Public broadcaster Kcet is once again the leader in Los Angeles Area Emmys nominations, landing 22 this year (down slightly from last year’s 24), thanks to expecially to the locally produced series “Artbound” and its “10 Days in Watts.” Cable news outlet Spectrum News 1 was in second, with 17 — up from 14 last year.
Meanwhile, Kabc-tv — aka ABC7 — saw a nice surge to 14 noms, up from 7 last year and good enough to top the commercial broadcast outlets. Nominees included the late Sam Rubin, who was nominated in the entertainment news story for his coverage of the SAG-AFTRA strike on Ktla.
As usual, all stations that enter are immediately nominated in the daily morning newscast (4 a.m. to 11 a.m.), daily daytime newscast (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.), and daily evening newscast (7 p.m. to 12 a.m.) categories.
Last year, Telemundo outlet Kvea swept the newscast categories, winning the Emmys for evening (7 p.m.

Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Zegler, and Joe Manganiello were among the celebs on the red carpet at the 2023 CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute event on Sunday (December 10) at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
The event, hosted by Anderson Cooper and Laura Coates, aired live on CNN.
Each Top 10 CNN Hero was awarded $10,000 and the CNN Hero of the Year received an additional $100,000 to continue their life-changing work. Dr. Kwane Stewart, who cares for the pets of those experiencing homelessness, is CNN’s Hero of the Year.

For all her work on stage and screen, Kristen Bell might best be known as the woman who cried over a sloth. Back in 2012, the actor went viral with a video shot by her husband, Dax Shepard isn’t even seen interacting with the sloth – in the video it’s just the anticipation of knowing it’s there causes her to practically hyperventilate with euphoria.
It was a moment Wallis Annenberg PetSpace’s Catie Voglio could relate to all too well. “I first saw the video of Kristin Bell’s reaction to the sloth, and I just knew that feeling of loving something so much, it almost hurts you,” she says.
So, when Voglio was working with a podcast...
