Alastair Borthwick

Alastair Borthwick was born in Rutherglen in 1913 and started his career in journalism. After service in the Second World War, he worked mainly as a radio and TV producer. In the 1960s, Grampian TV used Borthwick's writing talents and wrote close on 150 programs with titles such as Inventors, Master-Builders and Spellbinders. Scottish Soldier, a 13-part history of the Scottish infantry regiments, demonstrated that, while he may have despised war, Borthwick had an undying love and respect for the Jock foot-soldier - the PBI.
