and Rafael Albuquerque moved in to Gotham City to tell an exceptionally gothic (even by Batman standards) tale that begins with “Gotham Nocturne.”
Whatever’s going on in “Gotham Nocturne” it probably isn’t good news for Bruce Wayne or Jim Gordon. Every bit as moody and operatic as that “Nocturne” title hints at, this new Batman tale introduces a mysterious new group of villains, the Orghams, and is drenched in stunning art and cinematic color. Ram V told us what it all means, and what’s next for Batman in the pages of Detective Comics.

DC Comics "Detective Comics" #1062, available July 26, 2022, is written by Ram V., Simon Spurrier, illustrated by Rafael Albuquerque and Dani, with covers by Evan Cagle, Lee Bermejo, J.H. Williams and InHyuk Lee:
"...something is terribly wrong with 'Batman'. No matter the tests 'Bruce' takes, nor the numbers he counts, the greatest detective in the world can't pin down the source of this creeping dread -- of his own inner demons and a looming mortality.
"Meanwhile, real demons roam the shadows as an ancient melody haunts the 'Gotham' night. Here now the curtains rise and as the eerie tune streams in...who is human, who is demon, who is to tell?
"As Batman investigates the songs and the demons of Gotham, he is forced to confront the oldest question...whether there has been a demon within him all along...and if so, what does it want?..."

Set during the 1800s in a small, snowbound town in Montana, the new Stout Club horror western comic book series Hailstone is currently two issues into its five-issue digital run on ComiXology. Ahead of the third issue's July 13th release, we caught up with writer Rafael Scavone in a new Q&a feature to discuss the comic's multi-year journey to being made, the historical research that went into the period piece, and the importance of representation for the indigenous peoples of the United States in the story of Hailstone.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer questions for us, Rafael, and congratulations on your new comic book series Hailstone! When did you initially get the idea for this series?
Rafael Scavone: Thank you so much for having me! Usually I spend quite a lot of time maturing the ideas, until I feel like they are ready to become a story.

Jim Lee, Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics is the very definition of a comics lifer. And as a lifer with an audience and a platform, he’s stepping up to help comic shops that are closed because of Covid-19 stay-at-home orders around the world.
Lee decided as these stay-at-home orders started to roll in that he would draw one sketch a day for 60 days; auction the sketches on eBay; let the auction winners pick the subject of the next sketch; and donate the proceeds to the Book Industry Charitable (Binc) foundation. And we are excited to reveal Lee’s next sketch subject: Grifter and Zealot

Prodigy is a comic series that was put out by Mark Millar and Netflix last December, and now it seems it’s getting the movie treatment sooner rather than later.
Millar is the brilliant mind behind some great characters such as Hit-Girl, Kick-Ass and Eggsy from Kingsman. But the talented creator truly believes that Edison Crane will be the one that he’ll be remembered for, similar to how Ian Fleming’s associated with James Bond above everything else.
For those unfamiliar, Crane’s the main character in Prodigy, the comic drawn by artist Rafael Albuquerque and published by Image Comics. The story follows the world’s smartest man and self-promoted global crisis fixer and according to our sources – the same ones who told us that Taskmaster would be the main villain in Black Widow and that Transformers is being rebooted, both of which have since been confirmed – Michael B. Secrets of Sinister House pits Red Rain Batman against an actual Owlman for Batgirl's life...and Harley Quinn in a haunted clown motel.
DC has been doing this holiday anthology thing for a few years now, and I'm stunned at how many of them have been pleasant surprises. In the past, fans might want to temper expectations for these, but that hasn't been the case lately, and with DC's horror anthology The Secrets of Sinister House arriving for the Halloween season, we should have some pleasant nightmares to look forward to.
Typically, books like this are space fillers, meant to ship something on a fifth week to keep retailers happy, and a way to clear out some stock stories and give new names a tryout. These seasonal anthologies from DC have been much higher quality than that - new folks are still getting their first shot,...

Hit-girl Will Wage Bloody War on Hollywood Predators Thanks To Kevin Smith and Here's Our First Look
Mark Millar's foul-mouthed ultra violent badass hero Hit-Girl is headed to Hollywood in a new comic mini-series written by Kevin Smith and she is going to wage bloody war on its sexual predators. The four-issue mini-series comic is called Hit Girl: The Golden Rage of Hollywood and thanks to Deadline, we have our first look and details!
The story finds the justice-seeking adolescent super-assassin storm movie sets and wage war on Hollywood predators — a story that couldn’t be any more timely. The title is set to launch in January 2019. The new series will feature some familiar faces from the original Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl series by Millar and John Romita Jr., and each issue is a tribute to a different era of American cinema.
Sounds like it's going to be a great series that is totally relevant to what is happening in Hollywood right now and there's no doubt...

Exclusive: Hollywood predators beware! Hit-Girl is coming for you. Mark Millar unveiled the first cover and details of Kevin Smith’s Hit Girl: The Golden Rage of Hollywood.
Popularized by Chloë Grace Moretz’s portrayal of the uber-violent, ass-kicking heroine in Matthew Vaughn’s movie adaptations of Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass comic books, 12-year old Hit Girl is a bloodthirsty hero who knows how to use a blade and isn’t afraid to drop an F-bomb or two. In The Golden Rage of Hollywood, Smith writes a new adventure with art from Pernille Orum that takes place in modern-day Tinsel Town. The cover, which can be seen below, was drawn by artist Francesco Francavilla.

Netflix and Millarworld have announced their latest comic book series Prodigy. This is the second comic book series from writer Mark Millar since he joined forces with Netflix. The first series announced was The Magic Order, which was released earlier this summer. Apparently, it's doing well enough to move forward with this other comic. In fact, The Magic Order ended up being the biggest selling new comic-book franchise in nearly 20 years.
I'm sure you're all wondering what this Prodigy comic series is about so here's the synopsis:
In Prodigy, the world’s smartest man isn’t content with running the world’s most successful business. His brilliant mind needs constant challenge and so he’s become the go-to guy for governments around the world when a problem arises they just can’t handle. A Nobel-Prize winning scientist, a genius composer, an Olympic-level athlete and an expert in the occult, Edison...

As highly enjoyable as Tom King’s run over on Batman has thus far proven to be, I’ve been very much pleased to see that James Tynion IV and the various artists that have worked with him for the past two years have succeeded in making Detective Comics feel like a markedly different book. They’re both fantastic, sure, but having two flagship titles featuring the same character with the same flavor is a trapping that isn’t uncommon in this medium, and I’m glad that’s certainly not the case here.
So, while Batman has (mostly) chronicled the adventures of a solo Dark Knight and has more recently focused on his relationship with Catwoman, ‘Tec has acted as somewhat of a team-up book. Uniting the Caped Crusader with the likes of Batwoman, Red Robin, Spoiler, Orphan, Batwing and even Clayface, it’s proven to be a darling...
