"The Big Bang Theory" ran for 12 seasons and the same number of years, but even so, when it was announced that season 12 would be the final installment of Chuck Lorre's hit sitcom, fans were stunned -- and so were a few of the stars. So why did it end at that point?
The long and short of it, to be frank, is that star Jim Parsons just didn't want to do it anymore. As the Emmy winner told "Doctor Who" veteran David Tennant on Tennant's podcast in late 2020, he felt like he knew the end was approaching when he signed what would eventually become his final contract to play Sheldon Cooper. "Our final contract was for the last two years, but no one knew when we signed it what that would mean," Parsons revealed to Tennant. I kind of had a suspicion in my heart that that was going...

Before starring as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, the actor was mostly notable for playing a man raised by wolves in the hilarious 2003 Quiznos commercial. However, this changed following the success of Tbbt, which shot him to stardom and made him one of the biggest names in TV and was even offered an eight-figure salary to continue playing Sheldon.
But despite being one of the top names at the time, the actor feared talking about his sexuality during the sitcom’s initial years following the stigma surrounding LGBTQ+ people at the time.

Jim Parsons has starred in several other movies and shows over the years, but his most notable work continues to be The Big Bang Theory even after so many years since the last season aired. This is perhaps because his involvement with the series never ended as he serves as the narrator and producer on the spin-off series Young Sheldon.

Bazinga again! “The Big Bang Theory” stars Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik will guest star on the series finale of CBS’ “Young Sheldon,” reuniting as Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler. Details of the episode, which airs Thursday, May 16, and how Parsons and Bialik will be incorporated into it, remains a secret.
Parsons, of course, has been a part of “Young Sheldon” from the beginning, serving as the show’s narrator and as one of its executive producers. Bialik has also been heard on two episodes of “Young Sheldon” as a guest voiceover. But this reps the first time the duo has been on screen together since the May 2019 series finale of “The Big Bang Theory,” and it also marks the first on-camera appearance of their characters — as grown-up Sheldon and Amy.

Updated with Annie Potts reaction: Young Sheldon star Iain Armitage is promising “the best seventh season we can possibly make,” after hearing the news that the upcoming Season 7 will be the last for the hit Big Bang Theory spinoff.
“In case you wondered, I love my family,” he said, alongside an on-set photo with TV siblings Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan. “There’s about 200 more people who make Young Sheldon happen and I’m grateful for each of them.
“We will make the best seventh season we can possibly make,” wrote Armitage. “And behind the scenes there will be lots of laughter and lots of tears because I love all of these people so much.”
Revord, who plays Sheldon’s twin sister Missy, commented on Armitage’s post: “Can’t stop crying,” she wrote. “My family forever!”
Annie Potts, who portrays Connie ‘Meemaw’ Tucker, also shared her thoughts in an Instagram post.

The “Big Bang Theory” prequel series is set to return on Feb. 15, with the one-hour series finale set to air on May 16. The season will be shorter than those before it due to the truncated nature of the 2023-2024 scripted broadcast season caused by the writer and actors’ strikes that shutdown Hollywood productions for nearly six months.

“Call Me Kat” has been canceled after three seasons at Fox, Variety has learned.
“We are very proud of ‘Call Me Kat.’ But, unfortunately, the audience response to it was not as strong as we had hoped,” a Fox spokesperson said in a statement. “We are thankful for our partnership with Warner Bros. Television, That’s Wonderful Productions, Sad Clown Productions, BBC Studios, Mayim Bialik, Jim Parsons and the entire cast and crew for their work and dedication to ‘Call Me Kat.'”
The multi-cam comedy was a high-profile get for Fox back in 2019, with the network giving the show a series commitment in a highly-competitive situation before formally ordering it to series in May 2020. Both series star Mayim Bialik and executive producer Jim Parsons were coming fresh off of the 12th and final season of the hit CBS multi-cam “The Big Bang Theory,” with “Call Me Kat” representing their first broadcast project after that show.

Fox is making its renewal and pick up decisions.
The network has canceled comedy series Call Me Kat after three seasons. The show has seen dwindling ratings, particularly in its third season.
On the comedy side, Fox still has Animal Control, which is expected to receive a second season. However, the future of Welcome To Flatch, which is in its second season, is unclear.
Call Me Kat has been paired with Animal Control and the two shows are not considered particularly compatible. Welcome To Flatch comes at an attractive price point, but the cancelation of Call Me Kat is not expected to influence Fox’s decision whether to bring it back for a third season. Finding more comedies is a priority for new head of comedy Cheryl Dolins.

The cat cafe is closing its doors.
Fox has canceled its comedy Call Me Kat, starring The Big Bang Theory alum Mayim Bialik, after three seasons. The news comes a day after the show’s season (now series) finale aired on the network.
Call Me Kat stars Bialik as a woman who leaves her job as a college professor to open a cat cafe. The series is based on the BBC comedy Miranda, starring and created by Miranda Hart. The show was a co-production between Warner Bros. TV, BBC Studios America and Fox Entertainment, along with That’s Wonderful Productions — headed by Bialik’s Big Bang co-star Jim Parsons — and Bialik’s Sad Clown Productions.
The comedy joins The Resident and 911 in leaving the network after this season, though the latter is moving to ABC for its seventh season. Both dramas come from Disney’s 20th Television, so 911 will become an...

Jim Parsons is learning to like control. For nearly his entire career, the actor best known for a 12-season run starring on The Big Bang Theory has been almost exclusively invested in delivering the best performances possible. Even after one of those massive deals to stay put at the late sitcom birthed a shingle, That’s Wonderful Productions, navigating the off-camera stuff often felt like work better suited to someone else. The company has thrived: The Big Bang spinoff Young Sheldon recently hit 100 episodes, the comedy Call Me Kat has been a rare scripted success at Fox, and Netflix’s Special proved a critical darling. But its latest project, in which Parsons also stars, signals a shift. “Spoiler Alert has changed everything,” he says of the movie, out in theaters Dec. 2 via Focus Features and based on Michael Ausiello’s memoir about losing his partner to cancer.

The Fox mutli-cam comedy “Call Me Kat” has found its Season 2 showrunner in Alissa Neubauer, Variety has learned.
Neubauer takes over running the comedy series from Darlene Hunt, who stepped down from running the show at the end of its first season. Hunt also developed the show for American television, as it is based on the BBC Studios’ format “Miranda.”
Neubauer is a veteran of the Chuck Lorre camp, having worked on the super-producer’s hit shows “Mom” and “Two and a Half Men.” She started out as a script coordinator on the latter show before rising to the rank of co-producer. She most recently served as a co-executive producer on “Mom,” which ended its run on CBS after eight seasons back in May.
