The cases will keep coming during the 2024-25 season. CBS has renewed the venerable 48 Hours television program for a 37th year.
A documentary and newsmagazine series, the 48 Hours TV show premiered in 1988 and features correspondents telling engaging, compelling stories that often reveal new information, feature first-time interviews and tap into the nation’s fascination with murder mysteries. The series’ segments have shed new light on cases long overlooked by law enforcement and the public and have resulted in cold cases being reopened and solved. The team’s focus on questionable and wrongful convictions has led to eight people being released from prison. Correspondents include Erin Moriarty, Peter Van Sant, Natalie Morales, Tracy Smith, Jim Axelrod, Michelle Miller, Jericka Duncan, David Begnaud, and Jonathan Vigliotti. Read More…...

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry said his next career may be in politics.
Curry appeared on CBS Mornings to promote his second children’s book, I Am Extraordinary, which aims to inspire kids to embrace their uniqueness. CBS News’ Jericka Duncan asked the basketball player if he would ever consider running for president following his time in the athletic world.
“Maybe, I have an interest in leveraging every part of my influence for good in the way I can,” Curry said. “So if that’s the way to do it, then — I’m not going to say the presidency but if politics is a way that you can create meaningful change or if there’s another way outside of politics.”
A stint in politics would not be too surprising for Curry. He and his wife, Ayesha Curry, are extremely involved in the Oakland community, even after the Warriors moved to San Francisco.

Nearly eight years after #OscarsSoWhite sparked discontent when the awards ceremony nominated no people of color in its 2015 acting categories, the hashtag creator April Reign reflected on her “organic” decision to speak up, saying it was not initially an “intentional” effort to kickstart a global movement.
“I’m listening to the nominations and it just struck me that the nominations, person after person, category after category, there were no people of color nominated,” Reign told CBS Reports in an exclusive clip of the upcoming Black Twitter documentary shared with TheWrap. “So I picked up my cell phone … and I said “#OscarsSoWhite they asked to touch my hair.'”
“For this particular hashtag, I thought there was a larger conversation that could be had about the lack of equity and inclusion, not just with respect to the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences, but throughout the entertainment industry,” Reign continued.

Brittany Commisso, who filed a criminal complaint last week against Andrew Cuomo, went public with CBS This Morning for an interview in which she detailed her allegations that the New York governor groped her.
Commisso was identified in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ report on Cuomo as “executive assistant #1.” She was one of 11 accusers who claim that Cuomo sexually harassed them, leading to calls for the governor’s resignation or impeachment.
In an interview with Jericka Duncan, Commisso described two separate incidents. One occurred on Dec. 31, 2019, when she was helping the governor with his State of the State address at the governor’s mansion in Albany. She said that at the end of their work, he asked if she wanted a selfie, and, as she held the camera, he rubbed her butt. She spoke to CBS News’ Jericka Duncan about the Ag report, which listed her anonymously as “Executive Assistant #1”: “I believe that my story appears first due to the nature of the inappropriate conduct that the governor did to me. I believe that he groped me. He touched me not only once, but twice, and I don’t think that that had happened to any of the other women — the touching — and I believe that because of what had happened to me, that that was the most inappropriate of the actions that he had done.”

Bill Cosby built an entertainment empire by playing a helpful, wholesome, fatherly figure in everything from his landmark “Cosby Show” on NBC to the animated “Fat Albert” series to memorable commercials for Jell-o Pudding Pops.
But industry insiders say there is little chance that the disgraced 83-year-old entertainer may be able to chart a comeback, now that he has won release on a technicality from a prison term after being convicted in 2018 on three counts of aggravated assault against former Temple University employee Andrea Constand. That trial came amid a cascade of allegations that Cosby committed sexual assaults on more than 60 women.
“There’s no ‘Cosby’ reunion. There will be no Vegas residency and there will be no new Jell-o endorsement for Mr. Cosby,” said Howard Bragman, longtime PR strategist and crisis manager. “He was not found innocent. He was released on a technicality. I would say the world still...

Bill Cosby Speaks Out Following Overturned Conviction: ‘I Have Never Changed My Stance Nor My Story’
Bill Cosby has taken to social media to make his first statement after being released from prison. In a stunning reversal on Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned Cosby’s sexual assault conviction, and he was allowed to walk free just hours later.
“I have never changed my stance nor my story. I have always maintained my innocence,” Cosby wrote on Twitter, alongside a photo of himself with his fist raised. “Thank you to all my fans, supporters and friends who stood by me through this ordeal. Special thanks to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law.”

Update, 3:30 Pm Pt: Bill Cosby had nothing to say in front of the cameras just over an hour ago today after his rape conviction and prison sentence was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. However, the now freed and much-accused actor, or someone in his camp, just took to social media to speak out.
In a strident and distinctly heavy handed tweet, the man one praised as “America’s Dad” took a self praising digital victory lap.

National correspondents Jericka Duncan and Adriana Diaz have been named new anchors of CBS Weekend News.
Duncan will anchor on Saturdays from Chicago, and Duncan will have Sunday duties from New York. Duncan will anchor this Sunday and Diaz will helm on Dec. 12. They will assume their permanent positions in January.
CBS News president Susan Zirinsky said that Duncan and Diaz “are outstanding journalists with extensive reporting experience. Adriana’s reporting has spanned China, North Korea and Latin America to today’s coverage of Covid-19’s devastating impact on the nation. Jericka has distinguished herself in reporting the toughest, highest-profile stories that have hit the courts and gripped the country including the trials of Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby and Breonna Taylor.”
The Covid-19 pandemic also has forced the news division to broadcast the newscast from across the country with various anchors because of the limitations on the CBS Broadcast Center in New York.

News Team: Assemble.
CBS News plans to hurl a new anchor squad into TV’s morning-news wars Monday when a different trio – Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil – takes the helm at “CBS This Morning.” The A.M. effort that has won critical plaudits by focusing on harder news topics, like international affairs and business, and has given CBS new momentum in a daypart dominated by ABC’s “Good Morning America” and NBC’s “Today” that it struggled in the past to conquer. But the show has ceded ground in recent months.
That doesn’t mean CBS is going to abandon the program’s newsier premise, says Diana Miller, its new executive producer. Viewers still won’t be seeing an abundance of cooking segments or summer concert series. “We are certainly not going to be doing less news,” she says. “In this day and age, there’s no shortage of it.

In his first interview since being arrested on multiple extortion and fraud charges, Michael Avenatti told CBS News he is “scared” and “concerned” about facing a possible long prison term. Watch an excerpt above.
“Of course I’m nervous,” he told correspondent Jericka Duncan in a sit-down that will air Wednesday on CBS This Morning. “I am nervous. I’m concerned. I’m scared. I feel terrible for my family. I feel bad for my friends. Most people are sticking by me. They know me, they know what I’m all about. So I’ve been very fortunate in that regard.”
Avenatti, who gained notoriety for representing Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against President Donald Trump, is more subdued in the clip that we’re used to seeing. That’s not surprising given that he faces potentially decades in prison after being arrested Monday on wire and bank fraud charges...

Rhodes tweeted, CBS News confirmed – during NBC’s Golden Globe Awards broadcast.
“It’s been eight incredible years since I joined @CBS,” Rhodes tweeted to say he is stepping down. “I am pleased to announce that I’ll soon be handing the reins @CBSNews to Susan Zirinsky, our Senior Executive producer.
“Susan Zirinsky to Become President and Senior Executive Producer of CBS News,” CBS announced, far less dramatically.
“After March 1 I’ll be a Senior Advisor to @CBS CEO and to @CBSNews,” Rhodes said.
Actually, he’ll be senior advisor to acting CBS CEO Joe Ianniello for the time being, what with CEO Les Moonves having been pushed out over allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment.

In 2018, a TV actor gender pay parity still was being debated, a TV journalist thought blackface could be defended on grounds of “Halloween,” and a TV ad campaign featuring a man known for kneeling to protest deaths of unarmed U.S. citizens triggered a national outbreak of gym sock logo cutting. Also, a network fired its hit sitcom star for behaving like the president, and the CEO of CBS learned what “consensual” most certainly does not mean.

CBS’ acting CEO Joe Ianniello told company staffers on Monday that he is committed to creating “a safe, equitable and inclusive place to work, where every employee is treated with dignity and respect.”
The internal memo comes a week after the resignation of Les Moonves following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, and Ianniello stepping in as his interim replacement.
“As some of you have already seen, I have begun visiting with each of our business units,” Ianniello wrote in the memo, which was obtained by TheWrap. “Over these first few weeks in my new role, I will continue to spend time talking, and more importantly listening, to as many of you as possible. At the heart of these visits is a chance to learn from frank discussions about our culture.”
This is the second time in as many weeks that Ianniello has put out a memo to CBS staffers regarding the company’s culture.

Julie Chen stayed away from The Talk today, and maybe just as well: The subject of harassment and firings at CBS was front and center on the show today.
Discussing yesterday’s firing of 60 Minutes exec producer Jeff Fager, the co-hosts did not mention Chen’s husband, former CBS CEO Les Moonves, by name, but generally applauded the move to “clean house” at the network, as the show’s Sharon Osbourne put it.
“I just think it’s so refreshing that this old regime of the boys club, guys taking care of guys…”, Osbourne said, “I just think it’s great to clean house.”
Moonves’ departure from CBS earlier this month came amid multiple accusations of sexual harassment and abuse. Chen has not taken her seat on The Talk since the show returned on Monday, saying she was taking time off to spend with her family.

CBS News correspondent Jericka Duncan said she saw the text that just-ousted “60 Minutes” executive producer Jeff Fager sent her over the network’s coverage of the sexual harassment accusations against him as a “threat.”
“I did… and it’s even hard to say that today,” she said on “CBS This Morning” Thursday. “Because yes, we do receive harsh language all the time but this is someone who held an enormous amount of power here, who I respected, and I was shocked.”

“Big trees are falling” at CBS, said CBS This Morning‘s Gayle King today, as she and co-hosts Norah O’Donnell and John Dickerson offered their “100%” support for guest Jericka Duncan, the CBS News correspondent who received a warning from now-ex 60 Minutes exec producer Jeff Fager Sunday night.

CBS News fired the longtime 60 Minutes producer yesterday, with Fager himself saying that his termination was due to “a text message to one of our own CBS reporters demanding that she be fair in covering the story.” Though he conceded that his “language was harsh,” he insisted the text was not grounds for firing.

R Kelly Accuser Details Sex Abuse in First Interview: ‘I Was Just Waiting for It to Be Over’ (Video)
A day after filing a lawsuit claiming that R. Kelly “willfully, deliberately and maliciously” infected her with herpes and “mentally, physically and verbally” abused her when she was 19, Faith Rodgers sat down with “CBS This Morning” to detail her experience with the singer.
In the interview that aired Tuesday, Rodgers said she was in a relationship with Kelly for close to a year, during which he asked her to call him “daddy,” said he wanted to teach her to have sex like a “mature woman,” and introduced her to one of five women he claimed to be “raising.”
She described to CBS News correspondent Jericka Duncan an incident where she says Kelly flew her to New York to attend one of his shows and then visited her hotel room, where she “submitted” to having sex with him.
