S. Shankar, one of the most prolific and highest paid film directors in India, is known for his big-budget films that deal with social and political issues, as well as his use of state-of-the-art technology and VFX. He has worked with some of the biggest stars in Indian cinema, such as Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Vikram, and Vijay. He has also received several awards and accolades, including an honorary doctorate from M. G. R. University and two nominations for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Currently, Shankar is working on two highly anticipated projects that are expected to be game-changers in the industry: Indian 2 and Game Changer. Both films are sequels to his previous hits, Indian (1996) and Mudhalvan (1998), respectively. However, balancing two films simultaneously is not an easy task for any director, especially when they involve complex production and post-production processes.

In an interview with Galatta channel, he said that he is super confident that he can reach the level of DiCaprio and everyone will call him the Indian DiCaprio. He said that the main reason he wanted to achieve this goal was his admiration for DiCaprio’s choice of films and directors.
He said that he was impressed by how DiCaprio worked with Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg alternately, and he wanted to have a similar cycle with Mani Ratnam and S. Shankar, two of the most acclaimed filmmakers in India. He said that the first step towards this dream was his upcoming film Indian 2, directed by Shankar and co-starring Kamal Haasan. ReviewThough Raavana Kottam has an interesting plotline and fitting background score that maintains tension, there is little to redeem the no-nuance script. The film falls into a trap of cliches while trying hard to give a hot take on caste discrimination. YouTube ScreengrabIn one of the opening shots of Raavana Kottam, you see Bose (played by Prabhu) at the door of his house with nine other faux heads. The heads are actually photos hung in Bose’s house and belong to various leaders like Dr Br Ambedkar, Muthuramalinga Thevar, late Ltte chief Prabhakaran, Periyar, and Subhash Chandra Bose, among others. This clever camera trick featuring an ideologically varied medley of leaders sets the tone for the confusing politics employed in the film. Written and directed by Vikram Sugumaran, Raavana Kottam features Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Anandhi, and Prabhu in lead roles. The movie is set in the ‘caste-free’ utopian village of Enathi in the Ramnad district.

ReviewDirector Ponram seems to think police brutality makes for good comedy. It really doesn’t.Bharathy SingaravelTrailerScreengrabKollywood’s obsession with violent cop heroes may be limitless, but for some of us, our patience has run dry. Vijay Sethupathi stars in Dsp as another run-of-the-mill Tamil cinema police officer who heralds encounter killings as the ultimate justice. We are introduced to his character, Vasco da Gama, in North Madras’s Kasimedu, where he nearly beats to death a caricature ‘rowdy’. But of course, Kollywood, North Madras is the singular location in the whole city where criminality and general villainy can be found, right? The story proceeds erratically between the past and present events of his life as he massacres his way to the revenge he is seeking—the uniform enables his violence, the film implies. If you’re hoping for an explanation as to why Vjs’s character is named after a famed racist coloniser,...

KollywoodDirector Santha Kumar plays a delicious mind game with the audience, adding twists to a screenplay that is dense with details.Sowmya RajendranMagamuni, directed by Santha Kumar, is one of the most complex thrillers to come out of Tamil cinema and a film that almost entirely justifies its lengthy runtime. Telling a compelling story of crime, political intrigue, caste violence and religion, the film also manages to flirt with philosophy without turning boring at any point. When we’re introduced to Maga (Arya), a cab driver, he seems like any other man trying hard to keep his family afloat through difficult times. He’s stuck in mind-numbing traffic, his petulant wife Viji (a striking Indhuja) is complaining on the phone, and he’s in desperate need of money. Someone breaks his rear-view mirror and you think he’s going to lose control and do what our heroes usually do – beat...

I also had to let go of slippers for the role, and we recently shot a sequence where we had to play Kabbadi at peak noon. You know how hot Ramnad can get during summers,” Shanthanu was quoted by The New Indian Express. Director Vikram rose to fame with his critically-acclaimed film Madha Yaanai Kootam,...
