On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected former Trump adviser Peter Navarro‘s bid to stay out of prison while he appeals his conviction for evading a congressional subpoena.
Navarro, 74, was charged with two counts of contempt of Congress after he refused to cooperate with the House January 6 committee investigating the Capitol Riot. Navarro failed to provide documents to the committee and refused to testify. Navarro cited former President Donald Trump‘s executive privilege to maintain confidentiality. However, there is no evidence that Trump ever asserted the privilege or that it would apply in this case.
This is Navarro’s second attempt to stay out of prison. In March, Chief Justice John Roberts denied Navarro’s first request. Navarro was ordered to report to a federal prison in Miami on March 19. Navarro renewed his request to Justice Neil Gorsuch. The motion was brought to a full court for a vote. Previously,...

Steven Spielberg’s 1981 film, Hook, is regarded as the best adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy. The film presented a different take on the children’s fairytale and provided a different experience than the other iterations. A popular rumor suggested that Tom Hanks was the first choice for the role of an older Peter Pan. However, the Philadelphia actor clarified that the story is different.
Robin Williams in Spielberg’s Hook
Hook focuses on the story of a lawyer played by the late Robin Williams, who learns that he is the older Peter Pan. When his kids are kidnapped by Captain Hook as revenge, he goes back to Neverland and joins forces with the Lost Boys and Julia Roberts’ Tinkerbell. Steven Spielberg’s iteration of the fairy tale initially divided the audiences but became a cult classic moving forward.
Was Tom Hanks the first choice to play Peter Pan in Hook?...

By comparison, Roberts earned $32.1 million in 2022 and $34 million in 2021.
In January, Comcast said it earned $121.57 billion in overall revenue during 2023, up just 0.1 percent from the $121.43 billion the company brought in the prior year.
Like other pay television providers, Comcast has experienced an erosion of its core pay television product, Xfinity TV, as consumers shift toward cheaper streaming options. The trend of “cord-cutting” along with programming investments in...

NBCUniversal owner Comcast has disclosed higher 2023 compensation packages for chairman and CEO Brian Roberts and president Michael Cavanagh, along with pay details for other top executives.
Comcast’s proxy statement, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday, a day after the company’s first-quarter 2024 earnings report, showed that Roberts’ pay hit $35.5 million in 2023, up 11 percent compared with $32.1 million in 2022. He had made $34 million in 2021, $32.7 million in 2020 and $36.4 million in 2019.
Cavanagh’s compensation package was worth $29.6 million last year, down 27 percent from $40.5 million in 2022 when he had served as chief financial officer until being promoted to president in October 2022, which brought him a pay boost. Jason Armstrong then took over as CFO in early 2023.
Cavanagh saw increases across most compensation categories, but his options awards for 2023 amounted to $7.0 million, compared with $21.1 million in 2022 when he was elevated.
Robert’s salary remained at $2.5 million in 2023, but his stock awards rose from $13.4 million in 2022 to $15.0 million,...

Comcast notched a small first-quarter profit despite continued erosion in its core cable operations and a lack of new spending from advertisers at its NBCUniversal operations.
The Philadelphia owner of NBC, USA and the Peacock streaming service said profit rose just 0.6% during the period, to $3.86 billion, or 97 cents a share, compared with $3.83 billion, or 91 cents a share in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue rose 1.2% to $30.06 billion.
The company’s performance trumped Wall Street expectations. “Our team is continuing to execute exceptionally well in a dynamic and competitive marketplace,” said Brian L. Roberts, chairman and CEO of Comcast, in a statement.
The company lost 65,000 broadband customers during the quarter, but was able to harness increased rates to win a small gain in revenue in its key video operations. Comcast said it added 289,000 wireless lines, but saw its overall U.S. video customer base decline by 487,000.

Peacock, the streaming service of Comcast’s entertainment unit NBCUniversal, grew its first-quarter revenue and narrowed its loss to $639 million from $704 million in the year-ago period, and $825 million in the fourth quarter of 2023, despite higher programming costs. The streamer ended March with 34 million paying subscribers, compared with a year-end 2023 figure of 31 million, the company also said on Thursday.
“Peacock paid subscribers increased 55 percent compared to the prior-year period to 34 million, including net additions of 3 million in the first quarter,” Comcast highlighted. “Peacock revenue increased 54 percent to $1.1 billion.”
Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning epic Oppenheimer exclusively started streaming on Peacock on Feb. 16 after its theatrical release in July 2023.
As streaming profits, which have so far been elusive for most industry giants, remain in focus for Wall Street, Peacock previously posted a full-year 2023 loss of $2.75 billion. But Comcast CFO Jason Armstrong earlier this year emphasized that “2023 marked the peak in annual losses at Peacock,...

Dermot Mulroney didn’t have a Bff in any casting departments after starring in 1997 rom-com “My Best Friend’s Wedding.”
Mulroney shared with the New York Times that despite starring in the hit film alongside Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz, he “probably didn’t work for a year” after its release. “My Best Friend’s Wedding” grossed almost $300 million at the global box office against its $35 million budget, and while Mulroney went on to continue his rom-com reign with “The Wedding Date” and more, there was not exactly a slew of immediately available roles with Dermot’s name on them.
“I was sitting there ready for the gift with purchase that was supposed to come along with being in a popular movie, and instead, I probably didn’t work for a year,” Mulroney said. “I chalked it up to me being so tiny on the poster, the little guy on the cake.

1954's "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" was the last gasp of Universal Pictures' black-and-white horror heyday. Pivoting away from literary adaptations towards something more resembling contemporary man-in-suit monster movies, "Black Lagoon" introduced one last staple of the Universal Monster line-up: The Gill-man. A missing link in the evolutionary chain, the amphibian man has the same mix of terror and lovelorn pathos as his monstrous brethren.
It's not quite the pop-culture staple that "Dracula" and "Frankenstein" are, but "The Creature From The Black Lagoon" has been reimagined many times (most famously in 2017 with Guillermo del Toro's Best Picture-winning oddball romance "The Shape of Water" — it was almost black-and-white like "Black Lagoon" too). Now a new comic book starring the Gill-Man comes forth from Skybound Entertainment, boasting a title that belongs to a forgotten Universal Horror picture: "The Creature From The Black Lagoon Lives!"
Skybound isn't just revitalizing "The Transformers" and "G.I. Joe.

Emma Roberts, the actress known for he roles in American Horror Story and the Scream movies, has transformed her Los Angeles home into one reminiscent of a real-life dollhouse.
“Minimalism is not my strong suit,” Roberts told Architectural Digest. “Every house I’ve ever lived in feels a little bit like a cabinet of curiosities…I loved the idea of making my very own grown-up dollhouse.”
Roberts said her goal was to create a home filled with cherished memories and love that would serve as a sanctuary for herself and her three-year-old son, Rhodes, whom she co-parents with ex-partner Garrett Hedlund.
In a video tour of her residence, Roberts highlighted a unique feature, the “doll wall,” located near her office. Each shelf has an array of collectibles from her childhood and discoveries made in adulthood. She enthusiastically showcased her beloved “drunk cowgirl” Barbie and Blythe dolls.

Comcast is adding a familiar name to its corporate board of directors.
The cable giant and NBCUniversal owner is bringing on Wonya Lucas, the former CEO of Hallmark Media and TV One, as a board member. The company disclosed the addition of Lucas in a securities filing, noting that she will be considered an independent director.
Lucas, a veteran TV executive who worked at CNN and The Weather Channel before running TV One and later Hallmark, stepped down as CEO of Hallmark parent company Crown Media Holdings last year. During her tenure at Hallmark, Lucas focused on building more projects with diverse storylines, characters and themes.
She is also the niece of baseball legend Hank Aaron, an experience that she wrote about in a column for The Hollywood Reporter. Lucas also serves as a director for Atlanta Braves Holdings, the owner of the Atlanta Braves, the team with which Aaron spent much of his career.

Before she was one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Julia Roberts was apparently subject to on-set mistreatment by the late director Herb Ross. Ross, who died in 2001, directed Roberts in one of her earliest hits, the heartfelt 1989 drama "Steel Magnolias." When the movie hit theaters, Roberts was just four months away from becoming a major celebrity thanks to the success of "Pretty Women." But in a recent interview with Vulture, her "Steel Magnolias" costar says Roberts, then in her early 20s, was subject to tough treatment by Ross.
"Herb was very, very, very hard on Julia," Sally Field told the outlet in February. "If you ever talk to Julia, she'll tell you." She continued: "We would all rally around Julia, because she was the baby. She was sort of the newcomer." In the film, Roberts plays Shelby, the daughter to Field's M'Lynn who suffers from diabetes. Known for breaking character and cracking up Saturday Night Live cast members in his previous two hosting stints on the NBC sketch program, Ryan Gosling stayed true to himself tonight, laughing in every skit he was in, much to the delight of the studio audience, and challenging his co-stars to keep a straight face — even seasoned veterans like Kenan Thompson.
The tone was set in the cold open, reuniting Gosling and Kate McKinnon for a third Close Encounters sketch, in which host Gosling could not stop laughing as McKinnon was demonstrating how aliens observed Gosling character’s private parts close and personal during their alleged abduction. She chuckled a few times too, with the rest trying to hide their smiles.
Then came The Engagement skit, in which Gosling played a newly engaged man having serious second thoughts about his decision to propose.

When it comes to complex and challenging roles that require submitting oneself fully to the process, few actors can claim to have achieved what Tom Hanks has. The two-time Oscar winner is synonymous with some of the most iconic characters in films like Forrest Gump, Philadelphia, Cast Away, and many more that have showcased his prowess as a performer.

In keeping with CinemaCon tradition, Disney this afternoon treated attendees to the first 35 minutes of its latest Pixar movie; this year being Inside Out 2.
The sequel to the 2015 pic brings viewers back into the mind of the now-teenage Riley (Kensington Tallman) as her emotions try to keep up with her new feelings. And while Pixar has gotten the short end of the stick during the pandemic with its movies Soul, Luca and Turning Red being sent to Disney+ and Lightyear shunned by Toy Story purists, Inside Out 2 had the Colosseum in stitches.
It was punctuated by the humor of Amy Poehler and Lewis Black, along with Maya Hawke’s scene-stealing turn as the antagonist Anxiety, who takes over the soul of young teen Riley from the feelings of Joy, Anger, Sadness and Fear. Let’s also not forget about Envy (Ayo Edebiri), who is in cahoots with Anxiety for the spirit of Riley.

In a very unsettled drama Emmy field, one of the few ostensible locks this year is Elizabeth Debicki. With 4/1 odds, she is the runaway favorite to take home the Best Drama Supporting Actress Emmy for her turn as Princess Diana on “The Crown,” which would make the Netflix series the sixth show to deliver two different winners in the category.
Twelve shows have won drama supporting actress more than once. Of those, seven shows have had one person triumph repeatedly, including “Lou Grant” for Nancy Marchand, who won a record four times, and most recently “Ozark” for three-time champ Julia Garner. The five shows that saw the wealth spread among its cast members are “St. Elsewhere”, “The West Wing”, “Hill Street Blues”, “The Practice” and “thirtysomething”. No show has had more than two cast members win the award.
Interestingly, Marchand (1980-82; her first win was in ’78), Roberts (1983), Woodard (1984), Thomas (1985), Bartlett...

CinemaCon is in full swing. Studios are unveiling some new exclusive pictures and information at upcoming projects. We’ve gotten first looks at movies like Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and trailers for Trap and The Joker: Folie à Deux. Some promotional materials have shown a look at Gladiator II and Wolverine’s new mask for Deadpool & Wolverine. Recently, Amazon MGM has revealed some new footage of the upcoming Christmas comedy Red One, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons.
Deadline reports on the ten minutes that Amazon has screened for the CinemaCon audience. First off, while this is a movie that has been set for Prime Video, the footage is said to be very theatrical and it is revealed that Red One will indeed be hitting theaters on November 15. Not much can be said by way of details as those who saw the footage are instructed to keep their lips sealed.

While Amazon MGM Studios didn’t take the stage at CinemaCon, they did meet with exhibitors and key press to strut their future theatrical slate, in particular they showed off ten minutes of the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ movie Red One. While we agree to keep mum about the details of the Santa Claus rescue movie, let’s just say the originally conceived for Prime Video title is definitely meant for theatrical, which is where it’s going on Nov. 15; the only wide release currently on that weekend.

Due to its significance, it also took over television coverage during the afternoon, preempting various programs.
ABC News and National Geographic presented a live special during the event from various locations in the United States called Eclipse Across America.
The special featured ABC anchors and correspondents, including Ginger Zee, Robin Roberts, Whit Johnson, and David Muir.
Roberts became especially choked up during the live special due to witnessing the event.
Robin Roberts says she’ll ‘never forget’ emotional eclipse experience
During ABC’s Eclipse Across America special, Roberts and Johnson reported live from The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.

As Willie Nelson once sang, there’s no place but Texas — and some of country music’s hallmark awards shows seem to agree. In the past two years, two big-budget ceremonies have been staged not in Nashville but in the Lone Star State. On Sunday, the CMT Music Awards, airing on CBS, made their return to Austin for a second consecutive year and leaned hard into all the trappings of Texas.

Most animated shows have a general idea of what their characters are going to be when they start casting, but in the case of the Fox family sitcom "Bob's Burgers," they actually worked in reverse. The series went backwards by starting with a cast in mind and then created the Belcher family inspired by the cast and their specific talents. It's a pretty unique way to create a television show, but it worked great because the voice actors each bring so much to the table that the show actually uses a mixture of written script and improv to bring the Belchers to life, something very few animated shows would ever even attempt.
H. Jon Benjamin is perfect as the family's fumbling but loving patriarch, Bob, while John Roberts somehow manages to change his voice to the perfect pitch for Bob's wine-chugging, song-singing wife Linda. It's not super unusual for voice...

With American Horror Story on an extended hiatus, the FX hit teased a kiss between Emma Roberts and co-star Kim Kardashian to promote the series’ big comeback.
Now that the first episode has aired, Roberts is speaking out about it.
Roberts appeared on The Tonight Show, starring Jimmy Fallon, on Wednesday night and wasted no time telling the host about the big scene.
Throughout the American Horror Story: Delicate, Kardashian’s Siobhan has seemingly posed a significant threat to Roberts’ Anna.
Despite being Anna’s publicist, Siobhan has been shown to have ulterior motives, and the footage for the second part of the season teased as much.
While the kiss got plenty of people talking, Roberts said it wasn’t as “intense” to film as it looked.
Emma Roberts reveals it was like a regular work day for her

When Jason Reitman announced that he’d bought the Fox Village Theatre in Westwood, film fans were stunned that some of the world’s most prominent directors, from Steven Spielberg to Chloé Zhao to Christopher Nolan, wanted a stake in the classic movie palace.
But it’s a strange time for the theatrical exhibition business. Moviegoing always sees an uptick when blockbusters come to town, but for independent theaters, the past four years have been dreadful. Many smaller cities have no theaters left at all: Just this year, Ridgewood, N.J.’s Warner and Denver’s Esquire are among the theaters that have turned off their projectors for good.
Yet across the country, some operators refuse to give up, looking to a mix of successful filmmakers and local supporters to reopen beloved movie houses. Joining Reitman and New Beverly/Vista owner Quentin Tarantino is director Kevin Smith, who is hustling...

‘AHS: Delicate – Part Two’ returns with more of the same, yet Anna’s perturbing pregnancy finally starts to crown towards its creepy climax.
“Down will come baby, cradle and all…”
Part Two of American Horror Story: Delicate turns the clock back just over 35 years and begins with an unsettling vignette that chronicles how Emma Roberts’ Anna Victoria Alcott was brought into the world. This is actually an effective and telling prologue that functions as a strong distillation of the season. In fact, this would have been a better way to start off AHS: Delicate as a whole, rather than its second-half. It teases the many unknown and unintentional risks that are associated with pregnancy and childbirth, even when everything plays out normally and there’s no demon baby involved. American Horror Story addresses the twisted nature of “Rock-a-Bye-Baby” and the inherently creepy nature of lullabies. It’s a larger indictment...

American Horror Story: Delicate is back for its second part, and Emma Roberts has been making the rounds on talk shows to promote the FX series‘ return — and she’s sharing some literally juicy details about her experience filming with co-star Kim Kardashian. In the season, Roberts stars as Anna Victoria Alcott, an actress who finally finds herself in contention for an Oscar, just as she’s enduring some excruciating fertility issues at home. Kim Kardashian shares the screen with her, starring as Siobhan Corbyn, Anna’s publicist and closest confidant. The relationship between the two characters is rather intimate at times, and while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Roberts recalled the moment she and Kardashian had to lock lips for a scene … and they were both reduced to stitches. “It’s kind of like another day at the office, but my sister was like, ‘No it’s not.

In November 2016, at the 50th annual Country Music Association Awards, Beyoncé performed “Daddy Lessons,” her first explicit foray into country music. On the emotionally intimate, vervy album Lemonade, the song felt inspired by the singer’s Southern origins. Onstage, accompanied by The Chicks and a band wielding the full power of acoustic guitars, horns and harmonicas, it became a full-throated declaration — an affirmation of all that came with Beyoncé’s roots in Alabama, Louisiana and Texas.
The backlash to her performance was swift and predictably racist. In a recording of that moment, the camera quickly cuts away from parts of the audience largely unmoved by Beyoncé’s enthusiastic invitation to clap along. On social media, detractors expressed their anger at the musician’s inclusion. A month later, the Recording Academy rejected “Daddy Lessons” as a country entry for the Grammys, setting the stage for a contentious battle about who and...
