One of the UK’s most established newsreaders and journalists Clive Myrie has revealed the toll of being a prominent and recognisable figure, including receiving information of a death threat against him which contained details of the bullet that would be used.
Myrie, who has been a news journalist for the BBC for three decades told the Desert Island Discs radio show that he had previously been sent faeces and cards with gorillas. And one death threat involved “talking about the kind of bullet he’d use in the gun to kill me and this kind of stuff.”
He revealed: “I was shaken for a while. I thought it’s just someone showboating, it’s just bravado.
“Then they tracked down this character and it turned out he had previous convictions for firearms offences.
“So I thought, ‘Oh, my God, what, if anything, might this person have been planning?’”

Netflix and the BBC face a decision over the future of Drive to Survive commentator Jack Nicholls, who was today dropped from the Formula E championship following an investigation into inappropriate behavior.
Nicholls’ commentary is used on both Netflix smash Drive to Survive and the BBC’s Formula 1 coverage. Although he has not been investigated by the BBC or Formula 1 producer Img, The Guardian reported that he stepped aside from its coverage of last weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix as a result of Formula E’s findings. Deadline understands Nicholls, who freelances on Drive to Survive, is not currently contracted for the next season. The BBC had responded to Deadline’s requests for comment by publication time.
Formula E said yesterday that it had carried out a third-party investigation into Nicholls following “complaints of inappropriate behaviour,” which were broken by The Times.
