Warner Bros. Discovery was named victorious Monday in a September 2022 lawsuit alleging David Zaslav and other executives inflated HBO Max streaming subscriptions ahead of Warner Bros. merger with Discovery, duping “hundreds of thousands” of shareholders.
Despite alleged “half-truths,” U.S. District Judge Valierie Caproni ruled that the proposed class action lawsuit, led by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, would not move forward, and that Wbd was “not required to disclose a fact simply because it may be relevant or of interest to a reasonable investor,” according to court documents.
Yost said that Wbd also hid WarnerMedia’s strategies for licensing content and distributing films, as well as the looming demise of the CNN+, the short-lived CNN spinoff.
Judge Caproni also ruled that Yost did not explain how the the plan to pull the plug on CNN+ was related to a “misleading” content strategy for the media giant.
Yost filed the lawsuit in Sept.

The Hollywood Creative Alliance has filed a defamation lawsuit against the Critics Choice Association stemming from Cca’s new ban on its members belonging to both organizations.
In court documents filed Tuesday in Los Angeles, the Hca claimed the Cca made an “attempt to boycott and steal members of the Hca.”
Trouble between the organizations began the week after the 2024 Critics Choice Awards, when Cca accused Hca of influence peddling — specifically, of telling studios and the representatives of certain nominees that it had several members who were also members of the Critics Choice Association.
Cca at that time informed members that in order to remain part of the organization in good standing, they must resign from Hca.
Cca wrote to its members, “The reason Cca has taken this action is that we have evidence that a representative of the Hca has improperly suggested to at least one studio (and we...

A father and daughter have accused movie star and comedian Pauly Shore of assault and battery for allegedly encouraging security members to attack the father, who was visiting the Los Angeles comedy club The Comedy Store in 2022.
The plaintiffs named in the lawsuit are Sean Kehoe and his daughter Kirra Lyn Potts, who say security personnel “violently grabbed and attacked” Kehoe during an incident that took place on Nov. 30, 2022. The legal document also states Kehoe sustained “severe injuries” after the members dragged him. The alleged attacked resulted in Potts undergoing “mental and emotional distress” and “extreme mental anguish” because she witnessed her father being assaulted.
The two also claim in the lawsuit, a copy of which TheWrap obtained, that the comedian was fully aware, prior to the act, and “agreed with and encouraged” the security team to follow through with the attack. They claim that he is responsible for staff...

Sofia Vergara and Netflix have been hit by a lawsuit by Griselda Blanco’s estate over the upcoming series “Griselda.”
The suit, filed Wednesday in Florida, seeks a court injunction to block the release of the miniseries, which is currently scheduled for a Jan. 25 premiere, due to alleged unauthorized use of the family’s image and likeness.
The series, which stars Vergara as Griselda Blanco, follows the infamous cartel leader known widely as “the Godmother” as she rises through drug trafficking ranks in 1980s Miami. Vergara serves as an executive producer for the series.
While the suit does not contend with the depiction of Blanco, whose notoriety establishes her as a public figure, Blanco’s children, who act as the representation for the Blanco’s estate, allege that details surrounding their image and likeness were used in the Netflix series without consent nor compensation.

Donald Trump is still very angry over the erroneous reporting about the financial losses at his Twitter clone, Truth Social, and in a new lawsuit filed Monday, the ex-president claimed that the reports were actually a vast media conspiracy involving “no less than 20 major media outlets.”
The lawsuit comes following reports this month that Truth had lost $73 million in 2023. That figure turned out to be incorrect; the company has actually lost $31 million.
It’s not clear how the error occurred. The initial $73 million figure was attributed to a securities filing by Digital World Acquisition Corp, which is attempting to merge with Truth Social. The next day all report

As the “South Park” lawsuit between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global wages on, a judge has dismissed two claims brought forth by Wbd. Specifically, the claims of “breach of the implied covenant of goof faith and fair dealing” as well as the “violation of New York Business Law” have been dropped.
Moving forward, the judge will still examine whether or not Paramount Global was in breach of its contract with Wbd regarding “South Park,” if there was “tortious interference” with the contract and if “unjust enrichment” occurred on behalf of Paramount.
In the lawsuit, Warner Bros. Discovery also noted that it believes Season 26, which aired its first episode in February of this year, also only consists of six episodes. Though its been months since the series has released new episodes, the animated comedy typically has 10 episode seasons.
Essentially, in its third claim — the aforementioned “violation of New York Business Law” — Warner Bros.

Hulu’s licensing agreement for former ABC News producer James Gordon Meek’s Emmy-nominated documentary “3212 Un-Redacted” has expired and will not be renewed.
The series, which made its debut on the streaming service in 2021, investigates the truth behind the deaths of four U.S. Special Forces soldiers in Africa, leading to evidence of a coverup at the highest levels of the Army.
The move comes after Meek was sentenced to six years in prison in September after pleading guilty to transportation and possession of child sexual abuse material in July.
In addition, ABC News has quietly removed a tagline from Meek’s work that stated:“Editor’s Note: ABC News investigative reporter James Gordon Meek is the recipient of the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation’s 2022 World Press Freedom Award for reporting on hostage cases since 1993.”

In the face of legal accusations of assault, harassment and discrimination, Lizzo’s anti-slapp (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) filing to dismiss has been met with an opposition memo that counters what it describes as an attempt to protect the singer from consequences under the label of free speech.
The anti-slapp filing arrived on Oct. 27 in addition to denials by her representation, statements from other dancers and staffers testifying to her good character, as well as pushback from Lizzo herself. The singer asked the court to dismiss the harassment lawsuit for a variety of other reasons as well.
“Can a global celebrity be forever insulated from civil liability because all their conduct is protected as free speech under the anti-slapp statute?” lawyers for Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez rhetorically ask in a new opposition filing to the Grammy winner’s attempt to have the matter tossed out of court.

Abigail Breslin is alleging that Aaron Eckhart acted so aggressively toward her on the set of the movie “Classified” that she was afraid to be alone with him. The allegations are contained within a lawsuit filed, obtained by TheWrap, by the film’s production companies against the “Little Miss Sunshine” actress for breach of contract. The suit claims that her “specious” accusations cost the film $80,000.
The lawsuit, filed on Thursday in the Los Angeles Superior County Superior Court states, “During the course of production, the entire production almost ground to a halt when Breslin advised the production of Eckhart’s (allegedly) aggressive, demeaning, and unprofessional behavior which she insisted placed her at various times in peril.”
The complaint states that the plaintiffs do not know if Breslin confronted her co-star about the alleged behavior, but they were aware that she wrote a letter to the Screen Actors Guild “setting forth her fears and blasting Mr.

Anthony McCarten, a screenwriter on the blockbuster “Bohemian Rhapsody,” has settled a lawsuit filed against producer Gk Films. He alleged that he had not seen his share of profits after the Oscar-winning Freddy Mercury biopic earned $911 million at the global box office. The writer moved to dismiss the suit on Oct. 31, in documents TheWrap has obtained, while the terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The two-time Academy Award nominee, for “Darkest Hour” and “Theory of Everything,” received the sole “screenplay by” credit for the film. Under his deal with Gk Films, the complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in 2021 claimed, he was entitled to “[a]n amount equal to 5% of 100%” of net proceeds, which was defined as the company’s standard definition.”
However, McCarten claims he has received no profit-related revenue from the picture, while accounting statements issued by 20th Century Studios show a $51 million deficit on the film.

Court documents filed with Santa Monica Superior Court Judge H. Jay Ford III on Oct. 20 indicate director Roman Polanski has waged a legal attempt to clear his name of additional allegations of sexual assault.
Polanski’s legal team uses a number of defenses in its newest filing, including that the woman’s claim is not valid because she accused him of sexual battery—which didn’t become a crime until 1990. He also argued that the plaintiff’s request for damages was based on guesswork and conjecture.
The 90-year-old director is accused of luring the girl, identified as Jane Doe in her June 16 lawsuit against him, to his home. He then allegedly gave her tequila and assaulted her. This case is separate from decades-long allegations that the director had unlawful sexual intercourse with a then-13-year-old Samantha Geimer.

Just a day before Jonathan Majors returns to court for a pretrial hearing in his domestic violence case, prosecutors have filed a massive, 115-page document that lays out specifics of the allegations and rebuts several narratives related to the matter. Among other items, it counters reporting that Grace Jabbari, Majors’ girlfriend at the time of the alleged assault, was herself to be charged in the incident.
It also discusses a previously unreported incident that allegedly occurred in London in September of 2022. Prosecutors are trying to procure a police report for that alleged incident, that involved Jabbari receiving medical care, which would have occurred while the actor was in London shooting the second season of Disney+’s series “Loki.” Majors was arrested on March 25 in Manhattan and stands accused of assault and aggravated harassment following an alleged domestic dispute with Jabbari.

“Queer for Fear” executive producer Bryan Fuller has been sued for alleged sexual harassment and sexual assault on the set of the 2021 Shudder docuseries. An attorney for the “Hannibal” creator said he intends to countersue for defamation and malicious prosecution.

In a statement Wednesday night, CAA denied an accusation by actress Julia Ormond that it enabled and abetted Harvey Weinstein’s predatory behavior, and vowed to “vigorously refute” that accusation in court.
In a lawsuit filed earlier Tuesday, Ormond accused the imprisoned former movie mogul of raping her in 1995. The lawsuit also named CAA and Disney as defendants, and said the companies, which owned Weinstein’s Miramax studio from 1995-2010, knew that the rape had taken place but did nothing to protect her from Weinstein. At the time, CAA also represented Ormond.
In its own statement Wednesday night, the agency powerhouse said it “takes all allegations of sexual assault and abuse seriously, and has compassion for Ms. Ormond and the experience she described in her complaint. Actress Julia Ormond filed a lawsuit Wednesday against Harvey Weinstein, Disney and CAA. Per court documents received by TheWrap, the lawsuit alleged Weinstein sexually assaulted Ormond in 1995 and that Disney and CAA failed to protect her.
The complaint claimed that former Hollywood mogul Weinstein forced himself on the actress for oral sex. Moreover, the suit alleged that CAA and the Walt Disney Company, which owned Weinstein’s Miramax from 1993 to 2010, knew of the now-imprisoned producer’s predatory behavior and did nothing to protect her.
The suit marked a rare instance of the mogul’s business partners being held as complicit in Weinstein’s behavior. It specifically stated that the “sexual assault on Ormond could have been prevented if Miramax or Disney had properly supervised Weinstein and not retained him while knowing that he was a danger to the women he encountered at work.”

Bill Cosby faces a new sexual assault lawsuit from a New Mexico woman who says the comedian raped her 51 years ago.
On Thursday, Donna Motsinger filed an 11-page complaint against Cosby in Los Angeles Superior Court. In it, the woman alleges that Cosby followed her home in 1972 after the two met at The Trident Sausalito restaurant, where he was a performer and she was a waitress. Afterward, she said Cosby invited her to his comedy show scheduled that evening at the Circle Star Theater in San Carlos, where his fourteenth stand-up album “Inside the Mind of Bill Cosby” was filmed.
“Mr. Cosby picked Ms. Motsinger up in a limousine from her house and drove her to the Circle Star Theater,” the lawsuit states. “Mr. Cosby gave Ms. Motsinger a glass of wine in the limo along the way. At the Circle Star Theater, Mr. Cosby took Ms. Motsinger to the dressing room there.

Antoine Fuqua is being sued by a former collaborator concerning a lack of compensation or credit for his alleged work as a consultant on “The Equalizer 3.” A complaint, which TheWrap has obtained, was filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday and seeks no less than $250,000 in damages.
Paul Lozada says he provided the production with a “treasure trove” of information that boosted the authenticity of the Denzel Washington-starring action franchise. That includes information about European organized crime, weapons and fight choreography. Lozada alleges that Fuqua promised him a position on the third installment. The plaintiff, a former San Francisco police officer, was previously listed as a consultant or advisor on “Tears of the Sun,” “Training Day” and “The Equalizer.”
The complaint alleges that Fuqua reached out to Lozada in May 2022 in relation to a possible television project before pivoting to a conversation about “The Equalizer 3.” Specifically,...

Facing litigation on multiple fronts, the Walt Disney Company has been served with another lawsuit from investors claiming that the company under former CEO Bob Chapek concealed the true costs of producing films and TV shows for its Disney+ streaming service.
In the 63-page lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court of Delaware and obtained by TheWrap, Stourbridge Investments LLC alleges that Chapek, along with his lieutenant Kareem Daniel and former CFO Christine McCarthy, initially aired shows greenlit as Disney+ originals on legacy outlets like Disney Channel and then shifted the marketing and production costs of those shows onto those outlets “as part of a scheme to make Disney+’s financial performance appear more successful than it really was.”

Tsg Entertainment Finance, a key 20th Century Fox partner after the exit of Dune Entertainment, is accusing the studio and its new owner Disney of a “Hollywood accounting” swindle that cheated the film financier out of possibly hundreds of millions of dollars, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
The lawsuit cites an independent audit of three films it financed, including Oscar winner “The Shape of Water,” which found $40 million in unrealized revenues. More audits across all Tsg investments over the past decade could reveal hundreds of millions in underpayments, according to the lawsuit acquired by TheWrap.
Fox, now known as 20th Century Studios, and Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

Two former “Love Island USA” crew members have filed a lawsuit against show producers ITV and NBCUniversal, alleging violations of California’s employment laws and mistreatment of contestants.
The complaint, filed Wednesday in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, relies on the testimony of plaintiffs Jasmine Crestwell and Alex Rinks, both of whom worked as Villa producers during the fourth installment of the reality dating show — the first season after the show had moved from CBS to NBCUniversal-owned streaming service Peacock. The lawsuit alleges that, in an effort to bolster ratings, “Love Island USA” recruited producers behind the hit U.K. version of the series, whose allegedly “racist and abusive practices” negatively impacted the mental health of show contestants.
Per court documents obtained by TheWrap, Rinks was concerned by the “unsafe and unsanitary conditions” of the production and alleged that producers denied contestants sleep, food, water and sanitary bathrooms. Moreover,...

The Federal Trade Commission is appealing a ruling by a federal judge in San Francisco that, if it stands, will allow Microsoft’s proposed purchase of video game giant Activision Blizzard to proceed.
On Tuesday, Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California shot down the FTC’s request for an emergency injunction against the $68.7 billion deal, which is set to close July 18.
In a notice to appeal the decision, filed with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday, the FTC — as it has since its initial lawsuit last December — argues that the deal, which will give Microsoft ownership of franchises like “Call of Duty,” “Diablo” and “World of Warcraft,” would severely curtail competition with its rivals.
Activision Blizzard is currently “platform agnostic,” the FTC says, and as such the biggest console and operating system makers share confidential information with it about their platforms.

On the heels of an August trial date being set for Jonathan Majors’ domestic assault case, the “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” actor’s attorney says “additional compelling evidence” has been delivered to the Manhattan district attorney and once again requested that the charges against him be dropped.
“Within a few weeks of these false allegations, we provided the district attorney with evidence of Mr. Majors’ innocence. Last week, we delivered additional compelling evidence to the district attorney, clearly proving Grace Jabbari’s assault on Jonathan Majors and not the other way around,” attorney Priya Chaudhry said in a statement provided to TheWrap.
“This evidence includes videos of Ms. Jabbari’s frenzied attack on Mr. Majors and his running away from her,” the statement continued. “We also provided photographs illustrating the injuries she inflicted on Mr. Majors and photos of his clothing torn as a direct consequence of Ms. Jabbari’s violent actions.

Armie Hammer will not face charges on allegations of sexual assault in Los Angeles. The county D.A.’s office declined to move forward following an investigation by the LAPD.
The accuser, previously identified as Effie, reported Hammer to the police in February 2021. She alleged that Hammer had been physically abusive during their on-and-off relationship, which spanned four years. She also claimed he raped her in 2017. Hammer has continuously denied her allegations.
Following Effie’s accusation and those of other women, Hammer’s acting career halted overnight. He was replaced by Josh Duhamel in the Jennifer Lopez-starring “Shotgun Wedding” and then replaced by Miles Teller in Paramount+’s “The Godfather” miniseries, “The Offer.” WME dropped him and he has not been onscreen since the long-delayed (due to the Covid pandemic) “Death on the Nile.” That Kenneth Branagh-directed mystery thriller was initially intended for December 2019 and finally opened theatrically...

A judge has granted Paramount Pictures’ motion for dismissal of a lawsuit filed by Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, the stars of a 1968 film adaptation of “Romeo & Juliet” who claim they were coerced by director Franco Zeffirelli into performing a nude scene as teenagers.
In a tentative ruling filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court, Judge Alison Mackenzie ruled that the plaintiffs’ case did not sufficiently prove that the nude scene amounted to “child pornography” and therefore overrode the film’s First Amendment protections as an artistic work. While a new California law lifted the statute of limitations on child sex abuse claims, the judge said that the plaintiffs did not comply with the provisions required for such claims under that law.

Two months after Warner Bros. filed a lawsuit against Paramount over streaming rights to the long-running animated series “South Park,” Paramount Global has responded with a lawsuit of its own.
In a countersuit filed in the New York Supreme Court, Paramount says Warner Bros. owes it more than $52 million in unpaid licensing fees.
In a statement, a spokesperson for HBO Max said, “We believe that Paramount and South Park Digital Studios embarked on a multi-year scheme of unfair trade practices and deception, flagrantly and repeatedly breaching our contract, which clearly gave HBO Max exclusive streaming rights to the existing library and new content from the popular animated comedy South Park.”

Actress and comedian Mo’Nique filed a lawsuit against Paramount and CBS on Wednesday seeking unpaid royalties from her sitcom “The Parkers.”
The breach of contract lawsuit, filed in a Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges CBS and Paramount artificially depressed “The Parkers” profitability to “retain millions that would otherwise be contractually due” to Mo’Nique’s production company.
The suit states, “While the series has proven to be a major financial success for its producers and distributors, the series’ talent have not been permitted to share in the fruits of that success.”
Mo’Nique and her husband and business partner, Sidney Hicks, filed the lawsuit under their production company, Hicks Media. The lawsuit is seeking monetary damages which will be determined at a trial. They are suing both CBS and Paramount and the show’s production company Big Ticket Productions.

The former teen stars of the 1968 Paramount Pictures production of “Romeo and Juliet” have sued the studio, claiming the film’s nude scene amounted to sexual harassment, fraud, sexual abuse and intentional infliction of emotional distress upon the title actors, who were just 15 and 16 years old at the time.
Franco Zeffirelli, the famed Italian director of films and opera, had told the teens that nudity would not be required, and that flesh-colored garments would be used for a bedroom scene, according to the lawsuit. But when the time to shoot the scene arrived in the last days of production, Zeffirelli pressured them to switch to body makeup, then shot their naked bodies without their knowledge, telling them his camera angles prevented exposure.

B movie producer Randall Emmett has been accused of racial discrimination, racist behavior and fostering a hostile workplace environment by his former assistant in a new lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Through his attorney, Suann MacIsaac, Emmett denies all accusations, saying that the lawsuit is the latest attempt of the plaintiff to extort thousands of dollars from her client.
Martin G’Blae, 29, worked for Emmett and his production company Furla Oasis in 2020 and was a production assistant on the film “Midnight in the Switchgrass.” G’Blae was later terminated and in his lawsuit, he alleges that Emmett fired him in part because he is Black.

Bill Cosby and his lawyers were denied a request for a retrial in the sexual assault case tied to an incident from the 1970s at the Playboy Mansion, according to a ruling from a Los Angeles Superior Court judge from Tuesday.
“Cosby has failed to establish he received an unfair trial or that insufficient evidence existed to establish his liability for Plaintiff’s harm,” Judge Craig Karlan said in the ruling. The court had heard arguments at the Santa Monica Courthouse on Sept. 23.
Cosby in June lost a lawsuit brought by plaintiff Judy Huth, who had alleged that Cosby sexually assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion in 1975, when she was 16 years old. Huth claimed that Cosby instructed her to say that she was 19 if anyone asked. The actor and comedian was previously deposed in the case in October 2014.

The debt-riddled Regal Cinemas owner Cineworld Group on Wednesday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S.
In a statement, the troubled London-based cinema chain said it was setting up “a 1.94 billion debtor-in-possession financing facility from existing lenders which will help ensure Cineworld’s operations continue in the ordinary course while Cineworld implements its reorganisation.” The filing the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas covers multiple subsidiaries of Cineworld, which operated 505 theaters in the U.S. alone.
That new financing should help the company to keep the doors open at its movie theaters while it seeks “to implement a de-leveraging transaction that will significantly reduce the Group’s debt, strengthen its balance sheet and provide the financial strength and flexibility to accelerate, and capitalise on, Cineworld’s strategy in the cinema industry,” the company added.
The filing, which has been reviewed by TheWrap, places Cineworld’s assets between 1 billion and 10 billion.

Disney on Wednesday settled a copyright lawsuit from 2017 that alleged that the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies infringed upon the plaintiffs’ copyrighted original spec script.
Writers Arthur Lee Alfred II and E. Ezequiel Martinez Jr. along with their producer Tova Laiter in 2017 claimed in a federal court in Colorado that Disney committed “willful infringement of Plaintiff’s original copyrighted expression of themes, settings, dialogue, characters, plot. mood [and] sequence of events contained in an original spec screenplay entitled ‘Pirates of the Caribbean.’”
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed. Copyright claims against successful Hollywood projects are common, but judgments and settlements are rare.
Disney and an attorney for Alfred and Martinez did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A&e Television Networks is suing Big Fish Entertainment, Half Moon Pictures and ReelzChannel for copyright infringement over their revival of “Live Pd” as “On Patrol: Live.”
In a complaint obtained by TheWrap, A&e states that this case concerns “brazen theft of Aetn’s intellectual property” by Big Fish, Half Moon and Reelz.
“Without any authorization from Aetn, Big Fish (the show’s former producer) created a clone of “Live Pd” featuring the same primary hosts, content, format, segments, and more, and sold that virtually identical show to Reelz, a cable network seeking its first breakout hit, which then aired the show over Aetn’s repeated and vociferous objections,” the complaint continued.

Journalist Rachel Williams has filed a defamation lawsuit against Netflix for the portrayal of her in the streamer’s limited drama series “Inventing Anna.”
“Netflix purposely used my real name, and real aspects of my life, to create a totally false and defamatory characterization of me,” Williams said in a statement sent by her attorney to TheWrap. Williams, a former writer and photo editor for Vanity Fair played by “Scandal” alum Katie Lowes in the series, was a close acquaintance of Russian-born schemer Anna Sorokin (played by Julia Garner).
The lawsuit seeks to show that Netflix “made a deliberate decision for dramatic purposes to show Williams doing or saying things in the Series which portray her as a greedy, snobbish, disloyal, dishonest, cowardly, manipulative and opportunistic person,” according to the documents.

Paul Newman’s daughters have filed a lawsuit against the Newman’s Own Foundation, the charity organization founded in 1982. Susan Kendall Newman of Oregon, and Nell Newman of California say the foundation is refusing to meet its contractual obligations to them as a pretext to cutting ties with them entirely.
The Newman’s Own Foundation raises money for charity through the sales of various foods bearing Newman’s face. According to the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Stamford, Connecticut, Newman secured several conditions when he licensed his image, among them that Newman’s Own would contribute 400,000 dollars per year — a total of 800,000 — to charitable foundations run by each of his daughters.
However, the lawsuit says that shortly after Newman’s death in 2008, the foundation informed them it could at any time cease its contributions to their own charitable organizations, and that this contradicts Newman’s explicit wishes.

Anne Heche has been interred at Hollywood Forever cemetery, the final resting place for scores of Hollywood legends that still serves as a public gathering place and cultural center.
Heche’s remains were cremated, and were placed in a vault near the cemetery’s lake at the Garden of Legends, multiple sources tell TheWrap. Nearby are the final resting places of Mickey Rooney, Burt Reynolds and Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer who was killed when Alec Baldwin accidentally fired a live round on the set of “Rust.”
Hollywood Forever was founded in 1899 and is one of the oldest cemeteries in the Los Angeles area. Stars of old, like Rudolph Valentino and Douglas Fairbanks, are buried near more modern figures, like “Star Trek” Anton Yelchin.
The cemetery is home to a popular summer movie-screening series and other cultural events throughout the year.

The conservator for “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” actress Edie McClurg was granted a restraining order against an alleged abuser on Tuesday, according to documents obtained by TheWrap.
The conservatorship was set up in 2019 and is run by “Life in Pieces” actress Angelique Cabral, whose mother is McClurg’s cousin.
The documents state that Cabral is “highly concerned” about a man named Michael Ramos, who has been living with the 78-year-old character actress and previously attempted to marry her. According to the documents, he sexually assaulted one of McClurg’s caregivers, and that woman fears he might also be assaulting McClurg.

Netflix is suing the songwriting team behind the unauthorized “Bridgerton” musical for infringement, court documents filed Friday in a Washington, DC US District Court revealed.
Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear created the homage to the smash hit Netflix show in 2021 with a series of music videos posted to TikTok. The record streamed more than 45 million times, hit No. 1 on iTunes US pop charts, and won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album in 2022.
Netflix initially supported the idea when it debuted as a free online tribute. The problem between them began on July 26, 2022, when Barlow and Bear staged what Netflix says is a “for-profit” performance of “The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical Album Live in Concert” for a sold-out crowd at the Kennedy Center, with tickets ranging up to 149 each.

Paramount has reached a tentative settlement in its lawsuit with Federal Insurance Company over claims of a breach of a 100 million Covid-19 policy agreement connected to the upcoming film “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning”
According to filings obtained by TheWrap, the framework for the settlement was agreed upon this past Wednesday, just ahead of a mediation deadline. The settlement is expected to be finalized by Aug. 5, and the terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.
In August 2021, Paramount filed a lawsuit claiming that Federal Insurance owed the studio the full 100 million policy after production on the seventh “Mission: Impossible” film paused in February 2020 due to a positive Covid-19 test by an unidentified crew member.
Federal Insurance only agreed to pay 5 million for the production delay, which lasted five months, arguing that there was no evidence that the infected production members “could not continue their duties,” even though they could have...

Eric Weinberg, an Emmy-nominated Hollywood writer and co-executive producer on “Scrubs” and “Californication,” was arrested Thursday on multiple sexual assault charges for rapes dating back to 2012 and possibly much earlier, the LAPD said.
According to an arrest report, Weinberg approached young women in grocery stores, coffee shops and other public places, saying he was a photographer who wanted to set up photo shoots. Once the women came to his Los Feliz residence, he would sexually assault them at some point during the process, police said.
Reps for Weinberg did not immediately respond to requests for comment Thursday. The report identifies him as a “serial assault suspect” and are asking for additional potential victims to come forward.

Q’orianka Kilcher, an actress best known for her work on “Yellowstone” and in the film “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” has been charged with workers compensation fraud, the California Department of Insurance announced on Monday.
Kilcher has pleaed not guilty. Her attorney didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from TheWrap,
The department accuses Kilcher of continuing to work despite collecting more than 90,000 in disability benefits.
“In October 2018 while acting in the movie ‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold,’ Kilcher allegedly injured her neck and right shoulder. Johnny Depp’s “City of Lies” assault case reached a settlement Monday ahead of its scheduled trial start date.
The case, which was brought forth by “City of Lies” location manager Gregg “Rocky” Brooks, was scheduled to begin later this month. In 2018, Brooks filed a lawsuit accusing Depp of assault and battery on the “City of Lies” set in April 2017. Depp has denied the accusations.
According to the suit, Brooks claimed that Depp verbally and physically assaulted him during filming, including punching Brooks twice in the ribs, after Brooks was asked by a producer to extend the hours of a filming permit to accommodate Depp, who wanted to film two friends in an extended scene.

A U.S. Appeals court has upheld a decision that sided with Sacha Baron Cohen in a lawsuit filed by former U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore against the “Borat” star, with Baron Cohen again beating a 95 million defamation lawsuit Moore brought in 2018 after Moore was lampooned in the Showtime series “Who Is America?”
Baron Cohen won the lawsuit back in 2021 after Moore accused Baron Cohen of intentional emotional distress and fraud, claiming he was defamed by the interview. But the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Thursday, in documents obtained by TheWrap, upheld the initial decision by a judge in the Southern District of New York.
The appeals court agreed that it saw “no ambiguity” in Moore’s release of all claims, but also that the “Who Is America?” segment was “clearly comedy and that no reasonable viewer would conclude otherwise.”

Jerry Harris, star of the Netflix docuseries “Cheer” was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for soliciting sex from minors on Wednesday.
His sentencing comes months after Harris pleaded guilty in his child pornography and sexual exploitation case in February 2022. Harris pleaded guilty to two counts, including receipt of child pornography and traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.
After Harris is released from imprisonment, he will be on a “supervised release” for eight years, according to sentencing handed down in a Chicago courtroom by U.S. District Court Judge Manish S. Shah. Harris was also ordered to pay cumulative fines and restitution amounting to over 45,000.

Netflix has settled its pay discrimination lawsuit with Mo’Nique, concluding legal action the actress and comedian filed against the streamer in 2019 over what was alleged to be a “lowball” offer for a one-hour comedy special, according to court documents obtained by TheWrap.

Mo’Nique’s complaint accused Netflix of gender and race discrimination, saying that the company had given her a “low-ball” and “discriminatory” offer of 500,000 as a “talent fee” for a one-hour stand-up special, while other comedians were offered millions of dollars per special.
Netflix, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday, said at the time of the lawsuit’s filing that they intended to fight it in court.

A prominent Cuban exile and anti-Castro activist has sued Netflix for defamation, claiming the 2020 film “The Wasp Network” – marketed heavily as being “based on a true story” – defamed him and his organization by portraying them as “terrorists and criminals” while glorifying communist spies.
The plaintiff, Jose Basulto, was a CIA-trained anti-communist activist, pilot and dissident leader who escaped Cuba to fight the Castro regime. In the early 1990s, he started Brothers to the Rescue, a Florida-based nonprofit that flew seaplanes to assist refugees struggling in open water; the Cuban government called those airspace violations “terrorist acts,” and even shot down two aircraft in 1996.
“The Wasp Network” focuses on “The Cuban Five,” a group of nationalist spies dispatched by the Cuban Ministry to oppose and sabotage anti-regime groups like Brothers to the Rescue.
