A lot of fans have been anxiously waiting for more films set in the world of the 2006 meta slasher Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (watch it Here) ever since that movie was release. The follow-up Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon still hasn’t managed to make it into production – but David J. Stieve, who wrote Behind the Mask with Scott Glosserman (and also wrote the Before the Mask script years ago) has made a short film called Wait for It, which is said to be set in the world of Leslie Vernon. That short film is now making the festival rounds and has been screened at a handful of festivals so far, with more festival screenings coming up this fall.

Another year has come and gone, and it was another great one for horror. Theatrical horror, indie horror, physical media, streaming, books, TV—there was so much good stuff I couldn’t even get to all of it, though I gave it my best effort. Here are some of my favorites of 2019 in no particular order.
Shudder: In just a few short years, Shudder has become the single most essential must-have for every horror fan. Their library grows more expansive and impressive every week, their curation of beloved favorites, smaller and lesser-known indies, and horror from around the globe impeccable. This year alone they featured the likes of Tigers Are Not Afraid, the Tom Savini documentary Smoke and Mirrors, One Cut of the Dead, Belzebuth, The Furies, Get My Gun, Hagazussa, Knife + Heart, The Ranger, the documentary Horror Noire, The Head Hunter, and so, so many more. A number...

Director Richard Stringham's first film, Close Calls, will debut this month. Very surreal, a trailer has been revealed for this film, via Terror Films. The clip shows Morgan, played by Jordan Phipps, struggling with her grandmother and an assortment of strange scenarios. Very much inspired by Giallo filmmaking, Close Calls also stars: Kristof Waltermire (Perfect Machine), Greg Fallon, Carmen Patterson and Janius Duley as Granny. A preview of the film's Digital launch is hosted here. The official synopsis talks of a psycho caller. Morgan experiences paranoia as a mysterious person keeps calling. Dealing with her own past, Morgan will have to confront those trying to kill her. Stringham recently had an interview on this project, at Pop Horror. Stringham says of his first film and his style of filmmaking: "there’s really no other reason for the retro and Giallo feel in Close Calls other than the fact that...

This documentary is by fans and for the fans, chronicling why John Carpenter’s classic has stood the test of time. Bringing together some of the brightest voices from independent horror we will explore what makes the film so special. From the music, the mask to Michael Myers, everyone has their own take on Halloween (1978), and why it is the blueprint for slasher horror and in our humble opinion, has never been bettered.
2018 is a big year for Halloween fans as it marks 40 years since the release of John Carpenters original holiday classic which introduced us to the bogeyman Michael Myers. In addition, we can also look forward to a new sequel which follows on from the original film and looks to rewrite the history of the series, bringing back Jamie Leigh Curtis as Laurie Strode, Nick Castle as The Shape and John Carpenter as the producer.
