Roy Wood Jr. offered more of an explanation Thursday on why he decided to leave The Daily Show.
His exit comes as Comedy Central has yet to name a successor to Trevor Noah, who left in December. At first, Wood told NPR that he wanted time to determine his next steps, as the show has not offered him the job as permanent host.
On Thursday, he expanded on those thoughts via social media accounts by talking about what he’s leaving behind and what he’d like to do next.
“After eight amazing years on The Daily Show, where I’ve been able to purse my comedic and political curiosities with some of the best writers, producers, crew and correspondents anyone could hope for, I’ve decided to move on,” he wrote. “I’m grateful to Trevor Noah, Paramount and especially Comedy Central for giving me the runway to also produce three one-hour stand-up specials,...

Eva Longoria took part in a sit-down conversation on Wednesday with nonprofit organization 19th News, where the director and star weighed in on the ongoing writers and actors strikes.
In between reflecting on her career and the recent success of her feature directorial debut Flamin’ Hot, Longoria noted when talking to people while on the picket lines “there’s these great conversations happening. It reminded me of the Time’s Up movement, when there were so much danger for women in the workplace… There’s so many horrible stories that came out of that, but what it did was bring together this sisterhood in Hollywood and I think the industry goes, ‘Oh shit, the women are talking. The women are talking, somebody stop it,’ because we got to compare notes.”

Maybe refrain from tweeting on set while a strike is happening, Kim Kardashian.
On Friday, the reality show superstar decided to check in with her 74.9 million followers by writing “I’m on the set of AHS and we have some time between shows. What are you all up to????” Kardashian is starring in the 12th season of American Horror Story — one of several Ryan Murphy productions that have remained in production during the WGA strike.
Instead of getting the usual inquiries about her Skims, her fam and her dating status, she was immediately answered by striking writers — lots of them.
“Picketing, thanks for asking,” wrote one writer.
“Not being a scab,” said another.
“Can you post a cute selfie with the call sheet (advance schedule facing the camera)?” added a strike captain.
“Kim, this is a beautiful opportunity to show some solidarity and tell us if anyone is making script mods on site,...

Disney and Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was unveiled at its world premiere in Hollywood on Wednesday night. The official review embargo for Wakanda Forever lifts Nov. 8, but the social media embargo for early reactions lifted after the premiere.
Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, Wakanda Forever is a sequel to the filmmaker’s 2018 movie Black Panther and is the 30th feature film entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first Black Panther movie was a global box office and cultural phenomenon, scoring 1.35 billion in ticket sales and earning an Oscar nomination for best picture.
The long-awaited follow-up to Black Panther has been delayed by the pandemic and the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman, who played T’Challa/Black Panther in the MCU. “Palm Springs,” “Soul” and “Da 5 Bloods” were among the top winners at Sunday night’s Critics Choice Super Awards, a curious awards show that was launched during a year in which the kind of movies it exists to celebrate were largely absent from screens.
The awards were created by the Critics Choice Association to honor action, horror, sci-fi, superhero, comic-book and animated movies — the commercial genres whose films were largely taken off the release schedule when Covid-19 restrictions caused the closure of movie theaters. As a result, the Best Action Movie category was won by Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods,” in which the action sequences are peripheral at best; and the Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Movie award went to “Palm Springs,” a “Groundhog Day”-style comedy whose time-loop premise was enough to qualify it in the category.

“The Boys,” “Soul” and “Palm Springs” emerged as the big winners from the inaugural Critics Choice Super Awards.
Amazon Prime Video’s superhero-vigilante drama “The Boys” nabbed the most wins of any title, with four: superhero series, actor in a superhero series for Antony Starr, actress in a superhero series for Aya Cash and villain in a series, again for Starr. Both “Palm Springs,” the Hulu/Neon film starring Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti and J.K. As a Critics Choice Association member, I'm thrilled to share information on the first Critics Choice Super Awards presentation!
At TV Fanatic, we embrace sophistication and fun, so when awards season comes along, it can be alarming to realize that so much of what we cover (and watch) isn't considered award-worthy.
Heck, we've even written an article about it!
But those of you who love genre television and films will no longer go unrepresented. The Critics Choice Super Awards will air on The CW (of course!) on Sunday, January 10.
And while there isn't a ceremony that will have all of the critics and nominees in one location, that's not stopping us from offering one heck of a great night with all of your favorites!

If you weren’t already excited about Sony Pictures’ animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, maybe these reactions and reviews will get you excited! Audiences and critics are loving this movie, and it sounds like it could be the best Spider-Man film made to date!
Everyone seems to love it! It currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and I can’t wait to see it for myself! I’m actually kind of bummed out that I didn’t get invited to the press screening, especially after reading all of these reactions.
Below you’ll find a collection of tweets and excerpts from reviews for you to read through:
#SpiderVerse is hands down the best animated movie of the year, possibly even the best superhero movie of the year, which is not an accolade I give lightly with Infinity War in the running. It's So stylish and So beautiful and So funny.

Disney’s live-action Beauty And The Beast, which opens next week, is packed with famous people, including Hermione herself as Belle. But for its forthcoming take on Aladdin, set to be directed by Guy Ritchie, the studio is giving newcomers a shot. This week, a casting call began circulating on the internet explaining that the search was on for actors to play Jasmine and Aladdin. Quelling any fears of whitewashing—at least for now—the notice explains that the characters are of Middle Eastern descent. It also notes that good pipes are a necessity, and the ability to dance is an added bonus. So if your “A Whole New World” isn’t spot on, probably best to stay home.
Alright kids, if you know someone who fits this, you better share this with them. Submit asap. Good luck my babies pic.twitter.com/PLP37ritcV

Hollywood has a real bad habit of casting white actors in non-white roles. It’s a trend that has its origins all the way to the beginning of filmmaking itself. However, if the past few years has been any indication, the trend is far from extinct. Movies like The Prince of Persia, Gods of Egypt, and Exodus: Gods and Kings are all examples of movies set in the Middle East that starred white actors in the lead role.
And don’t get us wrong. We get it. Hollywood likes money, and it’s hard to take risks. But it’s 2017, and the industry finally seems to understand that someone has to take these risks first. In recent months, Disney has been promising diversity in some of their upcoming live-action films like Mulan, which pretty much necessitate a non-white cast. Another big question mark has been the Aladdin film from director Guy Ritchie.

Hot on the heels of unveiling a gay character in “Beauty and the Beast,” which is ruffling feathers in movie theaters from Alabama to Russia, Disney’s open casting call for Guy Ritchie’s live action “Aladdin” remake specifically states that the characters are Middle Eastern.
While the wording is a bit vague, the first line in the casting announcement states clearly: “These characters are Middle Eastern.”

Hollywood’s penchant for casting white actors in non-white roles has prompted much criticism of late, with little change from the big studios. Whitewashing should have gone the way of the Vcr with Mickey Rooney in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” or Eli Wallach in “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” but the missteps just keep coming with Scarlett Johansson in “Ghost in the Shell,” and Tilda Swinton in “Doctor Strange.
