History stands as a testament that reboots, spin-offs, or adaptations fail the moment makers decide to give their own twist to the mythos. From The Witcher to Eragon, there have been several series and movies that ended up being ridiculed and sneered by fans and critics. And Amazon’s Rings of Power too can be found among such projects.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Based on the famous J. R. R. Tolkien books, the series provided its own spin on the tale by being set thousands of years before the events in the books. Needless to say, the series was not as well received. And even Lord of the Rings star, the late Bernard Hill had some deeply insulting words to say about the series.

7 Sexiest Characters in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - Main Image
In Amazon's The Rings of Power, the stakes are high, the landscapes are epic, and the characters are smouldering. With so many new faces in the adaptation, it's time to break down who brings the heat (and the hotness) to Middle Earth.
From dwarf queens to ethereal elves, they have unique charisma and allure that defines their sexiness. After all, when it comes to Middle Earth, there's more to love than just the One Ring.
7. Halbrand/Sauron
If evil, why hot? When Galadriel's (Morfydd Clark) close companion Halbrand (played by Charlie Vickers) was revealed to be the Dark Lord Sauron in disguise, fans were left torn. Vickers’ charm and sly smile could make anyone overlook the whole “conqueror of Middle Earth" thing.
But even though he has a pretty face, he's still Sauron, the...

Netflix is one of the top streaming services for a reason. What attracts so many millions of users around the world is the freedom to choose content — Netflix's library may not be endless, but there is never a shortage of viewing options.
In particular, the platform actively offers all kinds of movies and series in the thriller genre, as users enjoy following nail-biting events full of thrills and suspense while waiting for mind-blowing revelations. Some of the most popular projects are the live-action adaptations of thriller king Harlan Coben, including the release earlier this year of Fool Me Once, starring Michelle Keegan and Richard Armitage.
But as the number of thrillers on Netflix has grown over the past few years, it's become increasingly difficult to find a series that doesn't follow typical tropes and clichés and offers something truly original.

In a genre not traditionally given to brevity, James Marsh’s literary biopic “Dance First” at least has that on its side: In 100 minutes, it races through the key events and alliances in the life of Irish author and dramatist Samuel Beckett, even finding time for some metaphysical musings alongside the cradle-to-grave checklist. But Beckett’s characteristic terseness — or radical “lessness,” to borrow a title from one of his stories — isn’t a feature of this creditable but ponderous film, which ultimately achieves its efficient runtime by skirting any meaningful engagement with Beckett’s work and literary legacy. What’s left is an anatomy of his unhappiness via a procession of stymied or soured relationships: shot with grace, acted with intelligence, but short on Beckettian daring or wit.
It’s another biopic from Marsh, following 2014’s popular “The Theory of Everything” and 2017’s less-seen “The Mercy,” that resists bringing his...

“There’s a joy I think, to the dwarves, that I get from the source material,” explains Owain Arthur. The actor played the dwarven Prince Durin IV on Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” He dug through the many texts from J.R.R. Tolkien in order to discover as much as he could about the race of stout mine-dwellers, and felt determined to find where the joy existed in Durin. When Arthur arrived on set in New Zealand, he soon unearthed that joy not just in his own character study, but in the chemistry with his costars. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
As luck would have it, the dwarf kingdom of Moria, located deep within the Misty Mountains, provided a perfect way for the actor to relate to dwarf culture. “There’s a working class element to them that I can connect to,” reveals Arthur.

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will sparkle much more when it returns. Morfydd Clark revealed Galadriel will be among the characters to receive a special piece of jewelry in Season 2.
“She’s about to have a life-changing thing happen to her. She’s about to become acquainted with Nenya, her ring. It’s really exciting to see how the magic creeps in,” Clark said at the show’s FYC event in Hollywood on Sunday speaking alongside her castmates who are all on break from shooting in the UK.
The three elven rings were forged in the Season 1 finale of the fantasy series, set a thousand years before the events in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord Of the Rings and The Hobbit, by Celebrimbor with the help of Sauron (as Halbrand).

At a Sunday, May 7 Rings of Power FYC event in Los Angeles, Clark confirmed that Galadriel will wear one of the magic bands in The Rings of Power Season 2 and that more rings of power will be forged in the new episodes. "One Ring to rule them all ..."
Fans aren't likely to forget the haunting words narrated by Cate Blanchett's elf queen Galadriel which open 2001's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," adapted from author J.R.R. Tolkien's original text. In short order, director Peter Jackson had summed up much of the backstory that newcomers would need to hit the ground running and understand the plight of Middle-earth under the threat of the Dark Lord Sauron's return. But as much as the trilogy relied upon the fate of the One Ring, it mostly left all those other Rings of Power strictly on the sidelines.
That's where Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" series came in, filling in the gaps from thousands of years earlier in the canon to tell the sprawling tale of how the heroes of Middle-earth dealt with Sauron the last time he appeared.

Given that Prime Video’s epic fantasy series The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power was created in the wake of Game Of Thrones exploding the small-screen swords-and-sorcery-saga scene, it was only natural that there’d be some cast crossover. After establishing Robert Aramayo (briefly a young Ned Stark in the later seasons of Thrones) in the first season, Season 2 is now adding Mance Rayder himself, Ciarán Hinds, is one of three fresh cast additions for the next run of Rings Of Power, currently shooting in the UK.
Also entering the cast is Rory Kinnear_.
Who the three fresh faces are playing is being kept under wraps – but with the new episodes shooting now, hopefully it won’t be too long a wait until we’re taken back to Middle-earth for the next chapter in the Second Age story. The new season continues Jd Payne.

In recent weeks Amazon has released a flurry of casting news for “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” season two. We have names of 15 actors who will join the Middle Earth cast: Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen ‘Zates’ Atour, Ben Daniels, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle, Nicholas Woodeson, Sam Hazeldine, Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Stuart Bowman, Gavi Singh Chera, William Chubb, Kevin Eldon, Will Keen, Selina Lo, and Calam Lynch. But details about their roles are scarce.
The only specific character information that accompanied the casting updates was the shocking news that Hazeldine (“Peaky Blinders”) will be taking over the role of orc-daddy Adar from Joseph Mawle. With showrunner Patrick McKay previously teasing elder elf (and ring bearer) Cirdan the Shipwright arriving next season, that still leaves 13 new roles shrouded in mystery.

With showrunner Patrick McKay previously teasing elder elf (and ring bearer) Cirdan the Shipwright arriving next season, that still leaves 13 new roles shrouded in mystery.

Season 1 of the generally well-received "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" series came to an epic and satisfying end exactly two months ago, but fans of the sprawling and large-scale production knew that they would have to settle in for quite a long wait before seeing where the adventure took all our favorite heroes and villains next. We know that all the surviving cast of characters, from Morfyyd Clark's Galadriel to Robert Aramayo's Elrond to Markella Kavenagh's Nori to Charlie Vickers' Sauron, will be back for another round (although with one notable recasting). Ditto for a batch of new actors who will be joining the fray, setting up an even bigger storyline to come in season 2. But what about the creative team behind the camera?

Deep in the caverns of Khazad-dûm, there is panic. A mine has collapsed, and dwarves are trapped. But Princess Disa (Sophia Nomvete) can save them, lifting up her voice in an impassioned song, urging the mountains to free her people. “Disa’s gift is to resonate, and the rocks listen. She speaks to the mountains,” says Nomvete, who plays the dwarf princess.
It’s a powerful scene in episode 4 of Amazon Prime Video’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” as her voice saves the lives of the miners, and, as a character created for the series, she establishes herself as a force within the story.
Director Wayne Yip told her that this moment was to be pivotal.

This post contains spoilers for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," a high fantasy series loosely inspired by the extended prequel writings of J.R.R. Tolkien, dares to ask the big questions: What was Isildur (Maxim Baldry) like during his angsty, teen years? Did Elrond (Robert Aramayo) ever rock a side part? What was Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) like during her angsty (immortal) teen years? In fairness, there are a lot of characters -- some of their core conflicts were bound to get repetitive. Chief among these mysteries, however, was that of a hidden identity, one so curious that its very revelation could spell great change for the series. No, we're not talking about The Stranger (Daniel Weyman), or Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin) -- insert an ironically repetitious joke about narrative repetition here -- but Halbrand (Charlie Vickers).

Major spoilers ahead for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is a sweeping epic fantasy story set thousands of years before the Peter Jackson film trilogies for "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit." Though we're watching major events that will change an entire world, the heart of the show is its friendships. One of the loveliest belongs to Prince Durin IV of the Dwarves (Owain Arthur) and Elrond of the Elves (Robert Aramayo). These two have been friends for many, many years, but as Elves live far longer than most, Elrond hadn't been back to see Durin for 20 years, something that hurts him deeply. The two make up, though, and with the sharing of the mithril that Durin's wife Disa (Sophia Nomvete) discovered, they change the course of the future.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has completed its first season, and production on season 2 is currently underway. In the Prime Video series, we meet the Harfoots, the precursors to the Hobbits from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The Harfoots are the heart and soul of the show and of Middle-earth. Unlike the Hobbits we meet thousands of years later in the Third Age, the Harfoots are travelers who are constantly on the move. Despite this, they still stick with their small communities.
One Harfoot, however — Nori Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh) — has an adventurous spirit, much like her future counterpart Frodo Baggins. In season 1, she and her friend Poppy (Megan Richards) come upon a mysterious Stranger (Daniel Weyman) who has shot to the earth in what appears to be a comet. Nori strikes up a relationship with the Stranger, and by the end of the season, the two...

Amazon took viewers across the far reaches of Middle Earth in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” With season one concluded, viewers now must endure a long wait until the next chapter arrives. To help ease the burden, let’s revisit the five best moments from the first season of the hit series.
The Sauron reveal
The most impressive part of this reveal is that I, along with many fans, correctly guessed Sauron’s secret identity several episodes before it was unveiled, yet the moment still floored me. We can thank an incredible performance from Charlie Vickers and a well written vision sequence for giving this moment the weight and payoff it deserved. Vickers slowly layers in more charm and swagger into his performance of Halbrand until Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) catches wise of his act. Then he plunges the elf into a trippy, shifting vision in which...

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” boasts an immense ensemble cast worthy of an epic Middle Earth tale. While it’s thrilling to see so many expert actors showcase their talents, huge ensembles can have trouble when it comes to awards races. There can be so much internal competition that cast members end up splitting the vote and the cast winds up with nothing. Just look at Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy: despite massive success at the Oscars, the trilogy only managed a single acting nomination for Ian McKellan’s Gandalf.
So with winter awards ceremonies looming and season one of Amazon’s fantasy series now concluded (spoilers ahead!), here is a look at the six performers who have the best shot at scoring nominations.

There's been a longstanding debate, before even the first episode of Amazon's "The Lord of the Rings" prequel series aired: Is "The Rings of Power" Tolkien enough? J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" is a masterstroke of high fantasy writing, a cornerstone of the genre, a paragon of world-building, and one of the most wildly influential series of all time. Most of, if not all, contemporary fantasy series owe a great deal to Tolkien, whose influence can be seen in everything from "Game of Thrones," to Hayao Miyazaki films, to "Harry Potter." His contribution to literature and pop culture is undeniable. But, depending on who you ask, the definition of what makes something Tolkien-esque changes.
Is it Tolkien's ardent environmentalism? His real-world experiences in war which left him processing his trauma through a quietly cynical fantasy saga? His academic approach to world-building? And if so, why did "The...

You can now fully immerse yourself in Middle-earth now that every “Rings of Power” episode is available to stream on Amazon Prime. The hotly anticipated “Lord of the Rings” series concluded on Friday with an action-packed finale episode — without giving away spoilers, we’re still thinking about that raft scene and that trippy sequence in Galadriel’s mind.
The fantasy series is one of Amazon Studios’ most ambitious projects to date. Not only is it reported to be the most expensive television series ever made (Amazon apparently shelled out close to 715 million for all eight episodes), but the show’s first trailer racked up an unmatched 257 million views when it first debuted at this year’s Super Bowl, more than any Super Bowl trailer in history.
If you didn’t have a chance to binge the first season yet, all the episodes are still available to stream at your leisure.

Evidently, you can't have a modern streaming service without an epic fantasy television show. HBO Max has "Game of Thrones" and its spinoff, "House of the Dragon," Netflix has "The Witcher," and now Amazon has "The Rings of Power." Amazon spent an astounding 465 million on season 1 of "The Rings of Power" alone. Fortunately, you can tell that a large portion of that money went where it counts the most.
Though "The Rings of Power" is nowhere near the caliber of Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, there are moments that stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the films. Alas, there are just as many that feel like bad fan-fiction. "The Rings of Power" may be pretty, but the writing is frequently just plain bad. That's a true pity, as much of the rest of the show — the cast, the score, the CGI — is quite good, with gorgeous cinematography and an...

Spoilers below for the finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
Chemistry's a funny thing. It's not something you can fake, much less force, and it's equally hard to quantify. All that aside, I think we all know chemistry when we see it — and it's been a long, long time since we've seen it used to its full potential.
We live in bleak times, people. The world is, in a lot of ways, crumbling before our very eyes — but on an infinitely more superficial level, actors just don't have the chemistry they used to. There are, of course, exceptions: actors like Oscar Isaac and Daniel Kaluuya, for example, who generate enough electricity on their own to power a small town. But the characters they play aren't afforded many chances to explore that electricity outside of the bedroom, if at all. Call me a prude, but one...

Warning: major spoilers below for the season finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
With the first season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" in the bag, fans have finally learned which character was Sauron in disguise all this time. While some experienced shock and betrayal at the news that Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) is actually the Dark Lord himself, it can't be anything compared to the surprise the cast must have felt. The casting process for "The Rings of Power" was uncharacteristically secretive: none of the actors auditioned knowing who they'd eventually be playing. That might seem unorthodox, but for a show that hinges on the origins of multiple well-known characters, it was a matter of necessity.
Like the rest of the cast, Vickers had very little clue about who he was auditioning for. His first auditions, the actor later discovered, were for the role of Elrond,...

That villain is of course Sauron, and the just released Season 1 finale unveiled would-be blacksmith and King of the Southlands Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) to be the deposed Dark Lord himself.

Of all the possible outcomes facing Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” the one I didn’t see coming is that I’d end up feeling a need to defend it. Basically, everything about the show’s production (i.e. a behemoth corporation spending unfathomable amounts of money on a blatant IP grab for a streaming service on the edge of relevance) represents everything I’ve come to loathe about the entertainment industry. The age of TV reboots seems almost quaint now, in this era of endless prequels and sequels to spinoffs of franchises. As the most expensive television series of all time (all! time!), “The Rings of Power” should by all rights be Enemy No. 1.

After spending several weeks in the Second Age of Middle-earth, it’s time for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 to come to an end. The Amazon Prime Video series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings novels and their appendices has once again introduced an evil force to Middle-earth that challenges the worlds of Men, Elves, Dwarves, and even Harfoots.
