National Geographic’s unscripted programs shooting both in the U.S. and abroad are figuring out what it means to get back to work during the pandemic, enacting new regulations and safety protocols to protect their human crews and animal subjects alike.
Having crews out in the field presents a risk not only for the local communities and the filmmakers themselves but potentially for wildlife as well.
“We actually canceled a shoot we were planning to do with bonobos in the Congo,” said “Queens” showrunner Vanessa Berlowitz. “We’ve been thinking a lot about how do we socially distance from monkeys who might be naturally curious and want to come close to us? You can’t necessarily prepare for that. So we’ve had to make some really complex decisions not just for our own safety and the people we work with, but also the animals that we’re filming.

It was “The Battle of The Sixes” on episode 13 of “The Masked Singer” this week. The final six performers — Frog, Kitty, Astronaut, Night Angel, Turtle and Rhino — battled it out. Guest judge Gordon Ramsay along with regulars Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke chose who to eliminate along and the live audience–who also joined in the vote. This week is all about that talented Rhino. So who is this horned mammal?
Rhino’s clues suggest a family man who is all about tranquility and Zen along with “wanting to show his family it’s never too late to rewrite a story.” This puzzle was not easy. The food clue (in honor of guest judge Chef Ramsey) of spaghetti and meatballs suggests this Rhino may be Italian, but me thinks not, and the airplane jumpsuit indicates he may be a pilot.

“Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted” saw the celebrity chef explore beyond the hellish, nightmarish kitchens American audiences know him from and venture to the furthest reaches of the planet.
The six-episode National Geographic show, which aired its Season 1 finale this week, followed Ramsay as he adventured to locations with unique, albeit largely unknown, cuisines, ranging from the craggy white waters of Laos to frigid Alaskan mountains. Despite his a larger-than-life personality and its globetrotting scale, “Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted” is a disarmingly personable project, one that cleverly expands the audience appeal of his high-volume TV persona.
IndieWire interviewed several of the show’s crew members during the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour to discover how “Gordan Ramsay: Uncharted” differs from the chef’s other television projects and to discern the challenges of filming a cooking show in some of the planet’s furthest flung locales.

The final episodes of Anthony Bourdain’s CNN travel series “Parts Unknown” will begin with a tour of Kenya, where Bourdain will be joined by “United States of America” host W. Kamau Bell, on Sept. 23.
Season 12 of the series was in production when Bourdain died in June on location in France.
“We believed early on that Parts Unknown would be an exceptional series with an incomparable host and stellar production team,” said Amy Entelis, executive vice president, talent and content development, CNN Worldwide. “We are grateful to have collaborated with such an incredibly talented friend and colleague whose prolific body of work and extraordinary personality touched so many.”

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is gearing up to go into uncharted territory with his upcoming Nat Geo travel series — or parts that are unknown, as some critics have been quick to point out.
Ramsay’s new show, “Uncharted” — which was announced earlier this month — sounds strikingly similar to the late Anthony Bourdain’s CNN docuseries “Parts Unknown.” And Ramsay has felt the swift backlash from fans who cried “too soon!” at what they believe to be a ripoff of Bourdain’s — who died in June — Emmy-nominated program.
But that doesn’t mean he agrees with it or thinks “Uncharted” is a copycat production of his “great mate”s program.

“God, the feeble warriors that sit in their dungeons and spout negativity without understanding what we’re doing,” Ramsay told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Friday.
